Another band like PT is called The Pineapple Thief. Gavin Harrison is currently their drummer. I would say the first song you should listen to is White Mist. There are surprisingly many bands "like" PT but all very unique too. That is what makes prog. Every band sounds like it's own blend of genres.

They aren't separate songs because it all follows the same theme. You first start chill and normal, then you get agitated, and once you're finally anesthetized (the end section of the song) is when everything becomes soothing and you're finally relaxed.

With all due respect, NO one can fill in for Neil Peart. Yes, there are many fantastic drummers but RUSH was such a unique phenomenon and each member fed off the other in such a deep, intimate fashion that it would be counter-productive to try and even approach filling that void, even if it's just a "cover band" tour. Neil was in the band 40 years and he was the "new guy" and, being the consummate addition to RUSH with Geddy and Alex's musical contributions, they had a truly unique of the unique niche while they were out there and you will never see it's like again. About the only thing I would like to see is a "one-time" concert with different drummers for a couple songs apiece.........actually that would be awesome and a total nod of respect!

    • @paulnajar4749

Soen is ex-Opeth drummer Martin Lopez, and the band sounds slightly Tool-meets-Opeth...maybe more 'listener friendly' (i.e. shorter more concise songs).

Regarding Gavin as a “fill-in” for the great Neil Peart…. I am sure it’s possible, but one thing about Gavin, he was a jazz musician and always improvises on all PT songs. Nothing over-the-top, but always very tasteful and spontaneous. Neil (and the rest of the band) almost always played all their songs in concert note for note, which is what the fans always liked.

Gavin is regarded as one of if not the best drummer by his peers, currently. He’s won major accolades, awards and definitely the best modern day drummers, he’s quite a unique drummer in his own right, he has he own sound, that makes him a great drummer, don’t think suggesting that he would make a fill in drummer for where Neil left off sits well tbh.
