    I see many people recommending Anesthetize live in Tilburg next, so no need to say it again, but after that I would recommend the songs The Start of Something Beautiful(studio version), Sleep Together(live in Tilburg), and Collapse the Light Into the Earth(studio version). Now, most of Porcupine Tree’s music was written by the singer, Steven Wilson. And he disbanded Porcupine Tree about 10 years ago to pursue a solo career. His solo stuff is also fantastic. from that i recommend Ancestral(live at the Royal Albert Hall), Deform to Form a Star(studio version), and Detonation( live from Home invasion dvd). Welcome to the fantastic rabbit hole.

      @@hellesndergaardpetersen8266 the new album has started to grow on me the last couple of days but I totally get why others may not be fans, but the deluxe edition bonus disc has some good tracks I think you might like if you enjoy his older stuff, look up Wave the White Flag off of it. it has some arriving somewhere but not here vibes. and give the rest of it a shot too, some of the remixes from the bonus disc really improve upon the original work from the album.

    14:16 holy shit man we are the same person! I recently got more into tool with the release of their stuff on streaming platforms, they became my all time favorite band but then PT just snuck up on me and I had the same experience listening to this song the first time, it's awesome you were able to take in that feeling and reflect on it and appreciate it because it truly is like a before/after moment in your life, when it comes to discovering your favorite band or your favorite song from a great band. Thanks for allowing me to watch someone else experience this fuckin masterpiece and enjoy it much like I did! Great reaction and greater taste in music :)

    • @CruxalYT
      @CruxalYT Před 3 lety

      Also I know it's been half a year since you uploaded this so you very well might know all of PT's work by now, but just as someone who also got into them pretty much instantly off this song I want to recommend the order of the albums you should try, start with In Absentia if you like the harder section of this and don't mind them getting heavy, great odd time signature work and Gavin(their drummer)'s best work imo. Next is Deadwing since its also heavy as hell in parts and flows nicely, and third I'd try out Fear of a blank planet - this one is amazing and I saw your anesthetize reaction so I know you are aware of that masterpiece already :) Really all of their work is amazing but I find the newer era resonates with me the most as a person who discovered them because of Opeth.

    Around the 9:00 in this video, I think what you guys are talking about is that the intro is done in half-time, and then once it kicks it, it goes to normal time, which gives it the nice effect of "moving along" as per the theme of the song. And yeah, it is really great composing for this song.

They bring a whole new dimension to a sound that's clearly reminiscent of Tool without being merely a copycat. I think you'll dig it. (It doesn't sound like Tool all the way through the song, but it in certain parts of the song, it sounds like Tool on steroids.) This song and Start of Something Beautiful are masterpieces on this album IMO. Lazarus is a different more melodic song, but worth a listen for sure. The whole Deadwing album may be my favorite from them. But they have so many great songs, including their b-sides. Even the early Porcupine Tree, a little different sounding is good to great. Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun are probably my favorites from their early era. More Floyd vibes, wheras Deadwing, In Absentia, Fear of a Blank Planet are probably their most metal albums. Live versions in general are better than their studio albums.
