The two longtime friends discuss his cancer diagnosis, his legacy within the competitive judging and Commander communities, and what being part of those communities meant to him for nearly 30 years.

Already had massive respect for BDM, but seeing him keep it together for this interview in the face of his close friend's time running out truly needs to be recognized. Sheldon saying he wished he had played a Pro Tour in front of the Pro Tour Historian himself broke me. An incredible piece on humanity. Rest In Power, Godfather.

One of, if not my most, favorite EDH game I've played was with Sheldon and Gavin this year at SCGcon, I'm thankful to have been able to talk and play with Sheldon. He will be missed

It was kismet that I should have become so friendly with Sheldon during his final months. I learned Magic using the strixhaven precon, and that journey has completely changed my life. I hope to make Sheldon proud through my own personal growth and work. I can only hope to begin to embody the person he admired. RIP you’re missed now and will be forever.
Everytime you play a game of edh you gotta thank sheldon. For turn one wins and late game pop offs. The format that turned countless hours into memories of a game i love. Sheldon you are never dead your legacy lives on in each player who brings a deck and gets a pod going. #FUCKCANCER #RIP ❤❤

I got take Sheldon around my home town with my wife this past spring. He was a great friend and true to himself through and through.
RIp Sheldon! I got into magic a couple years ago and only now have started to play commander and learn of all the wonderful people that have been involved making commander what it is now. Thank you for your passion and I'm thinking of your family and those close around you.

He's basically why the game is where it is today. I love that Wizards posted this so younger players who might not have known as much about him could get an idea of who he was and how much he loved this game.

Everyone; share your favorite commander mirrorweave moments as tribute for this man.
I'll start; Was in a four player game with a jund reanimator deck at the table, a.k.a player one. Player one, have fillled his graveyard with some juicy creatures casted living end which would have given him a game winning position. Player 2 steps up to counter by casting Duelcaster Mage, copying living end and would essentially switch the board state back to how it was after ETB triggers occur. highfive player 2,. sweet play!
Well, Living end resolves and the creatures on the board switch with the creatures in the graveyards. Among one of the creatures in player 1's graveyard was a Duelcaster Mage of his own, and he used his ETB to target the Copy of Living end still on the stack to once again go off.
it then became apparent that we had a loop of Grave and board switching non-stop, we read Duelcaster Mage and noted that it was not a "may" or "up to one" ability, it HAD to target a spell and the only spell was copy of Living end.
We forced a draw because a scenario was created where the game was stuck in an infinite loop and could not advance, and we all had a good laugh.

I didn't know who Sheldon was until he passed away and saw a few tribute posts about him. Wizards need to do a better job of putting the spotlight on the people who help to grow the game while they're still around - a documentary series about players, judges, ex- pro players and game developers would be much appreciated.

I don't understand the Mirrorweave scenario. Mirrorweave changes existing permanents so the trigger on the stack to make plants would just be plants. But he said the plants were changed to Suture Priest. Maybe he meant all the other creatures were changed to Suture Priest causing a deadly plant etb. Regardless sounds like a good laugh.

What was this 'Broken deck' that Sheldon used a decklist trick on? I'm not understanding based on the context clues.
People had been cheating by bringing already built sealed pools to a limited event, so Sheldon changed the deck registration form to catch them in the act
