5 Accessories/Attachments for your Tractor from Harbor Freight

- I saw the Haul Master Top Link in a Phoenix Harbor Freight store and I wondered what other parts or accessories would be available for a tractor from Harbor Freight so I began looking and unfortunately didn't find to many options beyond the 3 point quick hitch, and the PTO generator. I remembered the lynch pins I bought a few years ago and included those because they are tractor related and also wanted to mention the towable backhoe from Harbor Freight that could be a good back hoe options for those who cannot put an actual backhoe attachment on their tractor like me with my Ford 8n.

I enjoy your Ford Tractor videos. I have a 1941 Ford 9N and I also live in Arizona. I just subscribed to your channel.
Hey thanks for the subscription!
I own the trencher and it has always worked great! Waaay more power than what I expected and I’ve taken it “off-road” quite a bit and never had a problem,……except for our clay ground sticking in the bucket!
Ya and that clay ground sticking is not unique to the HF trencher haha. Thanks for sharing!

Any tips to keep it from sticking??? I was using the water hose to spray the bucket after each scoop but I’d get a solid scoop and it would still stick! I’d hate to use motor oil or something like that on my back yard!
Your ford 8n is a thirty engine horsepower tractor. Equipment like this is normally rated for engine hp instead of PTO HP.
There are older backhoe attachments that will work with an N series tractor powered off the pto.
Nice choices, would like to know more about the generator.
You need 2 HP for each kilowatt that you use. So with the 8N, you would be limited to about 10 KW of power draw to be safe.
Great video. Keep up the good work. 💪🏼💪🏼👊🏼
Thanks for the comment!
Enjoyable video, as always.
I get why you don't want your channel to become a "Harbor Freight" channel, but many of us enjoy videos that give us ideas of what's available, and what's good vs what's not. (With that in mind, a short mention of the actual ratings might be helpful in the future. You mentioned them in passing, but a little more specificity there wouldn't hurt, IMO.) Anyway, this is really good content for tractor and tool guys like me.
Now the items...
1. Top link: again, a 4.7 rating (currently) is pretty impressive, but I had to look that up to find it. If I were in the market for one, I'd definitely try this one, based on that rating, but now that I've installed my hydraulic top link (purchased from TSC, BTW), I hope I NEVER have to go back!
2. Quick hitch: I bought one (this one!) years ago, and have been very pleased. There are some implements that don't work with it, but it appears to me that those wouldn't work with ANY QH (not even the ones that cost about 3 times more -- the green ones made by that company whose name starts with J and D -- lol!). SOME folks on the JD tractor forums LOVE to trash these (as they do ANYTHING Harbor Freight!), but a lot of guys (like me) love theirs, too.
3. Lynch pin assortment: has come in SO, SO, SO handy SO many times. Something comes without a lynch pin, or with a lynch pin that's not a good size, or with another kind of pin that's not as convenient as one of these would be, or one gets lost (I've had 2 fall off of the disk harrow now) -- this is what the doctor ordered. And this whole set is just barely more than what a few of them cost in most places!
4. PTO generator: I've often thought this would be great to have, and if I did buy one, I'd probably get the HFT credit card then so I could get the 10% off - lol! However, where I live (southeast GA) we really have power outages VERY seldom. And some folks say (logically so) that if they DO have an outage, it'll likely be for a reason that they need to be able to use their tractor to remedy, like downed trees and/or power poles. Basically, though, I just can't justify the cost -- at least not yet.
5. Towable backhoe: yes, I considered this too, but then through an inheritance I ended up with enough money for a tractor AND a backhoe. If I hadn't, though, this would still be tempting, if I could be relatively sure I'd have enough work to justify the cost. Like you pointed out, it's pretty pricey.
Well, enough waxing eloquent -- lol! Like I said, I enjoy your channel and content.
I hope my like and comment help with the CZcams algorithm and analytics. Have a great rest of the week!
Tim I always appreciate your well thought out and thorough responses. I had a long comment written up and I fat fingered the wrong button and it erased all of it and I don't know what I did. Just know I read your comment and really appreciate the feedback and perspective on all the parts below. Sorry it took so long to respond, these days I just get 10-20 comments a day and if I don't keep up with them I get buried haha. I always try to find the subsribers and long term vewiers like you as I genuinely appreciate your consistent comments and views!
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects "fat fingered" -- lol, been there, done that! And it took me a while to respond as well because I was on a week-long trip almost 700 miles from home. I'm looking forward to your next vid -- have a great day!
I believe a flywheel modification with the over run clutch that generator would work on an 8n. Because that generator needs more torque than h.p. especially at such a low r.p.m. Check out Jay Lenos video on his 2ton autocar delivery truck. That thing didnt have very much h.p. but it had a flywheel and plenty of torque. Them flywheels are how a lot of the old time equipment made torque power. Some say that they store energy. But they dont. They just multiple the energy thats put into them and the multiple is depending on the weight and diameter of the flywheel. The bigger the diameter the more leverage it gets, more it can move. The heavier it is, the more weight it can move too. I dont really know the math but it makes sense. More leverage and more weight.
Ya that does make sense. However I don’t know that I’d be willing to go as far as modifying the flywheel just for a generator, but I do see your point and think it made sense.
