Building the Dumas Ace Sloop Part 4

- Hello and welcome back to the final instalment of my Dumas Ace Racing sloop build log. In this weeks episode, I'm going to be doing all the rigging for my 17" free sailing model yacht model.
The instructions for this part of the build are a bit strangely worded, and having never set foot on a sailboat in my life, I have no idea of how to rig up a sailboat, so all of this was new to me. I have seen other people online asking how to rig up one of these boats and struggling with the instructions so figured it might help to show people how I went about installing the running gear on this boat model in an effort to help out my fellow model builders
After a lot of head-scratching and reading and re-reading the plans, however, I soon had a vague idea of what I was doing and once you come to add the bowsers and lines that make up the rigging everything makes more sense and falls into place as you go.
Other than the vague instructions supplied with this kit there were only a few issues with this part of the build, one that the cord likes to fluff up and unwind.Knots are best secured with super glue as you go. And with the amount of cord given to complete the task, the kit seems to ask you to cut out huge lengths of cord for each part but does not supply enough cord to complete the build using these lengths.
However despite this, I have really enjoyed making this model boat, for the £30 that I paid for the kit, I think it's well worth the money. And iv had hours and hours of fun building it and I think, even though it's not perfect, it's made into a fine little vintage style sailboat.
With that said though and the building, all finished there is only one thing left to do, get this little boat down to my local pond or boating lake and see how she handles life on the open waves!
Of course, that is if this landlubber can trim her to course
Anyway thank you for watching the video, I hope if you are building one of these kits yourself that you found my build log helpful, and if not I hope you enjoyed the video.
Until next time look after yourselves and have a good one I hope to see you all soon. - Zábava
I meant to add, thanks for the rigging lesson, I was hung up on rigging the jib, you saved me!
Glad it helped! I hated trying to work out the rigging from the instructions
Nice work! I love the wood bowsers. You are correct on the cord, I ran out! So I need to go get some more! It was fun to build!
Thanks mate, I recon cheap kids kite string would about cover it
Those wooden bowsers do look neat 😊👍
Thanks could have it been all wood and then ruin the last bit with plastic :)
Very nice job! I enjoyed the series. I hope you will show it being sailed.
Thanks mate, yes the maiden voyage video is out next Monday, wasn't perfectly trimmed but did well I think
Nice
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed the video
Looking good.. If I built it, it would be a pile with some sticks sticking out with string go between them 😂
Hahaha im sure would be alright dude, you managed a stick and tissue plane, there harder than this tbh
BTW your planes catching up in views to the other ones think its third or 4th after the magpie video went mental for no reason at all
