- In this weeks its the maiden voyage of my Dumas Ace 17 racing sloop
After putting in all that effort over the last few weeks it was time to get the little free sailing model yacht out on the boating lake. I was a bit nervous knowing that I wouldn't be in control of the craft and that it would literally be out there having its own adventure. Thankfully everything was smooth sailing though.
I think this little boat really looks nice out on the water and with a bit of wind really has a life of its own as it wonders around the lake doing pretty much as it pleases. I can see where the appeal is in these free sailing models and once you get over the fact that you are not in control its very relaxing watching it go about its thing. I was quite impressed at the speed it could get up to even on a really light wind.

That is just lovely. Definitely performing quite well. There's just something about putting a model out there when you have no control over when she's going to decide to come back. If my sailing pond had all-round access, I probably would have. It's been a pleasure watching you do this - I needed the reminder that it's about fun, not about perfection.
Thanks mate, think it could have been trimmed a bit better a steady wind would have been nice. But yes love that part of it, just let it go and have its own adventure out there on the lake. Ah I'm very lucky with having a lake like that so close. Glad you have enjoyed the video, But yes sometimes CZcams becomes about perfection and prestige I think sometimes that puts people off having a go themselves. I'm going to be doing a lot of model making on this channel in future and none of its perfect hope that makes other people have a go themselves
Nice work. Also you got the sails nicely trimmed the first time out. I have built two of these and they are a great value and a lot of fun. It is not just you who had a challenge with the chine and sheer longerons. I did too. It is the design not us. That is my story and I am sticking to it.
Thank you, yeah for the price you cant say fairer than that.I had a guide down at the lake he said loose for low winds tight for high winds and the rest is a balance Haha. Yeah was a bugger to do but I think I'll join that club in with you

Thanks mate,Yes it went from very still to brief gusts that where a bit more than she should handle, would have been better if she was trimmed for stronger wings but Id set id to light breeze at the start. Thanks though mate and thanks for watching hope all's well your end

Very nice video . I made one of these as a rc model and it sails great.
Nice how did you find fitting the electrics into it? That was my plan to begin with this one but having not built a sail boat before thought I best start out walking rather than running. Im looking at trying that with a lighting
@@scalestuff1066 I cut and made a hatch for the sail servo and the rudder servo fits flush with the deck with a push pull system.
Nice, I just didnt have the skills to add that hatch into it, fairplay, Id love to see that on the water

A few where dead down there when I went down to sail this I thought the cold snap had got them

be big and fast to knock a goose out,there the alpha predators on the lake :P
