openpilot is an open source driver assistance system. Currently, openpilot performs the functions of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automated Lane Centering (ALC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) for a growing variety of supported car makes, models and model years. In addition, while openpilot is engaged, a camera based Driver Monitoring (DM) feature alerts distracted and asleep drivers.

Did he ever say one critical thing about it? Because he totally gave away that he's biased by saying he'd display a cardboard box in his house. That was the strangest thing, it's not meant to be on display, why would he tout that as a feature of buying the product? What kind of awful decor does he have that a cardboard box would be something that would be above or on par with his other furnishings? I ordered mine and was told there is a 5 to 8 week wait....that's OK with me as the anticipation of getting this is almost as good as having it! I try it it's working
I was impressed with its night vision capability. Then I thought it would be fantastic if car windshields were somehow able to amplify night light intensity for regular driving, or even if auto-driving.
I mean, we have pretty sweet, small and fast ar glasses on the market for less than 1k$, so... technically the problem is more than solvable.
We also have transparent flexible displays(though i only saw the prototypes, but ehh, with enough money thrown at the manufacturer they can probably get you a custome shape), so you can make windshield a fullblown screen if you are that shrewd. Though i doubt that would be convinient due to how optics work and how this obstructs the original view(which is a recipe for the disaster combined with an inevitable input lag)
Does Comma Two work in stop and go traffic like bumper to bumper or less than 10mph? ive seen alot of Open Pilot videos but it's mainly with cars on the highway going 30+mph.
This is sooo great
Great product
Hi , I’ve just purchased a Lexus CT uk 2021 it comes with adaptive cruise control that doesn’t work until your at 28 miles an hour.! My old Audi was all speed cruise control. I’m so disappointed I feel like I’ve gone back 4 years in technology. Will this system work on my Lexus CT Hybrid 2021? I’ve only driven 100 miles and I hate it 😭 I wasn’t told it only worked over 28 mph. When you live in London most roads are only 20 mph ! It makes no sense to me . Any help would be great
Hi there, thank you for this kind of nice video. I‘ve heard you say you have installed comma pedal on your car. I'm wondering how should i connet the comma pedal with the comma two? Since there is only one ethernet connetion there. Thank you again, and hope i can recive your reply.

Curious about IR LED illumination inside the car through the windshield. My experience with surveillance cameras with IR illumination through windows is the glass reflects the IR LEDs and makes using the illumination impossible to use and imaging suffers. Night time driverless is scary already , relying on IR LED illumination from within the car is not making those scary thoughts any easier. In fact it adds anxiety,
thanks, Chris for the videos. without these, i wouldn't have gone for this.
i'm getting a new car in a week. i'm ok with any car. please suggest a car which works best with open pilot.
If you want best for openpilot, get a Toyota that has TSS 2. Something like the 2019/20 Corolla Hatchback/Rav4 or 2020 Corolla :)
Then it’s a 2020 Toyota Corolla😊
@@VirtuallyChris would a 2019 corolla be the same as a 2020 corolla for openpilot??
@@wantsanewvehicle it would absolutely be supported and work well! If you are buying a new car though I'd recommend 2020. Has the new angle sensor for smoother turning
@@VirtuallyChris gotcha gotcha, okay, thanks :) At the current time I have a company car so I have a cheap beater as my personal vehicle since I don't really need a personal vehicle (I have not even driven my car in 2 months lol). So, at the current time I am not looking for a new car. I'm going to rent one (either a corolla or camry, and I can kind of pick between 2019/2020 [toyota rental]) next month as I have a 1000 mile road trip I'll be taking and I figure it'll be a good time to test openpilot. I've put about 3500 miles using autopilot between a mX/mS/and m3 so I'd like to compare (of course I know tesla should ideally be better in certain ways), especially since I'll most likely never own a tesla lol.
How does it do in situations like roads under construction (ie missing road markings, etc)? Am I to assume you would need to manual drive during those situations?
Enjoyed your videos. Do you have to pay for open pilot software for use for the Comma Two? Does the Comma Two tell you automatically if there is a new open pilot software update? Thanks

It comes in the car harness purchase, but yes it's a regular USB-C cable. It needs all the pins hooked up so get a thunderbolt cable or a USBC 3.1 type 2
I'll add this to the original tesla roadster
Comma Two does not support Tesla vehicles at this time. For more details and an easy-to-use compatibility checker, please visit comma.ai/vehicles.
If I was to install this on an I pace would it override the default I Pace driving assist functions (Parking Assist etc) ? Also in terms of lane changing does the open pilot check to ensure its safe before changing lanes like a Tesla? I'm driving from London to Greece Santorini and back again with many stops along the way.
What SAE level are we talking about here, level 2 or 3? Does it recognize stop signs and traffic signals? Will it stop and go? Can it make right and left turns with oncoming traffic? Can you set your destination in a GPS and will it sync/couple with the comma 2 automation and take you there?
I really want to know if using this would invalidate any warranty/insurance policies if you get in an accident when using that.
would love to have that on my vw up
You can check if your vehicle is compatible with Comma at comma.ai/vehicles if you're interested
Does openpilot accelerate for you or slow down? And does it work at all speeds like in neighborhoods or just highways?
Good review! small device can do recognise lane, face, eye tracking, and make inference for lane keep assist and cruise control while 2 ( or 3 ) cameras is working simultaneously.
So if your car just have cruise control (without keep lane assist), this device cannot "override" the steering wheel right? and vice versa.
If so, why you need this device when your car have both cruise control and lane keep assist? The OEM device can do it for you even without this device right?
CMIIW
Correct
my car doesnt have lane keep assist at all, still openpilot works fine on it. as long as you have an electronic power steering it can be controlled.
so do you have to have an adaptive cruise control / assisted lane keep assist for open pilot to work?
I was wondering one thing. This morning I was commuting to my workplace and in the highway I took there was couple accidents hence there was a traffic. By the way, I own Prius 2019 and I've been using Adaptive Cruise Control in highway when there is no traffic. This morning I wondered if I had own Comma 2, would I be able to use it under 10mph. I just wanted to leave my feet free. You know it's also tricky because sometimes the front car moves or makes a sudden stop. I'm unable to use my Adaptive Cruise Control in this scenario.
With the reviews and test drives I've seen they say it adds stop and go functionality to vehicles that do not have it standard, so form what I understand this should solve your issue. There's a good ces 2020 demo posted recently with the creator along for the ride, he addresses your exact question. Hope this come soon to nissan so I can join the community along with you, hope I helped have a great day
Get it. The difference is night and day. I have a 2017 Prius and the OEM ACC/LKA is complete garbage. Comma_ai improves my Prius's ACC/LKA so much. You'll be blown away.
It works in stop and go traffic but it depends on whether you were already in ACC or not. For example, say you have comma_ai ACC set for 65 mph and you encounter a traffic jam.... comma_ai will stop the car to 0. To get the car moving again, you hit up on the cruise control stalk. But if at any time you manually brake the car or manually accelerate the car, comma_ai will disengage and you will have to re-engage it. It can get tricky to get comma_ai to re-engage when driving slowly. From experience, I think you have to be going 10-15mph for comma_ai ACC to re-engage. Then it will set the ACC to 28 mph (the minimum set by Toyota).
I'm surprised no one mentioned that the guy that is the CEO and invented this thing, George Hotz, was also the first person to "jailbreak" an iPhone (and the PS3), so he's no fool. Several years ago he was talking about how Lidar is not the way to go because of cost, though I'd imagine a single forward facing camera has its limits too.
Do you have to push the gas pedal again after coming to a hard stop at a traffic light or something similar?
Going to be getting this some time this week. But I would not leave it in the car if you live in a hot climate. Where i live I can't leave it as the inside of my car can get over 150f to 180f on a summer hot day. I get outside temp in the upper 90s to the low 100s during summer.
The comma two can be in the car during those temperatures. It won't be able to engage at the very beginning of the drive as it will need to cool down for the first ~10 minutes, but the hardware won't be damaged being at that temperature.
How well does it work in bumper to bumper traffic? What about city driving? Does it obey stop signs and traffic lights? What if someone pulls out in front all of a sudden? The concept is quite interesting though. It would come in handy if one was driving in remote stretches of highway, like desert setting.
It also relys on WI-FI
Looks like a Modded one plus 3
you almost got me fooled 😂
The whole ad lost all believability at 'premium packaging'.
I have a 2018 CR-V, and it has a camera already. Does your system uses that, or the built in one? The reason I'm asking is, because I'd prefer to bring it closer to the driver side, or how far can I bring it away from the center? Since the camera is already towards the left side of your system, and it seems that it can not be flipped.
Your 2018 Honda CR-V is fully supported by the comma two. And to answer your other question: *I have absolutely no idea.* You'd have to go to comma.ai & join their Discord, then ask for support there.
How does it handle obstacles and animals running in the road or a quick stop
Will insurance companies not void your insurance policy if you get in an accident and have this?

Nice video Chris. Thanks for the update.
still I am bit disappointed as both comma two and first EON are monitoring only the drivers on left hand driver seats. I am from a country where right hand drive cars are available.
Comma.ai team is not yet prepared to make devices which monitor right hand drive drivers.
Do you have any solution for this?
Wonder if googly eyes on the headrest would fool the system and allow for operation? Maybe a mannequin head lol but who know could work
This is interesting. It should be a quick fix with turning it 180degree.
Mike Smith that's funny, but totally unnecessary . Driver monitoring is a feature that can be turned on or off by the user, so if there is no head in the frame because the driver is sitting on the other side, the COMMA2 would still work, but it would require you to make driver input every 3 mins to prove you are still alive and awake.
Victor Sinclair thanks for the reply. Is it possible to select on the comma 2, which side of the road (left or right) we are driving?
Or should we change the open source software?
