openpilot is an open source driver assistance system. Currently, openpilot performs the functions of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automated Lane Centering (ALC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) for a growing variety of supported car makes, models and model years. In addition, while openpilot is engaged, a camera based Driver Monitoring (DM) feature alerts distracted and asleep drivers.

Great video, awesome performance overall
Great demonstration! :)
That's amazing!
Great video!
This video is soothing as much as the open pilot is.
My wife wanted a Tesla model Y but I am convinced that a RAV4 Plug-in-Hybrid with open pilot will be a better choice for us. In Canada the dual motor base is $72 320 Cdn . Even IF tesla can get it to qualify for tax incentives and save $8k the price will still be $64 680.... that is WITHOUT the FSD upgrade. For me a RAV4 PHEV will come in at about $34 to $40k with tax incentives saving $4k so for about 1/2 the price I can get a Vehicle that has 4 wheel drive, using open pilot I will have something that is similar to autopilot for long drives/commute.... I think with open pilot in the RAV4 PHEV you get something that is much more affordable and functional then the Model Y.
Canada gets a plug in hybrid rav 4?!?!?!
Alijah Simon - only idiot is you. Even with super charger network you will still ad hours to a long trip. Also a more people get ev s charging station waiting will get worse. Try to drink less of the Kool aid
If you plan on getting this hardware for your car, u need to make sure that there’s built in support for it. Even though the company lack support for all vehicles, the community had built support for a handful of cars. If you have some comp sci friends, and this doesn’t support your RAV, that be cool if they could take on development for the rav 4 support
I strongly encourage you to get a Tesla. Studies show that stopping on long-distance trips is actually good for you. You convinced your wife to go against a car she really wants because she loves you. You could have been healthier and own a car that's cheap to own. But you chose a car that runs on terrible energy. And by the time superchargers get too packed, there would be more charges. You're thinking as if the chargers on the road are the only chargers needed.
I can see why you decided on a car with less value on it. You don't have the logic and understanding of the future. Your wife does.
I love the openpilot project, anyway I do not think that Tesla autopilot is a comparable system, clearly is way more advanced and safer. They are currently running millions of miles with that software and I expect it to improve very fast, you will get free updates over the air! Regarding the fossils fuel of RAV4 I don't want to comment, seems like something of the past. Also consider safety of Tesla's in crash tests and compare it with RAV4.
great video! Request for heavy morning commute type traffic and whether exit diving is an issue
Saw you at comma ai office today in Lex Friedman's video.
"How does it feel to be famous?"😂
i heard he is a famous youtuber
*"How did fame change you?"
Great video. Great live feedback. Knowing VT roads: I wonder if the next dev update will start to model the snow pushed up on the right side of the road.
I just installed my open pilot yesterday, and it works exactly like this vdoe. It is amazing. So worth the money because I take 8 + long road trips a year.
How has it been so far?
awesome video I love my Comma 2
I can't wait to get my comma two waiting for a check to clear. I do alot of highway driving in the inland empire in California and traffic is awful at times. I about 1 hour from where I work so this should be a big help with fatigue with driving 60 miles one way.
great video
Can’t wait to watch this! Can we expect to see any toyota content with 0.7 and Comma Two?
Hey Tdou, got 2017 toy Corolla and waiting for my comma 2.
Very impressive
That was quite good. Far better than I have ever seen from comma. It's possible they use maps to guide the turns when unsure and you could try drives with no cars ahead to guide it but if it's mostly visual it's a significant step forward. Those are not trivial visual conditions. And running on a phone which is what? maybe 100x slower than Tesla AP3
AAA well done
B++ to A- really cool
Nice 👍
Looks really cool. Are you taking it to cars and coffee in south Burlington too ?
Oh man, I would love support for the 2020 Hyundai Sonata. The ACC, ALC, FCW, and LDW that comes with it are already top-of-the-line for its class. With this, it would be unstoppable.
They just released it Yesterday. It is officially supported with a plug and play harness. I ordered it for my 2019 Optima. Make sure you choose the 2020 Sonata so you get the right harness. Hyundai has several different ones which is why it too the team so long to get them made.
Is the "eps_modified = true" the torque steering mod for civics? Or is it something else?
Also what is the Honda Pedal you are talking about? I just got a 2017 civic touring and purchased the Comma 2. Just waiting for it to be delivered, but I'd love to get the best experience out of it.
Thanks!
I’m new to openpilot just installed it a few days ago on my 2017 Honda Civic. How do you get your Honda/openpilot to make the tight turns I see in your video? I’m constantly getting the take over turn exceeds turning limit message.
Became suddenly reminiscent of my days at UVM and Fletcher Allen
Very exciting product. I wonder how much of the lane tracking is based on tracking the car in front of the driver.
Hey great video. I’m about to order comma two. Wondering about your peddle. What’s the benefit of it. I saw you said it helps acceleration, do you mean it helps not take off like a bat out of hell? Also where can I find one???????? Thanks
Liked and subbed. Will Kia e-Niro be supported anytime soon?
Enjoyed your videos. Thinking of getting the Comma Two and installing it in a 2019 RAV 4 with TSS 2.0. Does it have any advantage compared to Toyotas with TSS 1.0 ? Thanks.
Absolutely, TSS 2 is great since it has a better steer angle sensor so the car feels more on rails, and all TSS 2 cars do stop and go openpilot control while preserving auto emergency braking.
Thank you for being such a great source on Openpilot. I'm curious about leaving the coma 2 inside the car while it's cold out. Any feedback?
Of course!! Worst case it will turn off and boot up once the heat starts up - and it will boot up with no errors. That being said, I've never had it get too cold to turn off so it operates normally.
I thought they dropped the battery for that reason? At least it does not use a crazy suction mount! Proper stick on mount.
@@gregandkaruna6674 Yeah, VHB tape is great stuff! 😁
VirtuallyChris hello, with this 0.7.1 have you been able to improve the steering limit when cornering on the honda civic? Thank you
Alright, I reach the part on the video that talks about 12:35 not able to detect red lights and stop signs. Is there any indication of V2I communication in the future?
just ordered it for my 2020 Sonata
@Virtuallychris How your car main display running camera? That's pretty cool how do you do that?
So this may be a stupid question but will this work withoutout cruise being on? For around town autopilot I would prefer to use the gas myself?
I understand that with Mazda CX-3,5,9, they hv a community to make it support above 32mph. The CX-30 2020 has the Stop and Go now, it would be interesting to see if Comma will support it. If not, I am thinking the CR-H is a good option.
Does Openpilot work with the navigation? So does it know to make turns on and off a highway by itself, or does it really only function on strait roads and you the driver take over for the turns?
Please make a "top ten cars for open pilot" video.
B+ Maybe A- but I'm soooo getting Rav4 and open pilot!
does this thing has a Map that you can input a destination and it brings you there? Or it's just a better Cruise Control system?
Suggestions on where to get Honda Pedal> I have a 2019 Honda Pilot and would love to be able to enhance the acceleration issues.
I’m also very interested in this!
Can you use auto pilot without using cruise control? Meaning that you “manually” step on the gas/brake while the car auto steers the car? I am not sure if you did in the video.
It will be good to see how it does during night time and in really dark (no light) street.
No, OpenPilot senses that as a disengagement signal.
I only counted a 5 second following distance. So only 2 seconds more than recommended. But ideal for a semi that takes longer to stop.
I’m thinking about getting the Honda Insight. Will this work as good?
What's that click I hear when it starts accelerating? Is it related to comma pedal?
My car key in the cupholder 😂
Where can one get a Honda pedal? My Ridgeline doesn’t do stop and go without one apparently.
Which Civil you are driving? Does this compatible with 2020?
very good video, i still think Telsa is better, but i really hope George improves his openpilot.
Do you know you can nudge the turn signal on most newer cars to get 4 blinks and an auto cancel? Does OPilot accept this?
Does it really use just one camera on the smartphone? Does it support adding more cameras like to expand the view in curves, maybe connect an additional camera to both upper corners on the windshield to cover more visual field, and maybe it can support installing additional sensors like Lidar and radar on your car? Does it support using the built in sensors that many newer cars come with?
It interfaces with your cars camera system radar etc. That's why it requires you have adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist.
So yeah it uses one camera. Until openpilot can fully utilize the one camera well, they won't be adding more. It actually doesn't use anywhere near the total field of view of the camera to control the car yet so there's lots of room for improvement. It also uses the radar built into the car on cars where openpilot can control gas and brakes like in my car
What do you need to install this ? Does the civic need honda sensing already?
Hey Chris, at 15:34 is openpilot accelerating or are you accelerating?
Openpilot!
Chris, can you share where I might find a tutorial on the EPS torque mod you implemented?
I am also interested in this. Did you have any luck on finding out more about this process?

What camera set up do you have running to your center screen there?
Honda's have a passenger side camera mounted on the passenger side mirror as a part of their safety packages it's to check your blindspot b4 changing lanes but can be on while the vehicle is in motion at high speeds.
Does it recognize when you want to turn lanes and it turns lanes for you?
Do you have to install the software explicitly once you receive the comma 2 kit? or is it pre installed?
You have to install the software yourself.
Have you tried it on a highway with heavy traffic? like bumper-to-bumper levels
holy shit this is the best system out there, way better than tesla
I have ordered the comma two for my 2019 Camry Hybrid LE will it behave similarly as your Civic with TSS-P? My 2017 CR-V Touring is much better at lane keeping compared to my Camry so I m hoping open pilot improves my Camry alot more than what TSS-P is offering.
You will get performance similar to my Civic here, maybe even more torque for larger turns :)
Is your stock civic like my 2016 CRV that does not have low speed follow? Is that why you added the comma pedal? How hard was it to add the comma pedal?
I did it just for better acceleration from stop, but it would add full stop and go for your car. It's easy to add, finding one to purchase is the harder part.
@@VirtuallyChris got it. Thanks.
Can you explain a little bit more about what happened at 19:29 with your car warning to brake?
TheJediBendu some Honda’s have a brake warning to alert a driver that may not be paying attention, however it isn’t always accurate and catches things and alerts such as at that time stamp a car coming at Chris while in a turn. My 2015 accord likes to catch odd shadows and doesn’t like when the sun hits road lines.
I bought mine 1 year 3 months ago. Out of warranty after 1year.
It is now broken....the unit overheats as a controller board is trash and the fan no longer works.
The unit to replace without warranty is $500. I doubt I will pay $500 to get a unit that has no warranty and no guarantee that it will even work a day after reinstalling. I was then quoted $1200 for a new unit with a 1 year warranty. Not going to do that.
The idea is great. I loved mine when it was working. After a little over a short 1 year time span, it stopped working. YMMV.
I will now be Coma AI deficient. Not going to spend $500 or $1200 again.
Good luck with yours if you get one.
I think the Comma three has figured out those kind of issues, especially now that it's not just a phone in a shell. But that sucks about your unit, sorry to hear :(
Soon we will watch auto pilots racing
That's interesting it can't detect stop lights and signs. Is that a thing they are working on?
From where do I get a Honda Pedal and how can I install it?
Are you running stock OP or a custom fork?
Stock with a longitudinal tune for my pedal
Hey there I recognize all these roads since I live in essex. I own Wires Computing in burlington, look us up and stop by sometime.
I'd be happy to give you a test drive sometime! I'll swing by if I get the chance here soon :)
0.7.4 video please!
does open pilot work outside the US? I live in New Zealand where we drive on the left hand side of the road...
It does, there is an option in the software to 'enable right hand drive'
PsMove libusb: error [windows_get_device_list] program assertion failed - existing device should share parent
hi, I have a 2017 Lexus IS300, it shows dash cam mode, vehicle not supported, I read it is something with the fingerprint issue, I am not a coding geek, please help me out
What is the steering limit? Limited by Honda or OpenPilot? Thanks
It's tapping into the car's lane assist system, so I would assume that the limit is imposed by Honda as most cars deactivate lane assist on curvy roads.
@@tzeimet Really? Honda's lane assist frequently gets confused by random dark marks on the road. My dad got pissed off enough about all the false positives that he completely deactivated that feature in his vehicle. Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.
Limited by honda firmware, but you can flash a mod to override it
is your model the 1-5t or 2.0 engine ..
Hey! I have a 2017 Honda Civic ex w/o Honda sensing. Could I get this to work with my car?
How do you think itll do on 2020 corolla hybrid
Why your car lcd is On. I see video on your car's screen.
will open piolet ever recognize stop lights and signs
Now the Honda Sensing's LKAS no longer quoting the driver hands back to the steering wheel (however driver keep responsible of the driving and keep eyes on the road).
How can I pay to have this installed on my 2019 Honda clarity in San Diego?!
Hello what model Honda is this?
Probably been asked many times, but why can the car makers not have this standard with their Toyota TSS 2.0 or whatever Honda is using? Just seems crazy this bolt on unit can do so much better!
Because it's alpha software. The safety is not certain for any build (a new build could regress in a certain situation) and asking for a lawsuit. The OEM choose what they are confident is reliably safe, it's old technology for them too.
@@joa8593 Oh yeah forgot your right, Comma.ai does not include Openpilot software to avoid problems.
Yo, shout out to Burlington.
i'm actually surprised that car did really well have to admit better then tesla low range mile sadens lmao
Roundabouts? Can it perform in them?
I haven't seen roundabouts in any openpilot video
Open pilot V 0.7.4now can do stop and go on 2019 Honda Odyssey/ Elite ? I just want to confirm that from you . Please help . Thanks a bunch .
Does it park by itself
So what did you modify in the current build? Just the acceleration?
Yes, just a longitudinal tune for my pedal
to be smoother :)
How does your car do in stop and go traffic?
Really well! I'll try to get footage of that sometime. It's a bit hard when I'm in Vermont where traffic is rare!
@@VirtuallyChris Hey, at least you'll be happy to be in traffic haha.
doee this comma two work for 2018 honda civic hatchback sport ?
If you have Honda Sensing then yes
EPS Moded Civic ?
Can it works on my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500
i see pro and con
I thought it didn't work good in Honda's?
new videos in the works?
You still using openpilot two years later?
How would you use your stock cruise if you wanted to?
set the device to dashcam mode in the settings
Yeah there's a toggle to disable openpilot but it would require a car reboot to swap over
You guys have to make this work with outlander phev, it already has adaptive cruise control, has 7 cameras and tons of Lane assist sensors all over the place
That one dislike! Maybe from Tesla?! Lol
Either that or disgruntled chauffeurs. :D
Is that a Honda Insight?
2017 Honda Civic EX
I think this is better then what tesla can do
Any possibility of this with the new 2020 sonata limited?
It probably would, I'd join the Discord and ask in the Hyundai channel! :)
@@VirtuallyChris what's the discord link?

They released the official plug and play harness for 2020 Sonata yesterday. I ordered one for my 2019 Optima.
