- SCOTT BROWN fondly remembered how Walter Smith told him to 'cause carnage' as he paid tribute to the Rangers legend.
The former Light Blues manager has passed away at the age of 73 following a period of illness.
berdeen skipper Brown was handed his Scotland debut by Smith in a 1-1 friendly draw with the USA back in 2005.
He still counts his memory of the manager's advice to him on the night as one of his fondest in the game.
And while the Celtic hero would go on to face Smith's Rangers sides in the years afterwards, he still held immense respect for him.
Speaking following the news of Smith's death, Brown said: "It's so sad.
"Walter was a fantastic man and he was the one who gave me my first Scotland cap many years ago.
Smith tried to take Brown from Hibs to Rangers but the midfielder had his heart set on moving to Celtic Park.

Nothing but respect from Scott Brown, great tribute I have to say. Shows how universally loved Sir Walter Smith was. 👏💙❤️
Never watched a Scott brown interview with such a smile on my face before, terrific interview. Amazing Scott, well done👍🏻💙
scott is a nice guy.he is a human being like us all and got loads of respect for him not just because of this interview.Rivery is only on the pitch no need for that off the pitch.nice speech scott brown👏👏👏👏
I agree and I've liked, but it's "rivalry". Rivery is what a stream is.
Class Scott, from a Rangers fan
Brown is a rangers fan
@@conorD28 yeah and a celtic legend so that’s why we are saying well played cause he hates anything to do with rangers now that’s why
@@conorD28 tbh I think all his years with them and him taunting us he's definitely no longer a gers fan.. A turncoat
@@conorD28 same as Gazza who is a Celtic fan. Funny auld game eh🤭
@@allow-itman9749 would you knock back 10 g a week but? Sure singing about his sisters cancer helped him make a choice
This is a Celtic fan here. But i happy to see we Celtic and rangers people, can get along. no matter what. I care about people than football, RIP Big Blue man, i hope you have great. banter with both Celtic and rangers people in the sky.
Totally agree.. Gers nut.
Tommy Burns and Walter Smith - gentlemen who had massive respect for each other and their clubs. Both fans must remember this.
End of the day, we’re all pals with Celtic or Rangers fans aren’t we
Scott knows. regardless of rivalry. that football is about the people. respect.
When with Celtic, Scott Brown showed his solidarity with our Glen Kamara after he was racially abused in Prague. Now Scott pays tribute to Walter Smith.
Scott Brown is a Gentleman, forever a Celtic great and am sure he'll do well at Aberdeen (like scoring goals v Rangers!).
Rest in Peace Walter Smith.
Pure Respect From Scott Brown,
Well said Broony. 💚💙
First time iv ever liked what brown said well done fella 👍🏻🇬🇧
Walter Smith was a gentleman and a lovely human being. Hail! hail! the Celts are here. C'mon Scotland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When it comes to the Old Firm, I always root for Celtic, but always had huge respect and admiration for Walter Smith.
A perfect gentleman, always gracious and humble whether in victory or defeat.
He did as much as anyone to eliminate the ugly sectarianism between the clubs.
Hoping that a Celtic contingent attended his funeral to pay their respects too.
Nice one Broony many Celtic fans had nothing but respect for Walter Smith.
Respect to both
Always detested Scott Brown, but for him to speak like that about a legend of my club says lot about him 👏
Detested him cause he won 19 big trophys at the mighty hoops lol
@@gb-jk7sx Oh wow he won trophies against the weakest rangers team ever and mostly competing against Aberdeen 🙄 outside of Scotland he's a nobody, never got a move, Charlie adam has played at a higher level ffs made a lot more money and people worldwide will remember him for his goal against Chelsea. To people outside celtic that's worth more than anything broon the goon won in Scotland.
He always had a smile on his face when he was interviewed for the hoops that's just broony hes just happy go lucky
Well done Scott mutch respect rip Walter smith xx

@Martin Devlin may be , may be, but it was all about cash, some sell their soulds for it ? Displaying a lack of dignity
@@stuzo666 like yourself
@@hopefulperson9057 ? I dont like football , but for many exceptions like mccoist, Tommy burns etc it meant more and you gotta respect that, a quality severely lacking at anytime in the past and more so now !!!! Obviously more than these two but they stand out 4 me
Again, Not the time for this sort 😏
I think you should check the real meaning of the word hero,
this clown does not fit the bill.
So what's a hero??
Scott Brown Was A Rangers Fan Lol
Doesn't matter, Walter commanded respect from every quarter. Im a bhoy and God bless Walter RIP
It’s said he has or once had a Rangers tattoo on his ankle.
Seriously not the time for this sort 😏
True blues will keep there comments respectfully to WALTER SMITH and WALTER SMITH only, the rest of you hang your head in shame 🤫
He supported Dunfermline as a kid.
A just hope the Aberdeen fans don't sing anything about him .they hate rangers
They better not rest in peace Walter Smith from a Celtic fan . A rangers legend and true Gentleman
Would be very disrespectful if they do
As a Dons fan, this is my fear for tonight. We have a section of the support who are complete idiots with no respect for anyone or anything. I can only hope none of that element has a ticket for tonights game and respect is shown to a great footballing man.
@@bobby6728 like the respect shown by Celtic fans towards those you died fighting for there country
@@scottw.3258 jury's out if you are actually a dons fan
No respect for his celebration after his goal against Rangers 🤬🤬🤬🤬
Why?
Is that how he ripped of his arm band during 1st half
This is all fake wae this guy the disrespect he showed the fans when he scored when wur wur chanting walters name
get a grip mate , are teams just meant to stop playing because you are chanting Walters name
Most bigoted guy in Scotland
