Tears blinding me here. I’m far from a Rangers fan but someone like Walter Smith played a part in all of our lives here in Scotland. As important to our football as the ball itself. Sad day for us all. A great man, the type of which they don’t make any more. My sincere condolences to all who knew him and admired him. Tremendous tribute from Ally here, who must have found that so difficult. Rest well Walter. You were some man.

You can hear the real rawness of emotion and grief in Allys voice talking about his manager, friend and father figure Walter....it is heartbreaking yet heartwarming at the same time.
It's been said the true worth of a person's legacy isn't based on achievements alone, but how people speak of their character and personality. The reverence Walter is spoken about here by Ally is a true testament to the man. Rest in peace Walter Smith.

He brought great success to RFC and was always very humble in his success. Best wishes to his grieving family and all his friends who will surely miss him.

As a rangers fan. Seeing that Walter was even so well respected by the other side of the city warms my heart. It brings me back to when Tommy Burns died... I'll speak ill of anyone who ever wore the green and white hoops... But not Tommy Burns, he was a class act and i dont have a bad word to say about him now we have 2 of scottish footballs greatest minds looking down on us..... Maybe scotland might even qualify for a world cup now eh.... RIP Walter Smith.. WE ARE THE PEOPLE 🇬🇧

The type of man you just know you would have enjoyed working for. I was little shocked by the news as 73 is young enough these days. But none of us know when our short journeys in this world are going to end. R.I.P Walter. Rest well big man.

So sad to hear. Managed to get the best out of Gazza, both at Rangers and Everton. Souness may have laid the foundations for Walter in Glasgow, but like Paisley taking over from Shanks, he went on and produced a dynasty. Well done, Ally for keeping it together. I could see how devastated he was talking about the great man.

@Sean Yep. Gazza was severely heading off the rails after his stint at Boro, and Walter kind of reinvented him as a holding midfielder at Everton, spraying the ball about in front of the back four. Always wonder how good he could have been without those terrible injuries..?
