black or forbidden magic IS ancient magic, but only because elves have deemed any ancient magic as illegal and bad, so its a big taboo. Marcille of course doesnt agree with that and prefers calling it the more neutral name, instead of the stigmatized name for it.
Not just elves, ancient magic were studied by another races, too. And they are forbidden for a reason :’/
The reason why it is forbidden is explained in the deeper lore, oh boy what a plot twist.
I think Marcille’s resurrection spell would have worked if it weren’t the mad mages pet/servant? red dragon that they use for replacement for missing body. Maybe the red dragon soul was tied to dungeon like humans souls unlike other common monsters thus far.
The soul might not even matter. It seems everything in the dungeon (living or otherwise) is under the control of the elf mage. Since most of falin is now made of the dungeon's red dragon, the elf can control her. But yeah if they used non-dungeon resources to fix falin (sheep/cow etc), then she would probably be fine.
That seemed more like hopeless laughter rather than maniacal.
to the people who police the matter, no, there is not a distinction between ancient and forbidden magic worth debating

Hear me out, I might be alone on this one, but the orc captain, the sister of the orc chief is kind of cute. And she has a strong build, if you count Namari too, that make at least two female who aren't skinny or just a little plumpy in the show and with a body type that we don't see very much. I love that for the show (and the manga). ^^.

Laios asked where the Red Dragon had been spotted after overhearing it was why they had moved upwards in the dungeon, and initially the information was refused. Once they got to know each other a bit better, Laios stated that they were after the dragon to retrieve a party member, and the info was just given without a warning, since four people fighting a dragon is kinda nuts anyway.
Also, Marcille’s laugh during sicko mode was pure stress. She’s far from ‘familiar’ with casting ancient magic, let alone getting pressed to use it repeatedly in a fight. It’s like getting lucky shots and needing to continue getting lucky shots, the way she was using it there.
I mean they did omit the Lunatic Mage part so yeah
@@billlee3851 What part? It was stated early in this episode that the subtitles were for the dub instead, the subs do call him the lunatic mage. Not sure if I’m forgetting something that’s supposed to be in this part besides that.
If you mean him being called the lunatic mage “because” ancient magic drove him nuts, that’s… _probably_ not it (unless extra material went over it, which doesn’t need to be confirmed here), I think.
well, He still didn't mentioned the possibility of intervention by the mad mage.. maybe on purpose.
I think it's an absolute crime they didnt have the little 'food is ready' jingle play and progressively get drowned out while the ham sinks away. it wouldve been perfect

@@syzler8664 Yeah, ancient and forbidden are interchangeable here, as they’re referring to the same brand. Marcille’s study is in how ‘ancient’ magic can be put to practical use, sidelining why it was ‘forbidden’ at some point.
Granted, that the first time it comes up is reviving a body ahead of anything else they’ve done thus far, _does_ suggest that the main reason it got forbidden, was because it made mages “look creepy.”

Ancient Magic is Forbidden. But not all magic which is Forbidden is Ancient Magic.
Being Forbidden is just a state based on societal pressures, Ancient Magic is what Marcille's specialized study is focused on. Ancient Magic just happens to be Forbidden.

I have a theory that Laios unknowingly caused this entire dungeon in the first place. The paintings caused a time dilation when Laios entered it, hence the Lunatic Mage blamed him for the death of the king, which is the reason why he still got beef against him.
Interfering with the paintings don't change what actually happened in real life. To the Lunatic Mage, he just saw some random human go inside the paintings and that's it. He's still never met Laios before.
It's why he said "I saw you in the paintings." instead of "I saw you back then."
Pretty sure the paintings are just some kind of simulacrum for the mad mage to revisit the past from time to time
