    I think Laios cares to people as much as normal person do. But his thoughts process is kinda raw. He using pure logic instead of mixed them with feeling and empathy. He knew exactly what was going on with Senshi when Senshi told them about griffin meat problem. But instead of giving him an emotional support, Laios try to find a way for Senshi to solve his problem. He's aware about peoples around him feel, just his reaction of careness to that is feel so blunt and raw. Shuro with eastern culture who have much of subtle social gesture just too much for Laios thought process.

    • @bluestReacts
      @bluestReacts  Před měsícem +11

      I don't think it's a problem of caring or not, he's just indifferent to people's feelings unless he's directly confronted with them. A great example would be when he never recognized Shuro's feelings for Falin. The reason he attempted to find a solution for Senshi was because the problem actively effected one of their party members and his ability to continue, as well as them openly talking about it so he wasn't able to NOT notice it happening lol

    • @RutabegaNG
      @RutabegaNG Před měsícem +14

      @@bluestReactshe wasn't indifferent, he was unaware. I know to a lot of people it does look like he was indifferent, like he decided to ignore it or just not make an effort, but that is inaccurate. He truly didn't recognize it.
      Social cues are not intuitive. Unless you become hyper aware, and trust me that is exhausting, you will miss a lot of them. Autistic girls have a little bit of an easier time, on average, but it's unclear how much of that is nature and how much of that is nurture. We are, after all, expected to be the social ones, and you will get corrected, sometimes harshly, if you miss them, from an early age.

    • @enriqueortiz9093
      @enriqueortiz9093 Před měsícem +8

      @@bluestReactsExactly, Laios is indifferent when it comes to reading people, which is why Kabru was worried he might be like the lord of the island, who is genuinely indifferent. Laios misses social cues, making him very blunt and direct. He doesn't pay much attention to how others feel, but he is very optimistic and kind, which is why he tries to help Senshi and also approaches Shuro to ensure he doesn't feel alone since he was new to the island. Even though he is kind, he can't read people and won't know what's wrong with them unless they tell him. On his own, he would never know what's going on with Senshi, something that Chilchuck, for example, does notice.
      It's not that he's indifferent by choice; he simply can't understand people.

    15:05 Yeah, they also mention in the previous episode that Chilchuck’s senses did get dampened
    21:10 It’s probably worth noting that while it’s common for neurodivergent people to be generally disinterested in socialization, they do want to interact with people they care about.
    25:54 This is honestly a great moment for Laios, he’s laser-focused on finding ways to help Falin, even if the approach sounds grim.
    I’d also like to take this opportunity that I subscribed to your channel precisely because of how you engage with plot points and go into detail about what you think about the characters and where the story is going. I imagine a lot of people think the same, which is probably why Dungeon Meshi is doing well on your channel, being a series with lots to talk about. See you in season 2, and rest assured this story is nowhere near done cooking.

    6:00 It’s worth noting that 50 is the ‘average’ rather than a set maximum, and that despite Chilchuk being very good at his job, he _has_ died a number of times in this dungeon alone (the only stated dungeon to feature revival as an availability), to mimics.
    8:03 Also, the changelings themselves seem to _try_ to match proportions (given the hippogriff became a griffin instead of any other flying quadraped), while Falin’s current state is outright malnourished due to jank design, so there’s a solid chance the changed form would be _more_ severe rather than less.
    10:31 It would also wind up with two of them unable to pass through a circle of themselves to change back. One (or two) would be stuck in their form, _if_ the changelings even changed them back.
    26:11 It _is_ still the main plan, this is effectively them establishing a solid backup plan that isn’t “pray plan A works _exactly_ how we want it to/wing it if it does not.”

    Laios on the spectrum:
    This is likely an unexpected take, but what convinced me that Laios is autistic is how people who are be considered neurotypical perceive him.
    This could easily turn into a novel, but what grabbed my attention is the things you were saying about him being disinterested in people and that reminded me of others talking about his lack of empathy and awareness, and that's not accurate.
    All of those things are there. They are just expressed in a way that a person who is considered neurotypical may not necessarily recognize.
    I can see it. I know others see it. And I know a lot of people who are considered neurotypical don't. That's not a criticism or anything along those lines, it's just a statement of fact.
    Social cues are another nightmare unto themselves. You get so accustomed to misreading that you may wind up making one of two choices - keep guessing and getting it wrong all the freaking time, or isolate yourself so that you don't have to deal with the repercussions of constantly missing social cues that everyone else seems to catch.
    I'll leave it at that.
    I want to mention that I _do_ enjoy watching your reactions. There are plenty of others who I've watched once or twice and decided that I just don't need them in my life.

    Allow me to bring my insight on this subject. As someone whom is on the Autism Spectrum, I feel that I can safely say, that I see bits and pieces of Laios which I can see being autistic traits, but I also have seen some pieces to which I feel either aren't or are symptoms of ASD that I don't recognize myself.
    1. He has an interest in cooking and studying monsters, to an extent to which can come off as obsessive and uncomfortable to outsiders looking in depending on the situation. This tends to be called a "Special Interest." which is another way of saying that you have a topic or subject matter to which to love to a point to where it can come off as extreme and repetitive. It tends to be specific and restrictive in nature, though know that those with ASD can have more than one special interest.
    2. He isn't all that great with social cues, he tends to say things or express things in a way to which can come off as strange or weird to what we would consider "normal" people. He also isn't all that good at reading body language. This is more often than not traits to which those on the autism spectrum tend to have, though autism is a spectrum.
    Everyone whom has ASD behave differently, there aren't any symptoms or traits to which are all common or the same etc. For example, I feel I'm pretty good with eye contact whenever I talk to people, meanwhile there are those on the spectrum to which don't make eye contact when talking to people.
    When it comes to things I don't recognize as ASD symptoms, I personally question his morality sometimes. There are quite a few instances when I questioned weather or weather not he genuinely loves and wants to save his sister, or if it was just an excuse to live out his monster cooking fantasies. Although, I choose to believe it's both.
    There are quite a few points in the series to which, I somewhat agreed with his friends, for example, I know for a fact that if my friend was being strangled bit a giant plant monster, I wouldn't go on a tangent on how that said plant is parasitic and plants it seeds into their flesh. I certainly wouldn't exclaim to my party "If my sister didn't get eaten by a dragon, we wouldn't be enjoying this delicious sorbet!". Or something like that. Though again, it could or could not be a symptom of ASD that I straight up missed.
    Speaking of which their are other symptoms in which I either didn't catch on my watch through or didn't see in Laios, such as stimming (repetitive movements like rocking in a chair, repetitive hand movements), sensory hypersensitivity (extreme reactions to loud noises, smells or other stimuli), difficulties coping with change etc.
