    Just ran across this, and I'm glad you posted it. Might convince me to get off my rear and debug my spare asteroids board that has crazy graphics.

      @LyonsArcade  Před 7 lety +2

      That's the worst when it's graphics problems, because it's on the vector generator side and much harder to track down in my opinion.... it's easier when it's on the cpu side but you just have to walk through the schematic and try to track it down.

    @2:13 Asteroids cocktail... that is a thing of beauty.

    I found myself very inquisitive during your pcb repair demonstration, and more understanding of the electronic troubleshooting process, thanks. I know you are very busy, Joe.

    So, you replaced the DAC chip and that is what fixed it? Also, do you know anywhere I could get stencils for the overlay? Thanks. Love your videos.

    I've really enjoyed your videos! I'm very curious as to a problem my Asteroids has demonstrated... Watching these leads me to believe that the issue is in the Y axis outputs.
    Have you ever seen a situation where one of the grid lines - although nice and crisp. drops from the X axis for the entire path? Example, in the top left corner, the diagonal line should begin right in the corner. Instead, it begins a good inch or so down the X axis, resulting in the entire path dropping so that the point where it meets the bottom X line, is actually below the line and then begins the upward path. Following this same line, the entire image it creates is the same gap below the top line.
    Have already performed a full (electrolytic) cap replacement but now notice that many of the tantalum caps in the video output area are discolored from heat.
    Many thanks!

      Yes it sounds like something in the Y output to me too, I havent' seen one do that but that would be the area I would start checking first!

      Thanks, I've eliminated the 4016B's, TLO81's and 82's, working my way back _ could be the heat damaged 220pf Tants but no replacements on hand to be sure.
      I believe I saw you post a link to your electronic supplier somewhere? Can you repost that please? Mouser is good but sometimes a bit of a pain to find everything needed.

      @@LyonsArcade I Found the link to newark.com and found the correct mica caps. Having fun over here. May have to see if I can revive my dead Deluxe logic board too!

    Hey Joe
    My asteroids has the multi game kit installed and upon start up it is saying Ramsel Signal Failure. Do you know what that means and what I need to do to fix it?
    Thanks for any advice you can give me

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Před 5 lety +3

      Hi Ed; Most of those multigames were made by Braze, I've never messed with one but it sounds like it's doing a self test when it turns on, and figuring out that one of your Ram Select signals aren't working properly. You'd probably have to get in touch with the manufacturer to track down what that means, you can see their troubleshooting tips here: www.highscoresaves.com/braze_asteroids_multigame_installation_instructions

    Hi! We just picked up an asteroids machine (stand up). It has no video and emits a very low pitched hum/buzz when we plug it in. no idea where to even start looking for the problem. can you help? thanks! =)

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Před 5 lety +2

      First thing to do would be to take the back door off, and check all the fuses in the bottom on the power supply.

      Joe's Classic Video Games I think those all look good. I had looked at them earlier. I found another article suggesting the sound/regulator board may have a problem. I checked the +5v on that board and its producing 0.00 volts. I have a new 2n3055 on order right now. If that gets us back up and running, I am guessing there may be other issues as well. the 10.3v side of that transistor was producing 12.1 volts. thank you for your prompt reply!

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Před 5 lety +2

      Yes that sounds like what's going on to me too. You may have a resistor or something burnt up too breaking the line out...

      I just relocated my Asteroids machine to a new area. I have the same problem. All the lights work and there is a humming sound but no image on the screen at all. I found that the 3A fuse was blown. A new Set of five are on order. I know this post is five months old but I figured I'd chime in.
