Harvey Speaks! | A queer reading of "Harvey" (1950) | Culturally F'd

- We interview Harvey, the invisible pooka, and learn the intimate details of his relationship with Elwood P. Dowd. "Harvey" (1950) is a gay romance film and we have proof. It's about the systemic and institutionalized nature of homophobia of the 1940's and 50's but manages to tell its story subtly and around the restrictive Hayes Code. No one wants to talk about Harvey but Harvey lives with Elwood P. Dowd, complete with a couples portrait over the mantle. No one sees Harvey because homosexuality itself was invisible at the time under threat of prison or medical torture. In this video Harvey tells all himself, right from the pooka's mouth.
Rusty Shacklefur returns to Culturally F'd as "Harvey" from the play by Mary Chase turned into popular film starring James Stewart. With the voice of Dralen Dragonfox.

Enjoy the video? It would do us a big favour if you could SHARE it!
This was.....an amazing reimagining perspective of this story.
I had never even heard of this film ,but I feel like I learned something today!
Thanks dude!
This video is primed to be supressed by the homophobic algorithm (and a copyright notice) so it would do me a big big favour if you could share it.
Holy sh*t, that was absolutely amazing! Not just the message, but the consummate *professionalism* of the finished work; so many of these kind of pieces, furry or otherwise, never rise beyond fan-level execution.I hope you are able to find distribution for this video to film festivals, colleges, etc. - and furry conventions.
Glad you enjoyed it! There are no current plans to submit this to fests or tour to cons (fests have strict copyright rules, cons are expensive) but if you could help spread it to the community by sharing it, we would be very grateful.
I love this movie. This recontextualization of it is really fun.
Good quality and good job on the video narration and editing to make it an interview.
A suprise to be sure, but a welcome one
great video, really interesting perspective!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was fantastic!
Thank you very much!
I am surprised you didn’t make a video about All dogs go to heaven. Or did you?
Not yet! I think the only Bluth movie we've covered is Secret of NIMH
I imagine they cast someone like Jimmy with his trademark homespun midwestern innocence to offset any suspicions the audience might have had about Elwood.
On the other hand, I saw the production in NY with Jim Parsons, who is not only even more western than Jimmy, but also SO much gayer.
That's so cool, thanks for sharing!
I guess we can consider this one of the first fursuits?
LOL Check out our mini series "Fursuit History" for that! czcams.com/play/PLIPk-itLl1jNUiBkz0m6WGUYmvKfCGT6g.html
Harvey seems pretty swell
