You might want to remind people that the reason why there are no longer federal funds for mental health issues is because Reagan defunded mental health programs throughout the country in the 80’s. He said that the private sector would step in to assist states, but that didn’t happen because there wasn’t enough money in mental health programs. Instead the private sector started taking over and investing in senior and assisted living facilities where they could make a lot more money.
And that's why the street people thing exploded.

Fantastic interview by Seth. No ass kissing, straight up honest about the problems and successes California has. He wants an honest answer from a politician. Another reason Seth is the best one on TV right now.

Newsom is exactly right on at least one thing, It is a significant and increasing problem that we are basically living in parallel realities or echo chambers. We do need more conversations and debates across the aisle and props to him for saying it and doing it.

Absolutely. Something we have lost in this country is the ability to have a conversation of opposing views to debate important issues. I grew up with liberals and conservatives in the same house and the same family. It was never like this before. We have to get back to addressing important issues together to make any kind of real, important and lasting improvements.

Every time i hear of the latest GOP BS where a state takes more rights away, they always show a map of the states where those rights are protected. I am so proud that California is always lit up as a state that protects people's rights. This place can be damn expensive but that's a big point that keeps me from leaving.

it's rare to see optimism like this these days.
Homeless people have always migrated to southern states or California in the winter. As a child that lived on the Gulf Coast I remember seeing families in cars with plates from northern states, filling water jugs with water at gas stations water taps. My parents said they were living out of their cars. The point is that these states have to handle the poverty and homeless problems that migrate from the whole country.
We ship our homeless off to CA via greyhound bus.. I’ve seen several police officers do it .
And now, thanks to Biden, illegal immigrants, are displacing homeless in temp shelter hotels. Happening in NY state. .
Shipping them would technically be kidnapping. How do homeless migrate if they can't even feed themselves, money for gas and food?? These are the myths about homeless that need to stop so the issue can be addressed with real answers.

@@user-dv4qh2cz3x housing is incredibly expensive, especially if you are at the mercy of landlords & live-in motels. Homeless people hold jobs, buy food & pay for cars & gas. You can sleep in your car, you can't drive your house, and in many places you can't get anywhere without a car.
All of that to say, we still have lots of homeless people in the North. Including folks who live in tents or cars all winter. They either are unable to get to warmer states, have their support networks here, or just don't want to risk the journey. Homelessness takes many forms.
Have felt for a couple of years Newsom will be President come 2028. Thanks Gavin for standing up all the good Biden/Harris have done & more Democrats need to speak up on all the positives this government has achieved.

As someone who has lived in the Bay Area since 1987 I've followed Gavin forever, and have always been impressed with him. He is the policy wonk's policy wonk.
Good on him for addressing the mental health side of the homelessness problem, which has its origins back when Reagan defunded the mental hospitals and kicked most of the patients to the streets.
There's been a lot of pushback from advocates for the mentally ill, but it seems like Newsom's plans are protective of their rights as far as reason allows. As I said to a client at our small business today: we have a young mentally ill woman who hangs out in the area, who my wife has seen pushing shopping carts into traffic, and pushing newspaper boxes into the street. If I was caught doing that I'd be arrested, and if I was doing it repeatedly I'd be in jail. The homeless and mentally ill have human rights, but so do the rest of us, and theirs don't override ours.
The policies dont work and this slimy empty husk of a used car salesman who has run a miserably failed state has zero chance with the working class that will decide any general election in the purple states. If you want a sure-fire loss, by all means keep pushing the guy who has all the sincerity, appeal and the look of the villain from every 80s movie.

Jail is better than being homeless, hence the repeat offenders. But prison don't have the room to keep them .

He is very well spoken and he knows his state, the statistics, the issues, the ins and the outs. I think people have too much hate for him and it is rather unjust. He is honest and acknowledging the issues, doesn’t sugarcoat anything, and he said it, he owns it, all of it, the good and the bad.

This is misleading
In 45's first 2 years and 10 months, 6 million jobs were created. Then millions of jobs were lost because of 19.
During 46's presidency, after the breaking point (¹ when there were the same amount of jobs pre 19 )
,2years and 10 months later, only 4 million~ jobs were created.
¹ 46 shutting down construction of the pipeline cost 30,000 jobs, so saying "after all jobs lost from 19 were recovered" is misleading.

@@luke5100 He's doing a fantastic job! I don't see any issue at all with his age. His long experience in government and international relations is a major asset in all his successes. Putin actually wrote that no one should underestimate Biden and that he doesn't miss anything in negotiations, and in fact that he (Putin) had to watch out that he himself didn't miss anything when it comes to Biden. The issue of Biden's age is manufactured by the Republicans because they are desperate to find anything to complain about.

The main reason he is for a second Biden term is that he wants to run as president in 2028.
If they chose a new one he would not be able to do it.

I do think he would make a good president, but for 2024 he just does not have the support and notarie nation wide yet. What I would love to see is Biden run him as his VP for the 2024 election get him more national support and see how he handles more international politics.
We need ranked choice voting in every state so we don’t have to make silly choices like this. We can vote for people we actually like and the national results will average out in the moderate progressive range.
Anyway, Biden is GENUINELY an extremely good President. I’m pretty excited about his second term.

The one question that Newsom could have performed a little better on was when Hannity showed the graphic of California's "higher taxes" compared to Florida. At the bottom of the graph with an asterisk it stated, "One individuals with an income of over $1.5 million". That was the qualifier that made the accusation a farce. How does that compare with the average American's salary? The fact is that's $60,000. Okay, I'll be honest, someone making $1.5 million needs to pay more taxes.

More politicians need to call out the crazy and stop the negative bias. The stakes are really high. Seth may have gotten irritated with too much Biden, but the message needs to be repeated.

Democrats are just terrible at messaging. We have very few like Newsome. Guys like Brian Tyler Cohen speak well but their platform is too small. We are 11 months out and Democrats need to be hitting the colleges, universities and right wing media sooner than later.

Im a homeless veteran who lives in San Diego.
I've been to Town Hall meetings in Chula vista and talked about homelessness. They said i had good ideas, but there wasn't any political will to implement them.
I've talked to Kamala Harris twice at San Diego stand down for homeless veterans. She said she was too high up on the ladder to help when she was a senator.
Gavin talks a big talk but said nothing. Cities move homeless people around and tell them to be homeless somewhere else.
Sooo many issues that are not really addressed. It's why I have given up on life sometimes and think about the end of life alternatives.

Currently I'm going to truck driving school, lost 40 lbs and trying to stay positive at the age of 63. I work out almost every day ( deadlifting 380 lbs).
I hope to save money and look presentable so I can do something for the homeless politically and raise some money and awareness for my ideas.
I just hope my mental illness ( depression and anxiety ) doesn't overwhelm me.
So tired of politicians showing up for photo ops and building themselves up. That's what I saw in this interview.
Oh, I've even talked to another senator and the mayor of San Marcos, Rebecca Jones. Interesting conversation. She said there is no homelessness in her city anymore.
I asked her why isn't she helping other mayors with advice. She said because, part of the problem is that she's a woman. I must take her at her word, because I really don't know San Marcos politics. She seemed earnest.
We live in one of the best countries in the world, I live in one of the richest states in the country, and I live in the 3rd biggest county or city in California which is Chula Vista but it seems like greed and self interest wins over people's welfare. No homeless reforms of any note or significance in Chula.
At least not in the poor side of our city.
I'm sad 😢, I feel so unheard and insignificant. I feel like the rich don't care, and the poor are giving up. I don't know if that's the majority of America, but it's what I see from the streets.
