Literally the worst evolutionary trait you could possibly imagine.
How are you
May Alger 🇩🇿
This condition would've been long gone if humans didn't raise goats. They would've been eliminated pretty easily.
Imagine a pack of wolves attacking a herd but the ones with that condition just freezes
It's not an evolutionary trait, it's a disorder, look it up.

You might think this is a disadvantage against predators. But it actually fools them into thinking they're a stuffed animal.
Musika Fura actually they get eaten...bred to die for the horde of goats.
Musika Fura No. when goats are in the wild they can get scared causing their muscle to get tight and they are paralyzed for a short amount of time
Yes because predators absolutely know what a stuffed animal is
why does nobody on CZcams know what a joke is
Well, no. These are myotonic goats, and they have a pretty high disadvantage against predators, the reason why there's many is because they were selectively bred on farms because myotonic goats are way easier to maintain, if they attempt to make a high jump their muscles will seize and cause them to "faint" so they can't climb onto a fence or be allowed to run far enough, that's the genetic condition of myotonia congenita. This breed of goats would hardly survive if spotted by a predator
Imagine that you just sneeze and your goat fainted from it. That'd be funny as hell. 🤣🤣🤣
That last goat was funny, that lady was so sweet to him
To understand what happens when a myotonic goat is frightened and faints, it's helpful to first take a look at what happens under normal conditions. If a person were to chase after a goat unaffected by myotonia congenita, the animal's eyes and ears would relay the perceived threat to the brain, which would then send an electrical signal to the skeletal muscles (such as those in the leg and neck involving voluntary movement), causing a momentary tensing. This is often referred to as the fight or flight response.
Just think how it feels to be startled, or have a friend remind you. You'll find your voluntary muscles contract and tighten for a second. This is your brain telling your muscles that the time has come to possibly confront or run away from an immediate threat.
Normally, this tensing is followed by an immediate relaxing of the affected muscles, allowing a typical goat to actually turn and run away from a perceived threat. With myotonia congenita, however, the muscles tense and stay tensed before slowly relaxing. Think about that moment of muscle tension following a sudden fright -- now imagine it lasting 10 to 20 seconds.
Due to abnormalities at the cellular level, the voluntary muscles of myotonic animals receive the electric signal from the brain to tense and keep tensing instead of releasing -- sort of like a skipping record.
Source : Animals. How stuff works.
A myotonic goat, otherwise known as the fainting goat, is a domestic goat whose muscles freeze for roughly 3 seconds when the goat feels panic. Though painless, this generally results in the animal collapsing on its side. The characteristic is caused by a hereditary genetic disorder called myotonia congenita. When startled, younger goats will stiffen and fall over. Older goats learn to spread their legs or lean against something when startled, and often they continue to run about in an awkward, stiff-legged shuffle.

this is exactly how it is when you're being chased in a dream
Or when you have sleep paralysis. That's happened to me a couple of times. I'll be lying in bed, about to fall asleep and suddenly my body tenses to the point that I can barely move, a hollow ringing starts pounding away in my ears and my mind starts conjuring up terrifying, realistic, nightmarish visions of what I fear most. Sometimes I can snap myself out of it but there are times when I just have to endure.

Yes, and some of the clips are examples of the type of benign actions (on the human's part) that you mention, while plenty are obvious intentional attempts to startle them.
My Channel yeah people do that to people all time except it's worse
actually you dumbass theyre breed to faint so when predators go to kill their goats it passes out letting the others to escape
Is it just me or this is kinda annoying to read, no spaced commas. Like, this. Yeah I understand, you have a point.
This is hilarious, you are all being too sensitive. It is just a muscle tension they get when excited or afraid and cannot untense. It does not hurt them so why shouldn't we get a good laugh out of it?
because the small goat is paralyzed and helpless and knows it is easy prey for anyone or any thing that wants to hurt it or kill it. how about we taser you and throw you in the tiger's pen and see how you feel while you are down and helpless ?

Some people scare them just for the laughs. But these goats panic and fall. Although it is painless for them, it’s still so cruel to see someone laugh at something that looks so helpless. 😢
@@EdLove is it really that serious? no pain is felt. only a spook for a second then they are perfectly fine

That's both funny (though at those goats' expense), and fascinating in how a small change in the genome can create an organism, that more or less functions and looks normally, but has weird quirks. Also, weirdly enough, I got here from a video about the my little pony show, since there was a running gag based on this condition.

The genetic mutation first occured in the American South (in Tennessee). There's a great coffee shop in Spring Hill, Tennessee that's actually called The Fainting Goat 😁
The types of goats that faint are called myotonic goats, and it's a hereditary disorder in which all their muscles become stiff and unresponsive. However, the disorder does not cause any long-term impairment, and goats with this disorder can live as long and as healthy as any other goat.

The “Goatality” video was livestreamed on the Washington Post’s Facebook page Aug. 21 from a fainting goats farm in Tennessee. Although none of the goats fainted, they were still pretty cute to watch. But what’s not so cute are some of the following facts about fainting goats.
1. Fainting goats are bred to have a genetic disorder, called myotonia congenita, that affects their skeletal muscles. Their legs become paralyzed for a few seconds if they’re startled.
2. The breed dates back to the 1880s, when a farmer named John Tinsley brought four goats suffering from myotonia to Dr. H.H. Mayberry, in Tennessee, who began breeding them and called them “Tennessee fainting goats.”
3. However, the name “fainting goat” is a misnomer since the goats don’t lose consciousness when they “faint.”
4. Does falling over hurt them? Not at all, said Carol Ellis, owner of Goat Flower Farm in Lancaster, Penn., in a 2014 “Good Morning America” segment about fainting goats. “It’s completely muscular. It doesn’t affect any other system.”

Mix these guys with some of those screaming goats, and you have a recipe for endless hilarity.
I love goats, they are so cute and silly.
the goats aren't passing out from fright. The Tennessee fainting goat breed has a hereditary condition called myotonia congenita, a disorder that affects the skeletal muscles, which are used for movement. When the muscles are voluntarily contracted, such as in the act of running away from a potential threat, the relaxation of the muscle can be delayed. This leaves the muscles rigid and renders the animal unable to move.
