What will we say of Israel when enough time has passed to reflect soberly upon what was done? What museum will house the ephemera of how many tens of thousands of massacred Palestinians, putting their decimation in perspective? Glazer dares to ask these questions now, while our own media still spins an alternate take that attempts to justify the unjustifiable, as we go about the banality of our own lives on the other side of the wall. Bravo to him.
I agree. But this - "History has made clear how comparably insignificant this "massacre" of German innocents remains" - I think this is teetering on the very mindset the film is trying to combat. Why must you deemphasise the killing of these children? In one scene a plume of smoke in Berlin oddly mirrors those we see in shots of Auschwitz. Underneath the smoke a mutilated soldier is thrilled by the marching music from the bandstand - Rudolf and the Nazis, arguably many Germans, were as oblivious to the suffering of "their own people" as to the suffering they enacted. That's why we hear about the school bombing on the radio, their meaningless deaths are transformed into a tool to further fuel the war. We, or "history", must not squash one injustice for comparison's sake. We must not dehumanise, as Glazer says.
Truly brave man. Will watch his film, for sure. #1 on my watchlist. He is speaking for both the victims and relatives of the people who died on Oct 7th and for the 30,000 civilians and 10,000 children who have died needlessly in Gaza. The perpetrators of atrocities on both sides have dehumanised the other side. That is his message. No matter how much you hate or oppose the other side, no matter your thirst for vengeance - don’t fall into the trap of dehumanising your opponent completely. Saw the film for a second time last night Glazer truly made an incredible film, that put me in a trance and shook me to my core Sandra and Christian were just incredible, what makes this film so horrifying is how everything is seen as so normal and when you realize what these people are doing is chilling, instead of using graphic imagery he lets our ears hear everything making it more uncomfortable and uneasy, thank you Jonathan for the film and this speech.
This will come to haunt him. My mother's uncle also thought that if he'd just assimilate enough... but it didn't help him. But I think he knows how twisted his speech is, otherwise he wouldn't be trembling like this.

Making blanket statements about "terrorism" does nothing to minimize the reality of what's being done to a staggering number of innocent Palestinians in retaliation. In light of these present atrocities, Glazer's film does indeed remind us how history repeats itself not only in this modern genocide but in the rhetoric and mindset of those who would defend it. In the film, there is a scene in which a German radio broadcast condemns the "massacre" of "innocent" Germans at a school, rallying the German people in their fight against "the other." To the Germans, such an event could easily be used to justify the Nazi's campaign of unspeakable violence (in "self defense," etc). History, however, has made clear how comparably insignificant this "massacre" of German innocents remains in light of what we now understand to be a reprehensible genocide waged for a "cause" that seems so unjustifiable in retrospect. What will we say of Israel when enough time has passed to reflect soberly upon what was done? What museum will house the ephemera of how many tens of thousands of massacred Palestinians, putting their decimation in perspective? Glazer dares to ask these questions now, while our own media still spins an alternate take that attempts to justify the unjustifiable, as we go about the banality of our own lives on the other side of the wall. Bravo to him.

- I think this is teetering on the very mindset the film is trying to combat. Why must you deemphasise the killing of these children? In one scene a plume of smoke in Berlin oddly mirrors those we see in shots of Auschwitz. Underneath the smoke a mutilated soldier is thrilled by the marching music from the bandstand - Rudolf and the Nazis, arguably many Germans, were as oblivious to the suffering of "their own people" as to the suffering they enacted. That's why we hear about the school bombing on the radio, their meaningless deaths are transformed into a tool to further fuel the war.
We, or "history", must not squash one injustice for comparison's sake. We must not dehumanise, as Glazer says.

Truly brave man. Will watch his film, for sure. #1 on my watchlist. He is speaking for both the victims and relatives of the people who died on Oct 7th and for the 30,000 civilians and 10,000 children who have died needlessly in Gaza. The perpetrators of atrocities on both sides have dehumanised the other side. That is his message. No matter how much you hate or oppose the other side, no matter your thirst for vengeance - don’t fall into the trap of dehumanising your opponent completely. Because then you fall into the abyss, you lose your moral ground. You become worse than your enemy. Which is what Israel’s government and military has done by retaliating to the very extreme. They have now become as detestable as Hamas- no better, no worse, and no different. They had an option to show some restraint. But they decided to walk with the devil. Good luck to them with regaining their image in the eyes of those under age 30, for the next 25-50 years now.

Saw the film for a second time last night Glazer truly made an incredible film, that put me in a trance and shook me to my core Sandra and Christian were just incredible, what makes this film so horrifying is how everything is seen as so normal and when you realize what these people are doing is chilling, instead of using graphic imagery he lets our ears hear everything making it more uncomfortable and uneasy, thank you Jonathan for the film and this speech.
