  • Hey guys. Just wanted to share my review of the honda
    metropolitan scooter. #honda #scooter #moped #50cc #review
    (I mention that you do not need to have a license or registration to drive the moped. That is just the state that I am from, your state's laws may vary, I recommend looking it up.)

It's only a couple hundred $$$ more, it's almost the same size, but it goes 20 mph faster, has a front disc brake, is carbureted instead of computerized, and quality seems better as well.

    @AndreasWeberling Před rokem +7

    As a german I have to say I am pretty jealous about your scooter laws. Here you either need a standard driving license or a special license for scooters. Also 50cc scooters are not allowed to go over 28 miles per hour, which even in the city is a bit too slow. Oh and of course you need an insurance.

    • @kkd-sw2zm
      @kkd-sw2zm  Před rokem +1

      28 MPH? Well around here 38mph is still a bit slow but its fast enough for me. Also if you want your moped to go faster you could just take the speed governor off of your moped, but I don't know if you want to make a possibly illegal modification to your moped/scooter. (assuming you own one)

    • @AndreasWeberling
      @AndreasWeberling Před rokem +5

      @@kkd-sw2zm I acctually think 38 mph is the perfect 50cc scooter speed but I imagine that in the US there are probably larger and faster roads because the distances are longer. I did exactly that and my scooter ended up going 43 mph (it's a two stroke) but because that's very illegal I now extended my car license to legally drive a 125cc scooter. Now I can even go on the Autobahn so if I get lost and suddenly find myself on the Autobahn it's no big Problem ^^ I once did go the wrong way and ended up on a semi-Autobahn with 28 mph and I couldn't turn around... that was shit haha

      All states have their own laws. In California, you must have a M1 motorcycle license to operate any 50cc or higher ‘scooter’. For actual stand up rental scooters such as Lime or Dualtron, you need a regular class C License.

  • @geraldscott4302
    @geraldscott4302 Před rokem +2

    AZ requires a full motorcycle endorsement, registration, plate, and insurance. Pretty much all states do now. A 50cc scooter is pretty much worthless if you live in a city, other than on 25 mph residential streets. You will get crushed like a bug on streets with a speed limit of 45 mph, where the average speed is 60 mph. They make good pit bikes, and if you live out in the country you might find a place to ride them. I have ridden them on the shoulders of country roads, where bicyclists ride.
    By the way, that is NOT a moped. It is a scooter. A moped has both a 50cc engine AND pedals. The word MOPED actually means MOtor and PEDals. Real mopeds look like small motorcycles with no bodywork. My 1980 Puch Maxi is a MOPED

    • @kkd-sw2zm
      @kkd-sw2zm  Před rokem +1

      in the state where I reside, registration and insurance aren't required for 50cc mopeds/scooters, I understand that it may be a different situation in other states like Arizona where a full motorcycle endorsement, registration, plate, and insurance are necessary. However, living in my state means that we have the freedom to ride our 50cc scooters without the extra hassle and cost of registering and insuring them.
      Although a 50cc scooter may not be the most practical option for navigating cities, there are plenty of other areas where they can still be utilized effectively and safely, including rural roads and areas with a speed limit of 40-50. Additionally, it's worth noting that while a scooter without pedals may not technically qualify as a "moped", the two terms are often used interchangeably in everyday conversation.
      So while I can appreciate the perspective of someone from a state with stricter regulations on 50cc scooters, living in my state provides a different experience where we can enjoy the convenience and freedom of riding these vehicles without the extra burden of regulations.

    Got my wife a new earlier model Metro scooter. She loved it. It averaged 114 mpg. That one was water cooled. I believe the new version is air cooled? By the way, I consider a kick starter as a backup, to be mandatory. You can't bump start a scooter with a CVT transmission. I also prefer air cooling due to the added complexity of water cooling. Thermostat, electric fan and switch, hoses, radiator, water pump. Just my opinion.

    At 0:07 - in California you will still need a motorcycle driving license, license plate, and vehicle registration. Understandably, 50cc scooters are not particularly popular here as people would rather just start at 150cc and up. On the other hand if you're a DIY capable person and sort of enjoy getting your hands dirty then you can *buy* a used 50cc scooter here for almost nothing as they are so undesirable. FYI - I've been riding motorcycles for years and of course I have a motorcycle license.

    • @kkd-sw2zm
      @kkd-sw2zm  Před rokem

      That makes sense in California. Where I live the laws around 50cc mopeds are a lot less strict. So to a lot of people think the 50cc moped is a good idea if you don't have much money. And I can understand why the moped won't make much sense in California, as the roads have a lot more going on then the roads around where I live. And the extra speed of a 150cc or 300cc Moped/Motorcycle just make more sense for the faster roads.

But if you live in a place where you could comfortably do food delivery on a petal bike, you could probably use a metropolitan.
