- Bamburgh Castle is located on the Northeast coast of England near the village of Bamburgh in Northumberland. It is a Grade 1 listed building which means is has been placed on a statutory list maintained by Historic England.
It was most recently featured on the Netflix Movie, "The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die". It will also be featured in the upcoming Indiana Jones film. It was also a featured location in the Starz and Netflix TV series "Outlander."
Prior to Bamburgh Castle being built, the site was the location of a Celtic Brittonic fort called Din Guarie. The fort was founded sometime between 420 to 547. The fort passed from control of the Britons and the Anglo-Saxons several times and finally rested in control of the Anglo-Saxons in 590. It was destroyed by the Vikings in 993. Eventually the Normans built a castle on this site which became the core of Bamburgh Castle. It became property of the English monarch after a revolt in 1095.
It deteriorated during the 17th century and was restored by several owners during the 18th and 19th centuries. Victorian era industrialist William Armstrong bought the castle in 1894 and completed restoration.
It continues to be owned by the Armstrong family to this day. Francis Watson-Armstrong is the current owner or preservationist of this castle. It first opened to the public in the 1900's.
If you would like to visit the castle, ticketing information can be found on their official website: www.bamburghcastle.com/

who is here after watching Last Kingdom?
🖐️
👋👋
Me.
Me!!!
Me 😊
The real castle's appearance at the end of "seven Kings must die" had me feeling oddly patriotic as well as slightly upset to see the series end.
Oddly patriotic? Pride in your culture? You imply England produced riches and blessings for many?
Are you native to the Babbenburg?
This structure is amazing. "The building’s upkeep costs hundreds of thousands of pounds each year and it is entirely dependent on visitors, weddings, events and self-catering accommodation within the estate. Ten private apartments are also rented out to long-term residents, with another let as a holiday home." Can you imaging rolling up to this Castle and telling your date that yeah, this is where I live lol.....
that would be cool!
Uthred walked this piece of land. I wish to visit this one day.
uthred is a fiction tho, inspired from a boring man called uthred yes, but have nothing to do with the one on the tv show
@@jayceontalylor4244 yes you are correct. The way I understand is, Uhtred is an embodiment of the force of change by unsung warriors and advisors whose efforts were ridden by kings who wrote History.
They have costumes from the last kingdom and some other props in the main hall at moment. Visited today.
That is awesome!
My father and his sister lived in the castle during WW2 being evacuated there after their brother died as a result of the bombing of Newcastle we often visited people in the castle when I was a kid in the sixties.
Amazing!
Passed it today on the way up to Scotland. Beautiful part of England
Totally agree!
wow...amazing restoration...bravo to the owner...did an great honor in preserving history
Couldn’t agree more!
How does one keep this type of property in the family for generations and letting the planet access to visit … ?? When I think about this I am carried away. May God bless all the owners so far for not only thinking about themselves. This is beautiful . Who can I go with to visit ? I’m from Africa. And I leave in Cameroon😊
The Last Kingdom fans here.....
Yup just finished watching “Seven kings must Die”. Amazing Movie😭🙌
@@Beastmodejh yeah... Uhtred gone to Valhalla. Destiny is all.
😂😂 Of course
Arslings unite!
The Las kingdom. Pelicula completa
I was hoping to see a painting of Uthred. After all, it was he’s castle.
None that I saw.
This looks like an amazing place and like everyone else I'm here after watching The Last Kingdom. I wish we had something like this on our west coast, I'm from Denmark, but we don't have castles situated this close to the beach and with that view.
Amazing location for sure.
Well, Danes made their mark here too - the "geordie" accent of this Northumbrian area has a number of Danish phrases in it - and most of we geordies aren't aware. "Gan Yem" for Go home for example
Spectacular castle...spectacular video! Great job!
Wow, thanks so much!
Great video thanks!
Glad you liked it!
On a historic note, the original castle was already in excess of 400 years old before the time of Uhtred, who actually had a very limited historical impact. Just a note to foreign visitors: its pronounced Bam-brer and not Bam- ber-er
Was here a couple of weeks ago, it's an amazing castle in an amazing part of our country.
Really enjoyed the video 👍🏻
It really is! Glad you enjoyed it!
me. after watching Last kingdom serious and seven kings must die
Very nice - very good information on the history & each part of the castle - thank you !
Thanks so much Veronica!
I came know this beautiful castle and history written after watching the movie ' The kingdom - Seven king must die'. Its amazing loved it and experienced it.
I love that show. I watched it a few times. Beautiful castle. My Nana used to live in Newcastle. My Dad is also from Newcastle.
So cool!
The castle has a number of apartments which are on a lease, i was lucky enough to reside in the castle for several years and boy or boy the wind does how off the sea, visit the pub opposite the castle, during the summer enjoy a pint and watch the cricket match.....so many memories
What an amazing experience!
Very cool. What were the circumstances of you residing there?
Good afternoon, guys, you have very good castles in England!!! The Last Kingdom is just a great series!!! Greetings from the Chechen Republic!
It would be great to have you visit and have a nice time 👍 The area is oddly tourist free, mainly English and Scots - locals
@@PhilK114 Someday, it's a dispossessed! I'm from Russia myself, I'm a Chechen! But I really love these series historical English👍🏻 I'm a fan of FC Chelsea, I really want to visit Stamford Bridge
Great video. Your children are lovely and so well behaved ❣️ Cheers.

Wonderful narrative. Thank you for making me wish to visit.

Beautiful .
My family moved from this area into Scotland around the 8th century.
Very cool!
So you're dane

Nice Video thanks. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
Awesome video.
Glad you enjoyed it
There have been excavations inside Bamburgh & outside on the Dunes. Burials were found in the Dunes, but cant remember how old they are.
Wow!
I was there last year Beautiful
Agree!
One of the best castles I've been to
Couldn’t agree more!
Watched the Macbeth (2015) with David Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Bamburgh castle is credited at the film end.
Interesting.
Our human history is filled with so many countless powerful men and women leaders who once lived im glad to be alive in such a time to see and hear their mark they left on history long lived uthred and the movie depicting his history (7 kings must die) was awesome i love history REAL HISTORY.
King Oswald of Northumbria was the man Tolkein based Aragorn on, and Martin's Game of Thrones were sparked by this area and the Roman (Hadrians) Wall
With this video, I can visualize as I don't have the means to go there.
Interesting video.
Glad you think so!
God Save The King.
Long Live The King.
I hope someday I visit England
Great video liked and subscribed 🙂 I fly too. Greetings from Poland.
Thanks for the sub!
Beautiful place to visit, but take note that Northumberland council do not welcome campervans and motorhomes unfortunately.
That is too bad.
Here after 7KMD ❤
"Destiny is all!!"
Fantastic video! We're heading there in 2 weeks from Utah USA. How much time should we plan on spending at Bamburgh? We're also heading to Alnwick - Is it feasible to do both castles in the same day?
We spent about 3 hours there. I wish I knew about Alnwick. It is only 27 minutes from here. You could definitely do both in a day.
Cool
Thanks!
Cbbc’s Tv Show „World’s End” was filmed there! 💙
Cool!
me im gonna go there in the near future.
I enjoyed this video! I recently found out that King James V is my 13th Great Grandfather!!
Very cool!
👍🏰
Great video! I am going in 3 weeks. Have a question for you…on their website it says I can’t prebook tickets bc I don’t have a UK address. Was it difficult to get in? Long queues? Any advice would be amazing!
I think I just used a friends address. Honestly, I don’t recall.
Wow
Totally agree!
Straight away after Seven Kings must Die
My family held this castle for nearly 500 years until 1700. When Ser William Foster bankrupted us.
Wow,‘interesting.
I’ve been exploring my family history, your relatives seem to be my relatives!
My dad and his sister lived in the castle after they were evacuated there in 1941 after their brother died in the bombing of Newcastle they were there until the end of the war.
@@hannahsadventures14 really that's very interesting !
Lord Uthred! 😢
I've never visited Bamburgh Castle
You gotta go!
Thank you for the great introduction! I expected just a lazy compilation of photos, so am very surprised to have discovered a good video and an excellent commentary! Fabulous find - thank you!
Wow, great compliment! Thanks so much!!!
@@Photasma No, thank You! I'm so fed up with "home grown" videos when searching for some info on places: either brainless video recording while walking around (I see that type of 'camera men' all the time and wonder: what on earth for?!) or dead photos with some odd music... Therefore, was quite happy to discover your brilliant work 😀
@@user-nw3yk7qj1j I do this mainly as a hobbyist, not a full timer. I really appreciate your comments!
Uhtred would be proud 💪🏼💪🏼

The last kingdom from the series the firts viking who was raize as a. British he was the firts owner of branburch castle theres any history of him base on the movie?
Not sure, we went there before the movie came out.
No talk of Uthred of Bebbenburg?
I was interested in googleing Ukhtred, but the Google doesn't say about his feat victories, why is that?
Because they were never written in the chronicle
Tis a shame they haven't restored Krak des Chevaliers to look like Bamburgh Castle.
All hail king uhtred of bebbanburg the king maker the dane slayer and the greatest worrier

Are you allowed to touch everything there all I seen was everyone touching everything
Not sure. If really valuable, things are behind glass.
lol Babenberg castle is in Austria, not England!
Bamburgh Castle’s name in old English in Saxon times was Bebbanburg after the Saxon Queen Bebba
@@dickdastardly1883 You're saying Austrians are British?
@@Flat_Earth_Addy. Seriously, are you for real …. Bamburgh castle was called Bebbanburg over 1,000 years ago, and it’s name was derived from queen Bebba (Bebbanburg). Bamburgh is it’s modern pronunciation….so how the hell is this saying Austrians are British. What’s hard to understand ??? Many modern towns/places today had a totally different name going back over the centuries. Take York in England. Romans called it Eboracum..the Angles/Saxons called it Eoforwic..the Vikings conquered it and renamed it Yorvik…the modern name York derives from.
