When the movie ended, I realised that Ajay Devgn is the unsung hero of Bollywood. The man deserves so much more respect for having such range in terms of playing characters from Bhagat Singh to Singham to Syed Abdul Rahim. Devgn has truly done what Akshay Kumar could never do.

I really don't understand what Indian audiences really want in terms of content.. I never felt Maidaan was long or boring.. The slow burn treatment was necessary so that we as an audience feel the emotional impact at the climax.. The football matches were shot so brilliantly and inventively you feel that you are actually in a football field watching the match.. The choice of song at the very end and the fact that the team even didn't realize that they had won! My God those last few minutes made me cry like a baby in the theater.. If this movie fails at the box office, I feel something is just not right with Indian audiences.. Bollywood has made some good movies this year like Laapataa Ladies, Madgaon Express and Maidaan yet the halls are empty.. Baffling! 😢😢

Ajay sir shines as Syed Abdul Rahim as a man who's done it all, A.R. Rahman's music elevates you and makes you root for Indian football team and when you've finally finished watching it, despite you being or not being a football fan, you'll only have pride in India and sheer reverence for Syed Abdul Rahim: the man behind it all!

Ajay Devgn's supremacy is not just in playing different characters, but also being able to seamlessly play similar characters differently. A police officer in Singham is different than Amit Kumar in Gangajal. An underworld don in Once Upon a time in Mumbai is different than company's Malik. Around same time he played "simple man" in HDDC, Zakhm and Raincoat, but you will not find even a glimpse of Vanraj in Raincoat or Zakhm.
