The BMW G 310 GS is a lightweight adventure motorcycle produced by BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle division of BMW. It is designed for riders who are looking for a versatile and agile motorcycle that can handle both urban commuting and off-road adventures. Here are some key features and specifications of the BMW G 310 GS:
    1. Engine: The G 310 GS is powered by a 313cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It delivers a maximum power output of 34 horsepower and has a torque of 28 Nm. The engine is designed for smooth power delivery and good fuel efficiency.
    2. Design: The G 310 GS features a rugged and compact design, with a tall windshield, high front fender, and long-travel suspension. It has an upright seating position, providing comfort for long rides and good visibility in traffic.
    3. Chassis and Suspension: The motorcycle uses a tubular steel frame for stability and durability. It has a long-travel suspension system with 41mm upside-down forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear, providing good off-road capability and handling.
    4. Wheels and Tires: The G 310 GS comes with spoked wheels, which are better suited for off-road riding. It has a 19-inch wheel at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the rear. The motorcycle is equipped with dual-purpose tires that offer good grip on both paved and unpaved surfaces.
    5. Brakes: It features a single-disc brake with a four-piston caliper at the front and a single-disc brake with a single-piston caliper at the rear, providing adequate stopping power.
    6. Electronics: The G 310 GS includes modern electronics such as an LCD instrument cluster that displays all the necessary information, including speed, rpm, fuel level, gear indicator, and more. It also has an optional anti-lock braking system (ABS) for enhanced safety.
    7. Fuel Capacity: The fuel tank has a capacity of approximately 11 liters (2.9 gallons), allowing for decent range between fuel stops.
The BMW G 310 GS is a popular choice for entry-level adventure riders or those who prefer a smaller and more manageable motorcycle for their everyday adventures. It offers a good balance of on-road comfort and off-road capability, making it suitable for a variety of riding conditions.

My '21 G310GS is my 11th bike in 52 years of riding. It is my daily rider. No issues with side stand, battery, ANYTHING. Light, frugal, cheap to insure and gets me anywhere on highway or off-road. Great presence on the road, looks like a much bigger bike.

Hi there, thanks for the video. I have my 310GS for about 6 months now and just did over 2000km. Ride both on and off road and also flat out on the freeway with fully loaded top and side boxes. This bike is super impressive for a 310.
The vibrations at about 4000rpm in 1st and 2nd seem to damper down as the mileage increases….

It's a really interesting bike, reviews from Nathan Millward are saying the new one is a big improvement over the old. This has been used by wildlens by Abrar to go all over the world, from Germany to Pakistan, toured Pakistan now he's in the middle East. Performed very well, my take is it's the servicing and parts where you pay the premium for the badge. I think they charged him 50-70? Dollars for lubing the chain in the service in Saudi Arabia...but all dealers are like that I suppose. Really interesting, if I was an A2 I'd definitely have it on the list! You seem well impressed with the small GS, ER. I suppose like most manufactured items you can get the Friday night or Monday morning product. An acquaintance bought a 310 GS which spent most of its time at the dealers. When he did manage to venture out on it it fell over onto a grassy verge and, believe it or not, twisted the forks. He sold it and told me it was the biggest pile of SH-ONE-T he had ever owned. A good in depth review on your part as usual, ER.

1:00 - The LED headlight doesn't have an incandescent filament and doesn't need to be shock mounted. I replaced the halogen headlight in my 2019 G310GS with a very bright LED headlight and I removed the rubber mounts at the same time, replacing them with stainless fender washers to rigidly mount the LED headlight so it doesn't have that very annoying (and potentially dangerous) flicker.
6:15 - I agree that BMW marketing considers the G310GS as a beginner bike to get new riders on the upgrade path to a more expensive BMW bike, and that's a shame. Many older riders don't want a big behemoth bike., and older riders usually have more discretionary income. BMW should make a lightweight but full featured premium ADV bike, but the BMW Motorrad marketing department is focused on selling young people their first motorcycle and they aren't interested in selling pensioners their last motorcycle.
11:20 - The first G310GS model year was 2017, so it's been around for seven years, not ten years. Also, the scrolling specs earlier in the video claimed a 12L fuel capacity and it's actually 11 liters.
It's interesting that you complain about the fork dive from the soft suspension but repeatedly praise the G310GS for the soft suspension that eats up bumps on the road. I love the soft and fairly long travel suspension. If I was younger and rode hard off road, I'd have a proper dual sport with longer and stiffer suspension, but the G310GS suspension is great for road riding and mild off road. It's possible to ride over logs and ruts off road but not at high speed.
I love the baby GS. Based on the number I'm seeing and the fact that BMW doesn't seem to be promoting it at all lately, I conclude that the G310GS is a big seller for BMW Motorrad. I wish they'd introduce an upscale G310GS Adventure with a 5 gallon fuel tank, aluminum bash plate, engine protection bars, larger and more aggressive off road foot pegs, tubeless spoke wheels, and maybe some common add-ons such as a dual high current USB charging port, windshield, folding mirrors, hand protecting brush guards, heated grips, larger foot on the kickstand, etc. Of all of my wish list, the larger fuel tank was the only thing I was unable to find in the after market, although I kept the original alloy wheels which are fine for the old man riding that I do.

Thanks for your views, just so you know as I understand it, BMW started selling/importing these in 2012 but they were withdrawn due to quality issues with the bike manufacturers, So there was a slow time for 2 years while that was ironed out. Then slow drip fed back in again but still wasn't sorted until about 2016 ish but then only gave them a push from 2018 or so onwards. It was a messy start, then of course we had the side stand recalls along the way. Thanks for watching.

@@exeterrider - Soon after posting, I read on Wikipedia that the TVS early prototype version of the G310GS was the K03 in 2013, and the bike went into early production in Brazil as the G310GS Stunt, but I'm not sure if either of those are what you are referring to as a 2012 version that was withdrawn. It's also not unusual for Wikipedia to be wrong.
However you slice it, the G310GS had a rocky start for sure. I got a good deal on my 2019 G310GS because it was one of the new bikes that was recalled for the kickstand issue as well as possibly a stator issue. It was returned to the dealer late in 2020 a few months before the 2021 models were to be released with some improvements such as LED lighting and a slipper clutch, but also full time ABS that can't be turned off so I'm glad to have the 2019, and doubly glad to have gotten $1400 knocked off the price. My three year factory warranty only has a couple of more months left on it and it's been 100% trouble free. After the rocky start, the G310GS seems to be a big hit for BMW. It's an affordable Do It All bike that's fun and confidence inspiring. It's not my perfect bike, but it suits my needs and wants better than any other bike I've seen. On the few occasions I've ridden on the interstate it would be nice if it was a 400 or 450 cc bike, but mostly I just wish it had a 5 gallon fuel tank. Everything else I wanted was fairly easy to upgrade with after market parts.

@@exeterrider - In the US, BMW Motorrad doesn't seem to market the G310GS at all. I assume that's because it's selling itself and doesn't need any marketing, or they don't want G310GS sales to compete with their larger ADV bikes. Their marketing efforts are aimed at moving the R18 freight train and their electric scooters. We're told the new CE02 isn't a scooter. "It's an eParkourer." I guess marketing research indicated that most people aren't going to pay US$10,000 for a scooter, but at least it's thousands of dollars less than the more capable CE04. I love BMW design and manufacturing but I hate their marketing. Their ads barely show a quick glimpse of the bike. The lifestyle ads focus on sexy fun young people dancing and inline skating through edgy urban architecture.
My other issue with BMW marketing is their ADV focus. They see the G310GS as a beginner bike in western countries. Their goal is to get beginning riders onto the baby GS so they can up sell them on an 850GS in a couple of years and a 1300GS as soon as the last payment is made on the 850GS. Small lightweight adventure bikes are ideal for older riders who typically have more disposable income, but BMW Motorrad's marketing department doesn't want to sell me the last bike I'll ever buy regardless of the profit margin. They're too busy marketing to young riders who can be exploited for future sales. This isn't exclusively a BMW problem. It seems that all motorcycle manufacturers see their small ADV bikes as a way to leverage customers into a proper full size adventure bike, even though the G310GS is easier to ride off road where most of us dream of adventure. At least we finally have small ADV bikes as of the last decade. I've been wanting a lightweight ADV bike since the mid 1970s.
I wish BMW made a G310GS Adventure, with a 5 gallon (19 liter) fuel tank, aluminum bash plate, engine protection bars, fully adjustable front and rear suspension and tubeless spoke wheels. That would probably add less than $400 to their cost and I'd pay $1500 more for that bike... and maybe $2000 more.

I have ridden all three...I own a 2014 G 650 GS and test rode the 2023 G 310 GS yesterday and the 310 R the day before. The 650 GS is a much more powerful bike, and it's noticeably heavier than the other two. Granted the 2023 has a slipper clutch and ride-by-wire throttle, so it's smoother and easier in terms of throttle and clutch control. Both the 310 R and the 310 GS have the same engine, but the bikes handle differently. The R is so fun - so nimble and just a blast. The 310 GS is taller and has a more upright seating position, with longer suspension travel and noticeable diving at the front when braking. The gearing is different between the 310 and 650, obviously. I'm a newer rider and I bought the 650 as my first bike,....it's a lot of bike, which is why I'm likely selling it and getting the smaller 310 (still deciding between the R and the GS). The 310 GS is 5.3" shorter in length than the 650, about 8 inches shorter in height, about 40 pounds lighter (but feels even lighter), has half the fuel tank capacity (also makes it lighter), and has a wheelbase that's about 2.5 inches shorter. The 310 R has even smaller dimensions than the 310 GS. I ended up buying a Yamaha XT250 to do dirt stuff, and am getting a street bike for the road - just need to choose between the GS and the R.
