    For any low porosity girls looking for a good cleansing shampoo that cleanses your hair without stripping it; I LOVE Shea Moistures Jamaican Black Castor Oil. It cleans my hair really good, and it allows me to lightly detangle my hair without it feeling stripped and brittle afterwards. I highly recommend it!

    I am new in this haircare routine. I just cut my hair of 6 years this week cause it was really damaged. Never knew there was something called hair porosity. My hair was growing, thick and I had length. A lot of people envied my hair and I never care to know what my hair wants. It was a battle to get rid of dandruff and it was looking dry. Heat was my friend. I set my hair every 3 months and I thought I was doing great until a few months ago, my hair was shedding badly from the root, serious breakage, hair tangling like attachment, spaces in my scalp. Mehn it terrible. I feel bad about it now and I just have to start afresh until this week. This same week, I brought haircare products thinking I was on my hair to start my hair afresh. All products I brought were all protein based. I brought a moisturising shampoo( heard it a no go area for low porosity hair)already brought when my friends told me to test my hair porosity and guess it was damn low. Like really damn low. It seems like the hair doesn't even want to Stay on water. I kept sticking the hair but it float faster before I blink my eyes. This is me expressing my frustration and how I feel. I feel worn out from checking how to care for a low porosity hair today. Different tips and someone said you have to listen to your hair. How do I know what my hair want? Mehn I am tired. How do you guys do this? I don't even know the difference between detangling conditioner, conditioner and deep in conditioner. Well, maybe I will get there one day. I oiled my hair since on Friday, I shower under cold water with the oil, only for me to touch my hair today and realized, it still oily.
    Damn! This is hard.
    P.s: I just feel worn and I feel writing it out will make me feel better.

      @seawcia3925 Před 2 lety +4

      Hi there. Hope you are well. I was once there, so frustrated and didn't know the different types of conditioners. I would advise you to do a lot of research on google and especially CZcams. That's what I have been doing and it has been helping. I still don't know or understand a lot about my hair and especially the hair products but I'm getting there.

    • @rebornlover166
      @rebornlover166 Před 2 lety +2

      I'm currently struggling with my natural hair after recently cutting off my damaged and permed ends, it's very hard to take care of and I've been tempted to relax it again (But I won't) My biggest advice is to just continue researching and trying things for your hair, and if your hair is low porosity you should always use warm water to wash it, cold water won't allow it to become moisturized and it will cause it to become brittle and stiff.

    • @YourMajesty143
      @YourMajesty143 Před 2 lety +1

      Look into Protein Overload vs Moisture Overload. Also keep in mind, alot of people with low-porosity also tend to have protein-sensitivity. Try to cut back on the protein and get rid of the excess buildup with a clarifying or cleansing shampoo. Make sure if it's a strong cleanser, that it has moisturizing properties so that it doesn't strip your hair. Avoid oils and creams bc they weigh hair down and leave your hair with excess film that is harder to clean. Lightweight products are best, since lo-po hair tends to get build up easily. Look primarily for water-based products that have water, aloe, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, honey, as its first ingredients. Any combination of humectants and emollients are best. If you have to use oils, then look for light oils such as argan, grapeseed, flax oil almond, sunflower, castor oil, tea tree oil, etc. I personally look for serums instead of oils. Also invest in a steam bonnet or microwaveable bonnet to help open your cuticles to get all the nutrients you need, bc your hair needs warmth. Please do not use cold water, it closes your cuticles which is the opposite of what your hair needs.

      -Wash your hair 2x in a month, preferably in sections or once a week if you have dry, itchy scalp or dandruff till the condition improves. Allow hair to dry completely...
      -Apply a hot oil treatment using penetrating oils, preferably palm kernel oil or batana oil (good choice for low porosity hair)...
      -Apply a hydrating deep conditioner or mask once a week or a hydrolyzed protein conditioner or mask once a month over the hot oil treatment then cover with a shower cap or plastic bag(30-60 minutes).You may sit under a hair drier for added warmth.(15-30 minutes) then rinse off...
      -Apply your hydrating or moisturizing leave-in condtioner, depending on the thickness/thinness of your hair, apply either an oil like Baobab oil (thin/fine hair) or butter like mango butter (thick hair) then style.
      -I hope this helps.

    i found out about 4 weeks ago that I had low porosity hair, 4C. I have been researching the what, who, when and how to take better care of it. By far your channel has given me a wealth of information to taking care of it. I understand that water is my hair's best friend. Only recently have I been keeping a hair wash routine every week, using many of DevaCurl products no-poo shampoo, conditioner or leave-in conditioner. Now I am looking for a style product for a wash an go to define my curls.

    One thing I'm struggling with is that I'm low porosity which requires a lot of water and/or electricity for keeping my hair and products warm, but I live in South Africa where we've been in a drought for years, along with the electricity providers playing pranks on us lol so water scarce and electricity is expensive. Thinking whether or not it would be simpler to rock a bald head!

      Pre Poo her hair.. wet hair then apply African Pride Pre Poo and detangle in sections and twist it up.
      Rinse her hair whilst in those twists. Then apply shampoo to the roots only. The run off will cleanse all her hair. Apply deep conditioner to soaking wet hair, twist in sections, plastic cap and leave for 30 mins. Rinse. Follow up with LCO method and style how you want...ie blowdry on low heat or wet twist it.

      Deep condition often, find good moisturising products for your LCO and stay away from stripping shampoos (opt for sulfate free moisturising ones - they won’t dry your hair) . Its all try and error until you find products that work well with your hair, because everyone’s hair reacts differently to certain products.

    Question: So the hair regimen should be Shampoo, deep conditioner, then the LCO method? Don’t use conditioner AND a deep conditioner?

      I’ve recently learned that you shouldn’t condition before using a deep conditioner or mask. It’s apparently easier for the deep conditioner to penetrate without conditioner. Not sure about the specifics of the science behind this, but it’s made a difference in my hair.

    Love you curls! I have a question, so I notice my low porosity hair sheds a lot whenever I style and I’ve been using protein free products so I’m positive I don’t have have protein overload and I do a protein treatment once a month. Any suggestions on products I should try?

      I have type 4 fine low porosity hair. These are the ones I use, they don’t have tons of protein and don’t leave the hair feeling dry and brittle.
      •Eden Bodyworks Almond and Marshmallow Split End Repair Mask (amazing and affordable)
      •Camille Rose Algae Renew Mask (gives amazing protein-moisture balance)
      Here’s a good cheaper option that I’ve used in the past:
      •ORS Hair Mayonnaise (its been reformulated with new ingredients)

      Hi welcome to the Famiri!
      If your hair is damaged, please go ahead and use a protein treatment or restorative mask. Your hair needs to he repaired. Maybe start trying to a prptein treatment 1-2 a month. And then see how your hair reacts to it.
