    After playing burn for a long time, I never thought about keeping a hand that deals 10. I just always look at my hand if it feels that it can work smoothly. Your tip number 1 is actually way better than what I do. It’s more objective and applicable.

    The "Playing other decks" tip makes allot of sense. In paper I usually play control decks. Just started playing MTGO and burn is one of the best and cheapest decks to start. So I went for it. And I run pretty well due to that knowledge. Thanks for the other tips as well

    The counting to 10 is an interesting idea. I do think another point of starting hands is knowing the matchup. All burn hands tend to be a bit slower in racing matchups. So against matchups like tron its sometimes appropriate to mulligan a perfectly "fine" hand to try to find a 1 drop creature.

    • @ggforgoblinguide3598
      @ggforgoblinguide3598  Před 3 lety

      Yes that's true if you know what you are up against, but the mulligan part was more for a game 1.

    Great video. I play multiple burn decks (boros burn, izzet blitz & RDW), but my main decks are simic fish and mono white DnT. The 10 damage rule honestly blew my mind. Been playing mtg since fallen empires and never thought of that.

    Counting to 10 may be very hard for average burn player

  • @marm6649
    @marm6649 Před 3 lety

    About the 10 points of damage, how do you count creatures? Do you count them as a single attack? So ~2 damage per creature?

    • @ggforgoblinguide3598
      @ggforgoblinguide3598  Před 3 lety +4

      It depends on the matchup, but if you are in game 1, you need to try to go with the average the creature is going to give you. For example, on the play Goblin Guide will deal an average of 4 points, but on the draw its going to go down to ~2 points. Same thing for Monastery. Eidolon is a different story, sometimes you will not be able to cast it or it will just win you the game on the spot, but usually an Eidolon on turn 2 in Modern (especially on the play) is one of our best play!

  • @SRADracer
    @SRADracer Před 3 lety

    On turn 2, would you rather play 2 one drop creatures or an eidolon?

    • @ggforgoblinguide3598
      @ggforgoblinguide3598  Před 3 lety +3

      Most of the time 2 one drops, but in some matchups eidolon turn 2 is better. Matchups like storm for example.

  • @jettblade
    @jettblade Před 2 lety

    Got a question: Why doesn't Burn play Vexing Devil? It seems like a card that would be good in there. It costs only 1, has a 4/3 body if it stays, and deals 4 damage if it doesn't stay. I can understand that a lot of Burn can be flexible enough to hit creatures as well but I think 4 damage to the face is good enough value, it is 1/5 of someone's life total in one card.

    • @seansagy8314
      @seansagy8314 Před 2 lety

      your creatures are typically going to deal around 4 damage anyway and they have upside in you get to keep them. The haste on the first turn with other creatures also nearly gurantees damage (especially on the play) against fast creature decks or cheap removal spells that otherwise turn it into what feels like a 1 mana do nothing.

    • @jettblade
      @jettblade Před 2 lety

      @@seansagy8314 That's a good point. I actually didn't think removal. Might actually be helpful to draw attention from something else, but that is just a thought. I still think that it could put in some work but I do get what you mean. Just trying to look for something different, a little shakeup.

      it's a matter of what to cut, but i play 2 vexing devil in my RDW because it's a great way to glean information from the opp. definitely not a play set though.

  • @jonsnow3855
    @jonsnow3855 Před 2 lety +1

    This might be too specific. Let's say we are on the play. I go land, Guide. They go Land, Ragavan. Do I bolt the Ragavan? I think so, but I would like to know your opinion.

    • @tempestandacomputer6951
      @tempestandacomputer6951 Před 2 lety +1

      Frankly depends on the match up, in my experience. If you run Lightning Helix in your deck, you 100% bolt the monkey because them casting a Helix on you is just catastrophic.
      I personally always run Searing Blaze specifically for monkey decks.
      Overall it might be safest to bolt it anyway because I rather waste a card on ragavan than the potential of them being able to remove all our creatures off our own bolts.

    • @bigdsimmons6875
      @bigdsimmons6875 Před 2 lety

      I always vote bolt the monkey. Mainly because as burn we're going to draw Spell, land, spell most of the time. If they're Exiling our spells and we're drawing nothing but land, plus they can cast our spells that's game over for us.
