  • The SnowMaster is a fast and lightweight snowblower. This was a tough snow for the SnowMaster to handle. The snow was wet and there was a layer of ice underneath. Check out how well it worked.

    I really like what Toro did with this snowblower, keeping everything identical to the gas version but replacing the engine with the electric power unit. This will surely make repairs much, much simpler, the power unit can probably be replaced with a new one very easily.

      It's both good and bad. It's good in that the blower is really easy to service and parts won't be a problem. It's bad in that you are on the clock the instant you turn it on whether you are blowing snow or not. An EGO for example is only running when you are actively blowing snow like Dyson.
      I waffled between this and the EGO, Toro has a good blower but not so great batteries; EGO has great batteries but a not so great blower. I decided that I'd rather have the good blower since in the long run batteries are a consumable anyway, and hopefully they will get better by the time I need a new set.

      Why do you say the Toro batteries aren't good? I have Toro 5, 6, 7.5 and 10ah batteries and haven't had an issue yet. If anything, I see the Ego guys on Reddit always complaining about their batteries lighting up red and dying sooner than they expected them to.

    I bought the e26 last December and also picked up a 3rd battery, a 10 ah. Power isn't a problem, we've had 2 wet slushy storms so far and it throws the snow fine, even when it's half water. Run time is the problem. 2x 7.5 + 1x 10 was barely enough to get through around a foot of wet snow, plus what the plow dumped at the end of the driveway.
    My driveway is small, 5 spaces total, but I have to clear out the mail box area plus space for trash so I have a good 40' at the front of the house that needs to be cleared of plow poop. Plus I clear a path all around the house so I can use the roof rake to clear off the bottom of the roof to prevent ice dams. The three batteries were on fumes after I did this.
    Long term I will probably need a second 10 ah. That would let me run 2 x 7.5, when they go dead swap in the 10's and let the 7.5's charge, when those go dead put the partially charged 7.5's back in. That I suspect would get me through most anything.
    A second minor but annoying problem is that the torque you get really drops once the batteries hit 2 bars, so for half the life of those batteries the blower really chugs clearing the plow snow.
    I suspected all this going in so I'm not mad just mildly disappointed. I also suspect you will see this blower packaged with 2x 10 batteries next year for $2100.

      One other complaint, the gearing is really wonky, it feels like there should be a gear between first and second. There have been times where first gear is too slow but second is too fast.
      The pros, no gas motor to maintain and the unit is super quiet. My wife works at a bakery and can be out at 4:30am clearing snow, I'm sure the neighbors appreciate how quiet this is vs our old gas blower.
      Comparing this to other electrics, I think the EGO unit is worse but the batteries are better. I don't think Toro batteries auto discharge down to half capacity for storage like EGO batteries do. And from what I've read the EGO batteries last longer, they do have a 5 year warranty vs. Toro's 3. But time will tell there. However the Toro blower itself is built to be maintained whereas the Ego is not (go look at what you have to do if you get something jammed in the impeller and it burns out the motor).

    I bought and just returned the 24” 2 stage model because even with the limited snow we’ve had so far this winter north of Toronto I was just finishing my driveway with only one bar left on 2 7.5 amp hour batteries.
    At $2110 at Home Depot I was not impressed.
    Now if it came with the 10 amp hour batteries (I didn’t know they existed) I might still have it.
    Sure I could have bought a 3rd battery but at $500 for a battery alone it is way more expensive than a more powerful gas 2 stage.
    Unfortunately the 28” Cub Cadet I bought instead was defective and wouldn’t start but that’s a different story.

    Thank you for making this video as I have been wondering about how this single stage self-propelled machine will perform. I am a consumer who does not believe in brand name loyalty and does watch a lot of tool reviews, a small appliance & IT certified technician who "currently" does not own any Toro tools. I buy what works well and reliable regardless of where they are build or assembled as equipment are build by the integrity of the individual, not the country or corporate names .
    For what I have seen so far Toro makes great belt driven gas and battery snow blower. Toro's battery single stage snow blower seems to be quiet, powerful with good battery efficiency and this unit seems to be no exception. Based on the video showing and the five different single & 2 stage battery snow blowers I have had owned so far, looks like there are two improvements that can be applied to this unit: 1. The lack of weight in the front part of the machine which causes the front auger housing to lift and flow above the snow so adding drift cutter or extra weight on the auger housing will decrease the front lift. 2. The implementation of the Personal Pace that cause the wheels to spin too fast and further increase the chance for the the light weight front auger housing to lift. For this machine, I think the traditional constant speed selector may work better for snow blowing vs grass cutting task.
    Few days ago I blow through 12,000 sq. ft. of 8"~10" rain mixed heavy wet snow plus submerged it into 1ft of brown road salt slush with wet snow left by the snow plow at an intersection with my "whining" non-belt driven direct drive gear box 28" snow blower with a set of two 12.0Ah batteries to clear the path where I usually walk the dog around the neighborhood and it had never clogged once at the lowest drive and auger speed unlike the other 21" single stage (Toro builds more powerful & efficient single stage battery unit for sure) and 24" 2-stage battery snow blowers I had owned before. These battery machines are just getting batter and better year after year. Thank you again for this review and I look forward to the future review on this unit as well.

    If you could have room to only have one parked in your garage, ( 60v Snowmaster or the 60v e26) which would you pick? Typical Minnesota suburb with an 8 car driveway cut into a small hill. I can only blow snow in one direction and that has a pretty steep 5' rise. The old Toro 210R can handle about 60% of the snowfalls, but the buildup by midwinter on that hill, it can no longer make it up that far so I end up using a scoop shovel for the clean up including the snow plow mess, which it has never done well. Try as I might to kill that old Toro, it just keeps plugging along, but I head out to work at 5:30am and usually reduced to shoveling at least a drive path so I don't wake the neighbors with the Toro. Been waiting to see someone test the snowmaster out on a driveway after a fresh snowfall, not sure if that is going to happen this year, suppose to be close to 50 degrees here on Feb. 01.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  Před 5 měsíci

      For your area I would go with the e26.
      The SnowMaster is a lightweight snowblower and it will not do well on your hill. It won't have the traction to always go up it and the Personal Pace "freewheels" when going downhill so you would have to hold it back going downhill.

    I have the 2022 model. When we got 10 inches of heavy wet snow last week in Boston it was able to handle my moderately sized driveway with ease. The driveway is about 1500 square feet. I have 3 of the 60v 7.5Ah batteries. When I was done each battery had 2 bars left. I was very satisfied with how it performed. I paid $2200 for it in July 2022. I noticed that the 2023 model was reduced in price quite a bit to $1700. It looks like the 2023 model only comes with 1 battery but the larger capacity and they changed some of the design of the handle where it looks not as comfortable to use. Guessing they had to make some modifications to bring the price down as not many people bought the 2022 model for $2200. I'd be nice if you could find the 2022 version and compare them.

    I had the exact gas version of this by Toro and I absolutely hated that Toro Personal Pace push handlebar system.
    I hated it so much i sold it immediately.
    For the idea of a single stage it just didn't clean well.
    The Personal Pace when i pushed it was popping wheelies.
    I hope Toro does away with this personal pace.
    Whats odd is i thought i would love it, because i have a older John Deer self propelled mower that has John Deers version of that personal pace and it worked great.
    But on this Toro, i don't understand why i thought it was awful.

      @PaulSikkema  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I didn't have a Personal Pace mower when I got my first SnowMaster and it took me a while to figure the Personal Pace out. The secret is: You DON'T push it. You just start walking with your hands on the handle and it stays in front of you.
      If you think you have to push it use the steel bar under the Personal Pace handles.
      Owners who have a nice smooth blacktop or cement driveway love the SnowMaster. With the suburban houses everyone shows in their ads it's great.
      Owners that drive on the snow before they clear it, gravel, or people that don't get out and clean right away don't.
