    I'm researching the best snow blower for my situation, and I've been really finding your videos very helpful. I have a few questions, but not so much about the ones in this video. Somewhere you had mentioned you could answer questions/give advice in the comments so I thought it was worth a try. My particular circumstances: I live in eastern Iowa, in a rural location with gravel driveways (I have to clear 3 neighboring drives and paths between them which are on grass), one of the drives is moderately long with a moderately steep slope upward from the garage to the road. I've only ever used a wheeled snow blower and never on my own property or in these specific conditions. My boss has a cub cadet which I use to clear snow at work mostly on pavement and level ground. For my property my father has been using a skid loader for many years, but it has reliability and maintenance concerns going forward (and his age and health are an issue now) which is why I'm looking to replace or assist by getting a walk behind snow blower.
    I am leaning toward the rapidtrak Ariens, as it seems the best track system for versatility, maneuverability etc... and that brand has been recommended to me by my brother in law. But I'm not sure how much to spend, in terms of what the advantages of getting into the pro models vs. the lower end models would be for my situation. I could justify getting one of the high end models if I know I'm going to get my money's worth. I also would like to know if you have any opinions on a wheeled blower with chains on the tires versus a track model in terms of traction on an incline in various snow conditions. Also, sometimes we get snowfall on soft ground in early/late winter, do you see tracks being effective in those conditions, particularly on an incline, or do you think wheels with chains or without would be better or worse? I would also be curious if you have an opinion on the reliability, service quality, or any concerns you might have with maintenance cost of a rapidtrak (or Ariens brand in general) as compared to getting a wheeled blower, or as compared to some other manufacturers.
    Sorry for the difficult inquiry, I'd really appreciate any wisdom you could share, it appears from your content that you have much experience and have used many brands and styles. Thanks.

      Welcome neighbor. I live in Clinton now.
      The Platinum RapidTrak is a good snowblower but you will like a Pro model a lot better. The Pros have a much larger engine so they won't lug down clearing the heavy, wet snow we got this week and they are heavier so they have more traction to push through drifts. The Pro models are also a lot more rugged than the Platinum. One inch axle, heavy duty handles, commercial hydro transmission - they will be the last snowblower you ever need to buy.
      The AutoTurn and RapidTrak make the Ariens the easiest track snowblowers on the market to use. (I have all the other brands and always grab the RapidTrak :)
      1. I own the 28 inch Pro mainly because I can fit it through the side door on my garage. The PROFESSIONAL ALPINE EDITION - 28 HYDRO EFI RAPIDTRAK is the current model. It has 110 volt electric start and few more features than my 2020 model.
      2. For the amount of driveway you have to clear the 32 inch machines may be the best choice for you. They will get you done about 20% faster than a 28 inch.
      3. My Choice for you. The PROFESSIONAL MOUNTAINEERING EDITION - 32 HYDRO EFI RAPIDTRAK has 12 volt electric start, a ONE gallon fuel tank and good lighting. The electric chute control is the fastest on the market.
      4. The PROFESSIONAL KRAKEN - 32 HYDRO EFI RAPIDTRAK has more lighting all the way around the snowblower so if you work in the dark you'll love all the lights. It also has all the features of the Mountaineering model.
      5. I have the same problem with gravel so I set my skid shoes so there is a 3/8 inch gap under the scraper bar. There is a vendor that does make long, heavy-duty skid shoes that ride over the soft gravel very well. snowblowerskids.com/
      Finding a RapidTrak in stock in eastern Iowa may be difficult. If your local dealer can't get one I suggest going to www.ariens.com/ and go to the dealer locator and calling all the dealers in the area and finding one that can get the one you want.

    I have two questions. are you going to be reviewing any ariens products this winter? second I know you have done reviews on the areins deluxe 28 /28sho but would it be possiable to review all three areins deluxe28 /28sho /pro 28 wheeled machine? by the way your videos are informative , helpful and a lot to learn on how machines and their componets work thanks.

      Ariens hasn't changed any of their snowblowers this year.
      Ariens Deluxe 28 czcams.com/video/PbqBGG6j1qA/video.html
      Ariens Deluxe SHO - The SHO is the same as the Deluxe 28 with a larger 306 cc engine and the Platinum Series Impeller. In other words, if the Deluxe 28 is a 1970 Plymouth Satellite, the Deluxe 28 SHO is the 1970 Road Runner :) (They were both the same car)
      The Pro and the RapidTrak Pro are the same snowblower. The Pro is a wheeled version. Compared to the Deluxe series the Pro models are MUCH heavier duty. One inch axles, commercial hydro transmission, Reinforced square tube handles, quick chute control, thicker metal and more solid transmission housing. If you have a big area to clear or do multiple driveways it's well worth the extra cost.
      Note: I should do a new RapidTrak video because the Ariens improved the LCT engine 2 years ago compared to the engine in this video.

    Hows the charging time for the different battery sizes?Are you using a regular charger? Trying to buy either the Toro or the Ego.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  Před 6 měsíci +2

      I'm old-school about charging. The slower you charge, the longer your battery will last over the years. So, I use the standard Toro 2 amp charger. So a 2.5 AH battery takes about an hour - a 10 AH takes 4-5 hours. When you buy a Toro with the batteries they give you a 2 amp charger with each battery in the kit. I've acquired 6 chargers so I can charge multiple batteries at the same time.
      Toro also sells 3 amp and 5 amp chargers if you want to charge faster. Toro Pro also offers a 5 amp, six port charger that hangs on the wall. I'm thinking about getting one of those next spring
      EGO supplies either a 3 amp or 5 amp charger in the kits.

      Thank you for answering my questions always, you are one of the only CZcams content creators that takes the time to answer us in the comments sir .
      I might have the opposite to buy the 24" two stage with no batteries pretty cheap. But now I'm unsure since you said there's no auto stir.. I know my old Honda from 15 years ago is a bear to wrestle with to stir in snow ugh .. but maybe the electric is light weight wise and I wouldn't notice ??? Thoughts ???

    None of these would have helped this morning. Very wet huge bolder chunks from the plow coming through they were over a foot tall even my Ariens 30” had to back and forth through them.

      My brother got out last night before everything froze and used the self-propel single stage on his sidewalk. He said, "This snowblower is awesome!" That said,
      I didn't even bother to get a snowblower out today for the apartments. I just cleaned everything with my New Holland Boomer loader tractor. It still took over three hours to clean the sidewalks, clean up the "boulders" from the city plow and the messy contractor who plowed the business behind me.
      I used my Deluxe 28 at my sisters and it worked ok-ish. She has a very steep driveway and lucky-for-me the driveway was warm enough that I could get under most of the snow, but I had to go down the drive clearing the snow and then walk it back up because of the ice layer. I told her twice "I wish I had the RapidTrak up here." I could have put that into dig-in mode and made short work of the mess.

  • @WatsitTooyah
    @WatsitTooyah Před 6 měsíci

    Burned out all 5 of my 60v batteries this morning, plus the controller and/or motor on the e24 blower. Auger was frozen and would not engage, stalled out. Then it wouldn't make that click on the first key detent. Tried different batteries, and fried them. Service location told me it would be 3/4 the cost of a completely new snow blower to repair, not even considering the batteries that are now spicy paperweights. Ridiculous.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  Před 6 měsíci

      Is it still under warranty?
      Bring your batteries and charger inside and let them warm up for a few hours. Put each one on the charger overnight and see if they reset.
      The e26 I have will kick out on overcurrent if the load is too great. After a few minutes it will automatically reset. I've had one battery kick out in the summer because it got to hot but eventually it reset after it cooled down.

    • @WatsitTooyah
      @WatsitTooyah Před 6 měsíci

      @@PaulSikkema yea the chargers do nothing when plugging them in anymore, no lights on charger. They also don't power my inverter after putting them in the snow blower. It seems that the controller on blower is damaged and has damaged the batteries BMS.
      It is under warranty still, hopefully I can get it sorted out soon without too much hassle. We are getting absolutely slammed with snow!

    Have you had any experience with Ego?

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes, I like the Toro machines the best but if you already own EGO batteries you might as well use them in an EGO snow blower. The TORO is a great snowblower with an electric power unit added on to it. Mechanically, it's identical to the gas units.
      The EGOs are designed differently. They have multiple electric motors, lots of controls, plastic gears and so on. The owners like them and don't complain about the noise all the motors make. They have different models, push, self-propel, 2-stage - just like Toro so you'll have to decide which one is best for you.

    • @aliaskink
      @aliaskink Před 6 měsíci

      @PaulSikkema That's my dilemma. I am either looking at the single stage with metal auger or their new 2 stage. I just don't know if the 2 stage is overkill in the Chicago suburbs. It also seems like the 2 stage has a very high pitch when operating.

    • @PaulSikkema
      @PaulSikkema  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes, their 2-stage machines are noisy.
      If you get drifts or a 24 inch snowplow drift at the end of your driveway I recommend the 2-stage. If you want a single stage I recommend the EGO Power + Peak Power SNT2125AP with the rubber paddles. The rubber paddles touch the ground and help to pull the snowblower along. The metal paddled one you HAVE to push and most people hate it if the snow is wet or deeper than a few inches.
