The JJ line took me by surprise.
but.... it's true ;-)
Such a high quality in depth lighting guide for absolutely free. That's awesome!
Just like it should be… filmmakers unite!!! Thanks for watching
The quality is superb.
+1 Absolutely awesome
I've seen some of your other videos back in the days. This one - made me subscribe. Well done
Well, nothing is ever truely free.
Amazing tutorial.
"Lighting is to cinema as music is to opera." Good line.
Thanks man... I thought so too!!!
Best sponsor break on CZcams, hands down.
Thanks Grant.... we try ;-))))) glad you like it
I'm not lying if I said your videos are the highest quality in video production value on the whole of CZcams. I love it.
Ah, Manny.... it is you again..... death. Thanks man, thats very kind of you!!! I'm glad you feel like that about my work... it is very motivating!
Fantastic work sir. I wish all DP's would see this. I am a colorist for over 20 years and work on a lot of projects that miss this every time. Lighting is so important. It is how you paint your cinematic canvas.
thanks man... glad you like it. Especially considering your professional background!
Wow, das war das beste video über beleuchtung, das ich bisher gesehen habe. Was für ein meisterstück.
Danke für die Blumen.... freut mich sehr das es Dir zusagt.
@10.23 If your tutorials weren't engaging enough this just was pure brilliance!!! A sense of humour is priceless, thank you for the amazing effort! Irony: I'm a happy Nord VPN client
Thanks man… unfortunately NordVPN was not satisfied… well, we prefer sponsor that are film related anyways
I have to say that I have watched this video in my studio few days ago but now I am watching it again at home at 23:39pm on my 4K TV, because it deserves one more proper viewing. Thanks a lot!
Nice to heat it gets a bit more "estate" to show of ;-) Thanks for the flowers man!
Your videos, make me take out my lights and play with them! Your videos are the only ones that have this effect on me! Seriously! this is the kind of content CZcams needs! You explain such intimidating things so simply!
Thats exactly what I would like people to feel about my channel.... I want them to discover or rediscover their love for filmmaking. I very happy, that it does that for you!! Thanks you so much for your kindness... and for warching
@@MediaDivision You've done exactly that. Thank you. As for me, I feel like rip van winkle, ready to properly 'make' again. No more Panavision kits and 60 man crews... Thank you. By the way... do you know how well the anamorphic adaptor works on a contax 35-70? Can you get it to a 28mm or is 30mm the absolute, limit? I've heard it's 'single focus-ish'... : ) or do you have to play with it? Meanwhile, as ever, thank you for incredibly inspiring tutorials.
this is one of the best tutorials on light I couldnt find anything else with this quality! thank you so much keep going
Thanks Baylux... I will try
Hi Nicolas. I’m posting on my wife’s account as it’s logged in to YT on iPad. I’m watching my second awesome video from you and was pleasantly surprised to hear a track I composed during your Nord VPN promo! I’m a feature film director and composer. I directed the horror movie Urban Legend among others. I absolutely love your channel and I’m so glad the first time I’ve bumped into one of my AudioJungle royalty free tracks was on one of your videos. I couldn’t be prouder! You are a gem on CZcams and set the bar so much higher than others creating content in this space, or any other. You deserve a huge audience and I will certainly help spread the word to my mates in the biz. Warmest regards from a new fan. Jamie.
Hey Jamie... thats what I brought spectrum of talent! Impressive man. I am completely yellow of jealousy, directing a feature with that talent must be such a thrill. I am amazed that my little amateur CZcams shenanigans make you proud man... but I feel very honoured and I am very happy and thankful that you plan to share our content... we certainly need a bigger audience to make all this work worth wile. Really like that Ninja track. Appreciate you being around and hope to hear from you soon. Nikolas
Now I know why it took two massive trucks to film one scene of the movie Peterloo at Chester city cathedral, packed full of lighting and other equipment. It is amazing how much work goes into it. Thanks for the tutorial, great information.
Thanks man… if you do that… you know what you are doing and this is not for you. This is an entry level tutorial. I usually get along with just one van full ;-)
Your episodes are piece of art. Watching them is a pure joy.
Thanks a lot Alex... it makes me happy that someone feel like that about my work.... that what it is all about.
The greatest CZcams channel
Thanks a lot Waseem!!! Hopefully more will realise that 😜
That is actually ,the best lighting intro I've ever seen,🌹🌹
Thanks man!
One of the best lighting tutorials i've ever seen on CZcams....and ive seen A LOT. Clear, concise, simple explanation...with a witty and creative sponsor add, a practical lighting equipment explanation, and a product suggestion. Also....a very CINEMATIC real world lighting scene at the end! You guys deserve a million subs! You got mine for sure! THANK YOU!
Thanks man!!! That’s the way it should be!! Glad you enjoy and find it useful.
this is literally the best nordvpn commercials i've seen across all sponsored channels
Thanks Tao Tao.... the liked it, too... and dropped us after two episodes. Tried to reactivate recently and we said "no thank you". We will only do sponsorships with companies related to filmmaking in the future
For the very first time I willingly saw the sponsored part. 10:23
……………… HOMEWORK!!!!!!!"!
@@MediaDivision I see.. Continuity.. 😂Okay.. gtg.. On to battle prep.
@@AyushBakshi Thats the spirit… good luck man!!!!
Best NordVPN ad on CZcams by far. That was hilarious and so well made :D
I love how you love film, and love showing clips from films. Thank you.
We love how you comment 😉Thanks a lot man.... we really appreciate it!
I'm in a far away country, but it doesn't matter, I think I'm watching you and I'm taking an example.
Thanks again Night King... I'm very glad you find our stuff helpful!!!
Oh man these are the only videos on CZcams that I watch at 1x speed. It's a crime to speed this beautiful imagery up...
We will work harder.... until you watch everything at 1/2 speed 😜
The content you created is absolutely outstanding. Thanks so much for all the explanations.
Absolutely our pleasure jay... thanks for hanging around
North VPN commercial won my thumbs up
Glad you had fun with that one... thanks for the thumbs up
I love the "front light" expression!
Thanks to the internet, thanks to you guys for this type of content and biggest thanks to my mom who forces me to take english classes as a child lol
It's amazing quality, lot of work, amazing content and FOR FREE, damn you guys, it's impossible to imagine that 72 people acctually pushed the unlike button.
Thanks a lot Eduardo... we presume, that those are from older pros, that are just not used to light with sensitive cams and very little light
Best Lighting Video in all CZcams!!! Thank you so much
Thanks a lot Max! Our pleasure.... nice to have you around
That color spike seems like a hella useful light for FX work. Thanks for sharing.
Totally is... I use it all the time. Pleasure man
❤❤❤❤
For long I have been searching for this kind of Teaching.
At many platform a lot of money spent and still not satisfied.
Here are mine enjoying this well cooked meal.❤❤❤
I can't thank you enough sir, God bless you so much.
I wish to be one of your STUDENT from my country.
I'm a gaffer.
As a professional gaffer this must be terrible basic. It is really a beginners guide. Enjoy our newer stuff for more experimental, educational, and much better produced content. Good luck on your journey
To make it a bit dramatic, we add a prop gun. And the force of the action in cocking it was amazing and adds to the humour so much.
Glad you like it Adam....
Great advice. Light / lighting is to the visual arts what flavor is to cooking; equipment just dictates control / workflow. Thanks for another fantastic video Nikolas.
Thanks Gabe… kind of you!!!
Dude your videos are the highest quality tutorials i think i have ever seen on youtube! Such detailed explanations, great content to keep everything interesting and such a high level of production! Great to see youtube at its best!
Nice use of the Pulp Fiction scene. Saw it coming, but glad you used it! I'd love one of these kits. Will have to put one together when I have the funds
Thanks… it's a classic
Jeez, there's so much information in this video, and it is all for free! Seriously, in 20 minutes you just demystified lighting for me (which was the part I most struggle with).
Keep making these, they're awesome!
Thanks a lot Mutcholoko!! I will try
Awesome, magical !
Thanks Jean!
Magic! You really love films!
We surely do..... thanks man
The older I get, the more I love simplicity. Great little kit and better yet your skill as a cinematographer.
I feel you... especially when one has to carry all the stuff themselves. Thanks for the flowers man!!! Glad you found it interesting.
Best ad I've seen for a while... a long while! and the tutorial is top notch. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
It is absolutely my pleasure Oren.... thanks for the flowers and for watching!
Brilliant!!
Thanks man
im mostly into astrophotography but damn i keep coming back to this channel just because of the insane production quality and interesting information. hope you guys never stop.
Thanks a lot man... well, you never know. Each new episode gets more and more complex. This will have to pay off sometime
@@MediaDivision it might be a fancy ask but could you guys try combining videography with astrophotography and make a new field of astrovideography. You guys have the super speed lenses and superb cameras to try and achieve that. Maybe when you guys have finished your current bucketlist of making videos. Considering the SNR for photography itself is requiring trackers and long exposures. I thought you would be up for a challenge.
I don't see value for us in that... you can't tell a story that way. Things are not happening in real time and the entry in sophisticated results is costly. Capturing the beauty of the cosmos in a cinematic fashion has been done so many times. Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey does it very nicely.
@@MediaDivision understood
Great !!!
Thanks Alex
This is the most entertaining tutorial I ever watched and I never wanted to skip the sponsor ad. Amazing!
Thanks a lot Matthew!!! Thats very nice to hear! Glad you are entertained
This guide is absolutely magnificent. Thank you
Thanks a lot man!!! It is totally our pleasure
Thank you! That was one of the best tutorials I’ve seen on CZcams. Watched the whole thing through with no fast forward at any stage. Knowledgeable, interesting and entertaining. 10 of 10. And of course I’m following your channel now. 🙏🏻
Thank you Oyvind ... that kind of you.... I'm always trying to make it entertaining. Glad that it is for you. Thanks for hanging around!!!
This is on a different level. Very well done, thank you!
This is the best free lightning tutorial of all time 😱
Thanks... well, not even I think so... it is very basic, but I am glad you feel that way.
Everything seemed just fine until I saw that office and 5 minute transformation that blew my mind 😮
And I was like, no way he will do anything decent out of that space without some serious light..
24 minutes felt like 2.4 minutes
Thanks a lot Mislav… much appreciated!!! I love to entertain… and when you are… I'm happy
Camera cost 150k?
8000$... but it would have looked pretty much the same on a GH5. If you think it is the camera that is stopping you.... it is not
Pure gold.
Thanks Rafa
This is supreme quality!! Omg
Thanks man!
This is the first video I’ve seen of yours and now I’ve Subscribed
How did you get around me ?????? Just kidding.... nice to have you man
Der Beste Kanal für Filmmaking auf CZcams. Danke Jungs!
Danke Jona…… erzähl es allen 😜 wir brauchen mehr Subs. Danke Dir!!!
Easily the best video I've seen on lighting. Thank you!
Thanks a lot man.... glad you like it
This is the second time in my life i am becoming a fanboy of something. Your content is amazing. Feeling grateful.
Wow… that is very flattering… thank you PlayStyle… I hope the first time was not Cliff Richard 😜
It's interesting to watch how lighting has evolved just for CZcams bloggers. It was all about 3-point lighting, then the ring lights to keep everyones face soft. I then started to see everyone using fairy lights or groups of other small old-fashioned bulbs - to have multiple spots of bokeh light. Today I'm seeing neon colored lights in the backgrounds - neon blue and purple most commonly with a regular white light on the subjects face.
Sure.... lighting is fashion and the technical possibilities...... in cinema we are all about side and backlight an d about low key lighting... that will inspire Creators plus the general expectation regarding production value went up.
I am so happy I subscribed to this channel. Super in depth, easy to comprehend and practical uses with examples. Bravo guys! Thanks for going above and beyond just reading a spec sheet on products and ACTUALLY showing applications. You just brought my lighting comprehension to another level! 👏🙏 😊🔦💡📽🎥
That is a really nice parade of compliments there... thanks a lot man. Really appreciated! .... and thank you for being around
I can't say enough about this...very, very good!
Thanks you Melanie... I want to celebrate the very rare occasion that a female watches one of my videos.... at last ............one 😝
Wish I could like this a thousand times! thank you once again media division. Your attention to detail is inspirational
Thanks a lot man.... it's very nice to hear that is has such impact for you!
Great job! very easy to follow and 25 mins felt damn short.
NordVPN spot was very hilarious 🤣
Thanks man…next episode is 1 hour 25 minutes… let's see if that feels short, too. The NordVPN thing cost me a limb or two
@@MediaDivision I can imagine 🤣

Fantastic video. THANK YOU.
Thanks a lot Paul.... and thanks for being around
I am a photographer and wanna get into filmmaking. You're doing a great job explain such complex things in relatively short videos. Keep up the good work!
Cheers man.... I will certainly try my best. Getting better from episode to episode. Good luck with your journey. It is a mans road... but fun
Thx for the great tips Nicolas! Always luv to see what's next!! Light is it, without it we truly have nothing, and for most Filmmakers, cinematographers, or DOP's... is the KEY to a successful film. I find it fascinating how many spend $$$$ on equipment but seem to lack in lighting, me included. I'm still on the fence with LED lighting as it is still evolving by leaps & bounds, and most... COST. I'm saving up and will look at them again next year. Cheers
Thanks a lot Richard… always nice to have you around!! I think the kit in this is very reasonable with something like 1200$… much less that most will spend on a lens while way more important then the lens… I love Tungstens look for sure… but in the field and without power they are next to worthless.
@@MediaDivision
Thx, yes... you're right! Your kit is compact, portable, multi-usable, and priced very reasonable for what you have. If I lived in the US a would buy now but with .74 CAN exchange, I'm going to wait till at least the fall.
no hurry man.
Your videos are simply fantastic. Congrats!
Thanks man... appreciated!
Your delivery is perfect.
cheers man… trying to get better from episode to episode
Great episode! Thank you so much👌
