  • Removing and cleaning the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve on a pre-2006 Volkswagen Golf Mark 5, 1.4L petrol. If there’s a fault with your EGR valve, the check engine usually light comes on with the fault code P0408 being the most common. You might not notice any change in how the engine runs or you may notice that the engine idles rough, has poor performance or even increased fuel consumption. If so, then a dirty or clogged EGR valve is one of the possible causes of these issues. If the valve is clogged up with carbon deposits then cleaning it may fix the problem. It’s certainly worth a try before replacing the valve. If you do need to replace it, the part number is 036131503T. Thanks for watching. Please comment, like and subscribe !.

    I had lots of problems with EGR valves in the 1.6 FSI Golf engine. In the end I had the EGR blanked off and a remap to deactivated it in the ECU. The car runs SO much better. Idle is better, it revs cleaner and pulls a little harder too. The blanking plate was £5 and the remap was £150. Not cheap but one of the best investments I've made on my Golf. The car passed its MOT yesterday too, so no issues with emmisions, and the remap prevents a check engine light from coming on.

    Also you need to clean the pipe which connects to egr valve. Also after cleaning you need to check the work of valve itself, if it move good.

    I was doing exactly this on my SEAT IBIZA just a couple of hours ago and unfortunately I broke the rubber hose connector ( not the radiator hose but the connector to which the radiator hose is connected). I don't know what to do now. 😥

      Sometimes it comes off with the bolt if the nut has a lot of rust, don't worry about it! A little harder to get back on it's place but same method!

    In my case? Cleaning fluid? 20 bucks, new seals 25 bucks. New EGR valve? 40 bucks!? WTF! So there is a new one on it now, but that was kind of weird.

    Cod P0407 ( Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve position sensor B - low input
    Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor B Circuit Low )
    I don't know what to do. Is it possible to change the EGR valve or just need cleaning?

      @@screwsnutsandbolts sorry I’ve confused you. I meant the silver pipe u disconnected from EGR valve? Surely that’s full of carbon also. Also can you not completely disassemble this EGR valve. I have same car. And also an astra, 1.7cdti where u can completely break down the EGR and clean it thoroughly?. Cheers

    • @screwsnutsandbolts
      @screwsnutsandbolts  Před 2 lety

      Ah ok, I was just focusing on the egr valve itself but you could spray carb cleaner through the pipe too if it's clogged up, however I don't think this egr valve unit can be disassembled

    Clean the egr pipe aswel as that is full of crap to you don't have to get it out as its a mission to get out just spray in place if you don't clean it 1 month later you get the same problems as I found out myself
