- Here’s what it’s like owning a Maine Coon cat.
A nice brief overview of the breed, to give you a taste of life with a Maine Coon.
Take a look at just how big the Maine Coon cat get, in my article on who are the biggest Maine Coon cats in the world:

Basically like owning a lion but it's legal
😅😸
Also without the buffalo takedown.
Completely agree;) we breed them along with British shorthair. Both equally amazing and yet so different;). Thx for a good clip🐈😍
@@greyviking-yl9fq what's the difference between British shorthair & American shorthair, if any?
yeah.. it's nothing like owning a lion at all. thanks for contributing though
I had a male...he was the most affectionate cat ever. Slept with me and loved to lay on my shoulder and sleep. I miss him.😢
❤🩹
Nothing will ever replace our furry loved ones, but you need to get another one, brother. (If you haven't, of course)....peace.
Our Maine Coon mix, Hermes, is 25lbs and the biggest cat I have ever seen in person. He's such a sweet baby, he loves everyone but he's especially bonded with me. He follows me around the house, taps me politely for pets, tells me to sit down so he can sit in my lap, herds me to bed at night so we can spoon (he's the little spoon.) He loves my husband too, he loves licking his arm hair at night.
How is the shedding?
when i first saw this my brain didnt see that his name was hermes my brain thought that his name was herpes
Reminds me of "Jungle Book". 🐱
How are they with other cats ? I have a male Russian Blue 3 years, a male Short Haired Black 2 years and a 6 month old little Calico girl. They three of them are best buddies, chasing and play fighting. They sleep with us on the bed at times. I wonder how a Main Coon would fit in our household. I have always wanted one. Now that I am retired I spend all my time with my three and would to have another so why not a Main ? Hope you can advise or point me in the direction of someone that can. Thank you. P.S. Love your story, spooning lol.
Cat looks like he/she is in heaven
I just adopted a Maine coon this elderly woman could not take care of him anymore he is 4 years old and hes the sweetest nicest cat I have ever ever owned I am so proud to be his new mummy
Aw this is beautiful and so kind of you. You should be a proud mummy🐾😻
Just lost mine after twenty years. He was a real CatDog! He when he was younger, be weighed 10kg in winter and 7kg in summer. It was amazing how his body and coat changed with the seasons. Would love another one one day.
sorry for your loss
Sorry to hear that😢🐱
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hopefully you don't wait too long. These look like wonderful family members.
@@MaineCoonCentral i like the maincoon in here called MrVivo he's awesome love to get one like him one day but they are expensive..Have you seen the outher video in here titled maincoon trio?..It's the one with the 3 brothers starring vito, venom and vader they are awesome
My female Maine Coon is super loving and social too! Cuddling, kissing, talking, likes to be carried, follows you around the house. :-}
I just love the way he turns and locks eyes on you when you call his name…extraordinary bonding
We have a Maine Coon girl Amy who we got from a person who couldn’t look after her anymore when she was 2 years old she is 11 years old in September and we love her to bits ❤️
As a long time US Siamese owner, I would now consider a Maine Coon. The lady in this video has a charming accent!
Mine was my best friend and the most beautiful soul. She always LOVED a cuddle and we shared a bond I've never had with anyone ❤❤❤
I lost mine in Nov. I miss that bond
I lost mine about five years ago and I still think of him. The bond we had was so special.
I have a 5 year old male Maine Coon but he's only 14lbs at best. He is VERY talkative and playfull. I took him after his previous owner suddenly died a couple months ago. He lost a lot of weight because of that, but is doing much better now.
Aww. Poor cat (and former owner for that matter)
Thank you for taking him in. Yes.....they grieve. A broken bond is hard to repair.
All cats are incredible, but the forest cats (Siberians, Norwegians, Masquerades and Maine Coons) are in a league of their own. You only need one in your home for a few minutes to realise that the joy of cat ownership just stepped up several gears. These are big cats with massive personalities, and they never take no for an answer. Ignore them at your peril!
He knows exactly what you are saying. Imagine having a cat with a head as large as my own. LOL
Wow, he's so docile. I kept expecthing him to bite her in the face. 🤣
Nope😆🤩
What a fantastic cat. So dignified. I have a cat named Pippin, but she's a tiny (didn't have the best start in life) rescued tabby. Would love a Maine Coon one day.
Thank you for your kindness! Aw, another Pippin!! You should definitely consider it😉🐱🐾
I'm biased also. I had a MC female and she was such a love muffin. She was a great comfort after my husband died. Sassy would follow wherever I went. She wanted to go for rides in the car. It didn't matter where she just wanted to go. Lightfoot at times has some Maine Coon personality traits as well. He leads me all over the apartment to show he what he wants. Sometimes he forgets to watch where he's going and he walks into a trash can or kitchen chair. Very silly and loving.
So awesome. My Annie and Maggie LOVE going for car rides. No freakouts, just want a window seat
He looks at you with such affection ❤
I've had 3. Nothing like them. Best pet in the world.
We got a male MC from the SPCA that had been returned twice and he was in rough shape when we got him but he has blossomed. He follows my wife around the house and is by far the sweetest cat we have ever had. He is such a gentleman and never demands. He is also doing a fine job of keeping our mouse population in check. We are so fortunate and he is such an adorable cat. Love the tail too and it is ALWAYS up.
When they finally bond, it's a special time for everyone.
That is a nice story.

Always wanted one, but I couldn’t live with the guilt. All of my kitties are rescue kitties with amazingly different personalities.
I've adopted a Maine Coone from a friend who went back to living with his parents, the cat was locked away in a bench practically 24/7. His fur was knotted really bad & covered in pee, also underweight.... Just miserable! I really felt sorry for the cat, so I suggested I'd take him in. I've had cats and dogs all my life, but this one is special & really stole my heart. I've only come across your channel recently, but I can see alot of common behaviour between both of them!
Such a sad story, I’m so glad you’ve taken the Maine Coon in. No animal deserves to be treated so badly 😢
@@MaineCoonCentral He's got a golden basket now & I got a new fluffy friend. This story has a happy end :)
I remember being exfoliated and walked over and cuddled and just blessed with the most wondrous breed ever. ❤
Greatest cat breed on earth.
Back in the early 90's I had bought a Maine Coon from a breeder in Carmel, Ca. His Grand Father was a grand champion. We got him home as soon as it was permitted by age. We named him CJ from the white C and J in the fur on his grey side. There never was a more loving cat in the quite a few cats we have had in our house. Total of 9 with 5 at the same time. While reading a news paper in bed, he would jump up by my feet and start walking under the paper and lay down on my chest. Lots of Purring and a vibration that tingled at times. He would reach up and lick my chin and then ever so gently bite and hold onto my chin for about 30 seconds purring louder. like the one here, mine too was a head butter to the face. Always ready for a belly Rub and a good brushing. My wife and I would go for walks and he would accompany us to the corner then turn and trot back home tail held straight up. He was mine and I was his. Just like here, there is a lot of love in that look pippin gives I would get. I really miss him.
Thank you for sharing your story Matt. It sounds so lovely. CJ will remain in your heart forever🐾🙏🏼🐱
We have a 7mo.male ginger/white kitten named Sunny. He is the dearest ♥️ .We got him from a breeder in Wisconsin. Nothing but joy!! Love him, he just oozes happy happy happy! Blessings to you!
My Skeezix lived for 23 glorious years. It's been almost that length of time since he passed, and I still miss him.
Love your post.
I lost mine in May 10 years to the day we rescued him.
His name was tucker ..after book tuck everlasting. We recently adopted 2 beautiful mainecoons .
Opie and sir sunny...we own makes . They are amazing
Adopted Elsa our maine coon. From the time we get up in morning, she is affectionate demanding attention. Follows me around like a dog. She is a handful, the best cat ever. Love her
What a sweet amazing guy, I just love his big fluffy coat and his loving nature 😽😽
Omg, I love these cats so much
I was in Montana on summer vacation when I was 7 and it is really hot there even at night, so I was out at midnight and had the 2nd biggest scare of my life when I saw two huge animals come around the corner of the house. I couldn't figure out what they were cos they were too fluffy for wolves-- and I was making a mad dash for the house.
Many years later, I'd heard of Maine Coons, but not their size. The internet educated me-- as well as solved a 50 year old mystery for me! My last baby was a MC mix and I would love to have another, pure bred or mix, doesn't matter to me and after hearing this, I would want a male (tho' I wouldn't be upset with a female!). Pippin is just sooo adorable and reminds me so much of my Boyo! I love watching your vids every chance I get! Thank you for sharing Pippin with us! Take good care!
Thank you for sharing your experience Julia🐱 Keep watching our content to keep up to date with Pippin, Mika and Bali😻 Take Care😊🐾
I was immediately drawn in by your expressions and interactions before i even turned the sound up. You are both so lovely ❤❤❤
Aww, I'm a dog person (dachshunds especially) but if I wasn't allergic to cat dander I'd love to have a little guy like this. They seem to have some of the traits I best love about dogs, like being cuddly and loving. Pip just gazed at you adoringly the whole time you were talking!
I’m allergic to cats too but we decided to adopt a three year old Main Coon that retired from a breeder. I haven’t had any allergy problems with her at all. Not sure why that is, but I’m very grateful because Ginger is the sweetest and most gentle creature I have ever met. When I’m laying in bed she loves to lay on my chest. It makes it hard to read but I don’t mind.
Get allergy meds, and low allergen cat food.
*BEST SOLUTION:* (but expensive) _Get a Siberian._ Maine Coons & Siberians & Norwegian Forest Cats are all very similar breeds, but the Siberian has the lowest allergen saliva of any cat. They are a little smaller than Maine Coons but also prettier. Same dog like behavior.
Get a Siberian
I have two Maine Coons. Half brother and sister (same father). Dooku (boy, two and a half years old), is a complete cuddle bunny with both me and my husband. He doesn't like strangers, but is very quick to befriend them. Always saying hello. His best friend is his sister, Luna (nearly two years), who doesn't like strangers. Hides, which is surprising to me and tends to be aloof. She's a lot better now. Took a long time for her to come out of her shell. She definitely a mummy's girl, whereas, Dooku is my husband's cat.
Big, beautiful fluffy Pippin
Thank you! 😊🐱
He’s such a cutie-love the tabby look. I ended up with a ragdoll, but it was a tough decision
Yep. I had one for 16 years. She was awesome. Smart too!!
Thanks for posting this, Pippin is a lovely cat!
Thank you so much! He is beautiful, no doubt🐾😻
He's so majestic, and affectionate. Great combination. I guess his beautiful coat needs to be regularly groomed and brushed. Thanks for sharing.
He's gorgeous and I don't blame you for being super biased I would be too if he was mine
Beautiful cat.. so friendly and sweet
Nice video and a really beautiful coonie 😊 congratulations!
I can tell living with norwegian forest cats ist just like that, also affectionate and very peaceful animals. It feels like they are the source of relaxed good mood, we have three of them and they really get anlong with any visitor and every Situation. Even new years fireworks don't scare them, they watch it. Its a pleasure and big enrichment to share our home with them 😊
Great information and a gorgeous cat, just like my Nicole in every way. She is a tabby and full of energy . She is now 19 years old and still acts like a kitten.
What a handsome and sweet fellow you have. We have a cat from rescue that is clearly part Maine Coon... He is 17 pounds in 3.5 years....sweet and so much fur :) My son moved to Maine USA and is considering getting one from a local breeder :)
Great video!!!! Very informative.
I have a Maine coon and she is the love of my life.
He's just absolutely gorgeous. I'm moving out of my country in about a month or so, I'll be in a position to get me one of those marvelous furballs
I'm in love! He's making me miss my Leopold who we lost to cancer earlier this year. He had the same markings and beautiful temperament
Very true my old maincoon Ceasar lived lying by his big boy most of all, any time I went for a nap or bed Ceasar had to hope up right next to me a rest. If I sat down on the couch to watch tv he was right there. I miss him very much he was my buddy.
He is a stunning cat!!
So beautiful. Maine Coon is one of my dream Cats to own
They are a dream!🥰
Be still my heart... He is a beauty! Just amazing! ❤❤❤❤
Just lovely!
idk why, but your ponytail is so cool! also thanks for the great video :)
Pippin is such a loving cat, can you imagine him sitting on you for a cuddle if he was as large as a German Shepherd? lol
Pippin is great! We used to have a Maine coon, Freddy. I would love another one, one day.
I'm super biased as well. We had two and they were the greatest! I agree with everything you said. Spot on! I'm from Maine, by the way. It was fun to watch them grow from kittens. Wonderful cats!
My Walter was 8 lbs at 6 months.
He goes for 2nd shots tomorrow We'll see how much he's gained.
His little sister is so different..
We got her at an age where she was still needing supplemental bottle feeding.
Very much more catlike, as you pointed out.
Walter actually still exhibits nursing behavior..
Making muffins under my beard.
It tickles and slightly hurts at the same time.
Like getting gently tattoed.
What a super handsome cat living his best and enjoying country life too!
Absolutely precious, gorgeous and obviously very intelligent. I like it when they are highly educated and attrasctive....and the same goes for the cat, lol. Just a little joke there, even though it is the truth. My Norwegian Forest cat watched this with me, and she gave such a cute vocalization when she saw Pippin. Hubby is truly blessed to be with these two.
Don’t you just luv a well trained owner😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
Beautiful 😻
😂! Brilliant! 🤩 🤣🤣🤣
Bro is handsome, can’t wait to finally have one.
The Bruce Forsythes of the cat world! The temperament looks wonderful, but though I have two sibling Maine Coon X Ragdolls I'm now a Norwegian Forest Cat woman all the way (which is what my youngest cat is) ... I just love their straight nose-bridges and slightly slanted almond-shaped eyes 😍. My boy is also huge and super-loving, too ... I've truly never known such an adoring cat. I only have to come into a room for him to start up his purr-motor!.
THAT look he gave you in yur eyes was priceless.......true love... just that brief moment, i caught it........
Marvelous cat!!🔥
We pick up our Maine Coon in two weeks. We are so excited! I have two little girls, 9 and 4 and we have another on baby the way (which we just found out about) so we are hoping our new boy and our baby will be the best of friends. We have an American Short Hair tuxedo male who is 6, right now and he *tolerates* our girls lol He enjoys pets from our 9 year old but still looks at our 4 year old as if she’s going to hit him lol needless to say we are all very excited.
Hey Alexa, how has it been going? It’s been 9 months now. Would love an update on your MC
I just stumbled onto your channel. There’s another channel that I’m subscribed to about Maine Coons, I’ve been with her (I believe) since she started her channel. She’s now on her 2nd litter from her smoke cat Luna. Luna’s “buddy” is a cream smoke/cameo named Buster. I have a real weakness for anything that is about Maine Coons. All that, to say I had one, named Greg, and a rescue, named Atticus for 6 years.
Now the hard part of the story:
I have moved to Italy, and where I’m living I can’t have pets, so I had to find them a home that would take them both because they were a bonded pair they grew up together from kittens. Fortunately I did, but I was a basket case driving to drop them off, driving back home, and for the next couple of days. They were both my “buddies”, but I’ll be honest, Greg was my favorite. If I was working at my desk, he made sure that he would be on top of the desk watching me, and then falling asleep. He always kept an eye on me. I miss them.
I do have a couple of questions:
1) Are you in the UK
2) How big is your flat
I plan on getting at least 1 more male Maine Coon with another rescue kitten, or what I would prefer brother and brother or at the least a brother and sister from the same litter. Not sure when, but soon. I really miss my “shadow”.
Can’t wait to watch your other videos.
Yes, we live in the UK. But not in a flat 😊
Adorable!❤️
Pippin seems like a real sweetheart.
Gorgeous!
My MC girl loves to roughhouse and still rarely scratches me - and then almost all the time it's her dew claw that she really can't control as much. I trust her more with rough play than I would any other cat. I I got some scratches when she was little and hadn't learned enough control yet, but gentle firm correction has gone a long long way.
She also loves to deeply sink her claws into things when she's kneeding, but never when they would go into someone - sometimes she'll have get up and move so she can do it without hurting anyone.
She's also much more outgoing than most cats, she often greets any guests I have over shortly after they come in (though she doesn't like the bustle of people coming in the door). To the point where she's licked people on the cheek within an hour of them being there, but carefully with just the tip of her tongue where it's less rough.
And while she isn't super cuddly, which I suspect is because she and I both run a bit warm and she overheats quickly, she does NEED her cuddle times... And she's usually within eyesight of me in the house, and if not then almost always where she knows if I move somewhere else in the house.
She's always been super play driven, and figured out very quickly that if she brings me a toy I'll throw it so she can chase - I wouldn't call it fetch though, because for a dog with fetch the praise of bringing the toy back is the reward but for her the chance to chase again is the reward.
The breeder I went through was local to me and able to invite the prospective owners over to help socialize kittens. So I've been able to.play and bond with her since she was super tiny - and her mom was trusting enough to lay against my leg for attention while also nursing the litter. A good breeder goes a long way on having a good socialized MC.
I would say she's the most considerate, gentle soul of a cat I've ever had - and a light in my life that has helped me get through some rough times. Boy MCs might be more of the lovable goofball, but the girls are just as special - and the best cats in the world.
love your post thank you...
What a beautiful baby!!!
Such a lovely cat ❤
I could not agree more. I only have Maine Coons. They are so dog like. Pinkerton, my Maine Coon follows me around everywhere. He was easy to train. The males are more sociable and I am a little biased on the color. I have had more orange colored Maine Coons and they have such a personality to them. You can not go wrong with a Maine Coon!
Aw cute! 100% you cannot😊🐱😻
He's a beauty, reminds me of my mom and dad's mainecoon from 10 years ago, weighed 20 lbs, my dad used to take him for walks using a dog harness/leash.
Mine's the same. I have a short hair that turned out to be bigger. They both love each other so much.
What a Handsome Boy!!
I just adopted 2 female mainecoon. 1y.o and 5 month. So cute
Brilliant ❤
My white maine coon arrives in 4 days I am so excited 😻
Apologises for the late response, how lovely, how's it going?😻🐾
having a cat is as close to a wild animal as I want to get to and having one love you is very amazing..they really do have that I am just letting you take care of me vibe and its fantastic..this is an absolute beauty of a cat..who trains whom...
He looks majestic, I want to buy one in the future
Thank you🐾🐱 You should definitely consider it🐾😻
I'm glad you said that because people have a thing that cats do not love that they only need you for your their food that they don't love you and they don't need you outside of that and I know cats do love you they show it my Lulu did
We’ve had two MC’s and neither accepted being brushed. Mats were a big problem and we had to get the lion cut once a year. They also didn’t like cuddling.
I get my first Maine Coon kitten on Dec 20, anc I can't wait. I'm so excited~!
Wow Melinda, that is exciting!😺 let us know how it goes🐾💙
You have a gorgeous cat that came from a responsible breeder. This is how this breed is supposed to look; there are other channels on here where the cats of this breed are of very long, scary faces and abnormal hair growth patterns. That comes from inbreeding of the parents. Don't ever buy one like that.
Beautiful ❤
100 million % agree...will never own another cat breed ❤❤❤ beautiful boy ❤❤❤
I started crying when I seen this video. He looks almost identical to my childhood cat Tinker who lived 17 years. The only difference is more white on the chest and a more triangular face. He was half Maine Coon half Norwegian Forest cat. When he was overweight, he was 50lbs but we got him down to a healthy weight of 30lbs. He was truly a gentle giant, insanely intelligent but pretty aloof. The only times he let me cuddle him was all the times I had to go outside ro carry him in because he was lazy. I miss him so much 😭😭❤❤RIP Tinker.
Beautiful.
Bless🤗❤️❤️
AWESOME !
He looks so much like our Opie we adopted. Amazing breed
So beautiful cat….
Lovely!!!
❤😂😊❤❤!!
He LOVES You. Reminds me of my siamese, he was such a Lover of anyone that we allowed into the house.
I agree love maine coon no other cat for me x
Too cute
Love Maine Coons!
