Game Details,
Echoes of the Living is an homage to classic survival horror games of the late 90’s, but with updated visuals, fully 3D environments and modern graphics. Your goal is to make it out of the city alive while uncovering the truth about the outbreak.
In 1996, A thick fog suddenly appeared in a small town located north of Europe. Shortly after, the residents became sick and began to panic. They had no idea what horrors were about to be unleased.
Those that were sick became aggressive and began to savagely mutilate people in the streets. The city descended into chaos. Hours later, all that could be heard was the echoes of the living…

These games would be so worth it if only they gave the option to play in different camera angles or at least let us unlock it. Aka 3rd person camera.

This pretty well done. But I have to say, the camera switches are pretty jarring. Especially in super small sections like when she turns that corner (1:57). Combat and controls are also pretty archaic. Pretty nostalgic, but I'm glad this type of gameplay died. Maybe it can continue to live in the AA or indie scene.

It's a such a small thing, but I absolutely love her stance when firing it's very cool. The legs are ever so slightly bent, giving it an edgy/aggressive feel.

This is delightful to watch. The environmental design, camera angles, character models, everything looks great to me. It's just awesome.
The controls hopefully got improved from the first demo and the stun-locking dogs :D But yeah, it's extremely good putting those issues aside.
Capcom should be taking notes. Instead of doing bs like the R3make.... .
I was 13 years old when the original Resident Evil was released and it blew me away. For me RE1 to 3 were RE at its peak, before the series went all action orientated. Tank controls, cinematic fixed camera angles and immersive atmospheric environments, I loved it all. Echoes of the Living is hitting so many nostalgia boxes for me right now, you can see the old school RE's influence in everything from the art direction to the sound track. I have not been this excited about a game in years!

@@chrisjonson3820RE4 was a good game in and of itself but to me was the beginning of the downfall to the franchise. It completely changed the formula and took it from a resource saving survival game to an action packed romp that got progressively worse with RE5 and ultimately RE6 until RE7 came along and completely changed that formula again.
This looks absolutely amazing. Classic RE games will always be the best RE games. The fixed camera angles with the horror soundtracks, there's just nothing like it. Laurel has a striking resemblance to Shenmei of Infinite Darkness.
I was ready to roll my eyes at another nostalgia grab but this looks to take all the best things about REmake and tightens that up even further with the inventory being well organized and no annoying door opening animations. Runs smooth and fast and still keeps the fixed camera angles to scratch the itch. Well done. I hope this comes to consoles!
Yeah it does look pretty decent. Better somehow than the first teaser videos I saw. Maybe they refined it a bit.
Personally, I loved the door animations. You don't understand how scary that was as a kid. Opening the door, not knowing what was on the other side. Obviously, it's a pain for newer audiences. Never forget after Barry discovers the blood and moving to the next room hearing that zombie, freaking out and heading back to Barry for him to kill it.
Whether you like it or not tank controls are objectively not favored by most gamers. Tank control should stay out of the main stream and for a handful of players. A lot of RE clones are out on steam with Tank controls and most of them don't sold well or even known to exist hell I doubt you even buy them. Even Resident Evil 1 remake in Steam dont sell much compared to modern RE.

RE should have been more like this from the jump. its more realistic to use weapons or objects as weapons to protect yourself in life or death situations. I hope this becomes a full game where you can do just that .

i'll will never get over not getting re2 and 3 remakes back on the gamecube, in the same engine as re1 remake and re0.
these remakes we got for 2 and 3 have no replay value for me whatsoever. they're decent for one playthrough and i never want to look at them again. re1 remake and 0 on the other hand, i've replayed multiple times and can always come back to them.
you probably already have it, but tormented souls is a really good indie game, the closest thing you'll find to a modern old-school style re game.
I truly do miss the static camera RE games. It would be nice to see RE9 like this.
RE2 Remake had good replay value. They messed up with the Tyrant though, as he was much more annoying and silly than frightening. RE3 Remake was a flop though, even though it had some good bits.
Although I do like and grew up with the classics (although new releases back then), the RE games are one of the best full fledged VR games you can get. So for me, I rather they stick to what they are doing now. Or include static views as an option. Capcom actually proves you can basically "have it all".
@@JustAnotherGamer1005 what i thought they should do is that they don't do a lower budget re series like they did with revelations, but make classic style re games with somewhat modern visuals instead. i feel like those would probably sell better than revelations, since many classic re fans have been asking for it.
they could still remake 2 and 3 in the same engine as re1 remake, and even though that engine is highly outdated now, many fans would buy them.
i would gladly pay $60 a piece for them and i'm sure many others would as well. i would get so much more enjoyment out of those than the remakes we did get. you'd think it would be pretty cheap to make those now, but they'd still make a ton of money from them.

Man, the old school aesthetics paired with the modern tech is just... Mmm! Yummy. We need more of that kind of compromise... like with the new Star Ocean 2 remake. That's also a game that blends the old and the new near seamlessly.

i hope that independent developers make more and more of these classic survival horror games with tank control and all of that nostalgic factors. over the shoulder view is more action oriented, but the classic tank control and fixed cams are more immersive and mysterious. i love them.

As I expected from a hardcore RE fan project this looks genuinely proper. It may not be triple A, but I'd love to see what would be possible if it was. Will certainly be picking this up.
This is all I wanted from the original recent remakes aka re2... Just a remake like RE1. But nope, we have to please a different fanbase now. At least someone knows what we wanted. Looking forward to this game.

This is an impressive project, especially if it's only being developed by two people! There is of course a large amount of homage to REmake and RE2, but I enjoyed the tweaks to the inventory to make it easier to manage. I think these types of games with pre-rendered backgrounds still look extremely impressive and allow even smaller teams to create highly detailed environments. If the animations and lighting were a little more complex, it could easily fool you into thinking it was a AAA project you missed a few years ago.

I played the first demo that stops after the first boss. immediately made it on my wish list on steam. I love these kind of games. And the fact that resident evil 2 was the first game i played my PS1 makes it more amazing for me ;)

The enviroment, the angles and especially the lighting look awesome! The scenery gives really good vipes but the character design and modelling looks... well.. too cliché, too boring and forgetable. That is sadly a huge downgrade for me. They look so generic that i can´t imagine to build a bond or even could be interested in their story. But nevertheless awesome work! I really love that there are people out there who do fixed camera angle, tank control games like old RE. Thank you so much and looking forward to it!

Melee weapons are a thing, main character isn’t taking literally every melee weapon in the galleries to the item box for better storefor later use.
Dawning the armor would also prevent unwelcome hickies from amorphous lovers of the cannibal kind.

I'm super into this. Didn't even know it existed til right now and I will be trying this demo tonight. There is something about that old school RE move mechanic that makes these games way more intense in a good way. Once you master the tank controls its really satisfying to move around. And I liked the fixed camera angles. This seems like a perfect throw back to that style of survival horror.

This is why I loved Tormented Souls so much. Its the old school fixed cam that makes it so good. Glad to see more games are coming back to their roots.

As a long time Resident Evil fan (I'm talking day 1.....1990's......RE1) I've got to say.........this game makes me tingle with nostalgia and at the same time makes me absolutely THIRSTY for more of these beautiful graphics, gameplay and story. This is AMAZING!!!!

I Love how it went for the 3rd Person of Late 90s to early 2000's Style of Gameplay Very Nostalgic feel for me since I played Resident Evil/Biohazard on My DS alot back then also on our PC.
I think it would be a neat feature. When you're injured, and aim, your accuracy comes down due to pain or panic. Or at least for harder difficulties.

This reminds me so much of RE 0, RE1R and RE Code Veronica all in one with updated graphics. Great job, only suggestion is to speed up the grab animations so it looks more natural. And nerf the pipe it looks too OP like I could pipe my way through the entire game lol. Other than that this looks amazing. I'd buy it day one.
pipes should be temporary weapons that you can kill a couple zombies with before it breaks.

Literally what I wanted out of a remake of the older resident evil games. What we got was fine and certainly a step in the right direction, however this imo would have been equally better as it still captures the core of the og gameplay but refines it and polishes it. Idk I'm just a sucker for the og Resident Evil games and was always a fan of the remake of the first resident evil for game cube.
How I missed those old school RE games, uncertainty behind every closed doors, eerie atmosphere, blood and gore, Bring back such games.

Ill definitely buy this game. The only criticism i have for it is that i think you should add like a 6-8 second animation everytime you open a door for some more immersion.
maybe you can add a face lips mouvement like she's angry when she's aim or when ennemys are too close

I'd have more respect for games like this if they even tried to have their own theme or personality. Literally everything feels like a copy and paste knock off. Cant just copy a whole game and call it a spiritual successor or some shit just to make it sound nice.

I was NOT expecting to get right into this! This looks fabulous. All the good things about the old style RE games with RE2 remake style graphics... exactly what I didn't know I needed! I loved the RE2 remake, but I also missed the fixed camera angles, music for each room, etc. It just adds so much atmosphere to a survival horror game : )
So, love the score, the character design, and the callouts to other majors in the SH genre - the 'Alone in the Park' poster, the 'Umbrella' umbrella, the nasty toilet and Laurel saying 'No way am I touching that, only a maniac...' which I assume is homage to James from SH2 putting his hand in a toilet considering the 'James was here!~" on the wall... lol.
I'm gonna keep an eye on this as I'd very much like to play it.
Looks really soulless to me, from the few minutes of gameplay I saw there was no original idea but rather rehashes from older resi games. The assets look cheap, the zombies behave weird, there is no signs of damage on the zombies, like bullet wounds or even missing limbs (something which was done in the og resident evil 1 or 2), the ui looks abysmal. I don't really get the hype, people got blinded by nostalgia I guess
People get blinded by idea. Personally I'd like to see RE spin off series that work and look like classic games. But this, despite being so similar to OG RE trilogy and CV, looks and feels so off. Main characters are AI generated I guess.
