Backstreet Gents from the UK react to Epica and Floor Jansen from Nightwish singing one of the greatest Latin hymms of all time - Stabat Mater Dolorosa!
The Stabat mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi is a setting of the medieval poem of the same name for alto, soprano, strings and basso continuo. This is the best-known sacred work by the Italian composer and was written in 1736, a few weeks before his death.
@@BackstreetGents Yes, the composer died of tuberculosis at the age of 26. He finished this piece on his deathbed. Very sad story and a wonderful brilliant piece of art.
It is rather great that metal fans at an Epica gig, in between listening to plenty of high octane rock, can stand rapt by watching 2 of the best metal singers ever, singing an 18th-century classical piece. You like what you like of course, but this is a great change of pace within a concert scenario.
Classic music is the base of all music. Floor and Simone studied opera and on the party of Epica with a orchestra it isn’t a bad idea to show your skills. Great singers.
@@BackstreetGents Sancta Terra is only for Floor fans :) For us Epicans, some proper Epica please! For example "Universal Death Squad". If you want something different than all other reactors, try "Death of a Dream" or "Semblance of Liberty", you can find both with lyrics.
We don't want Epicans to feel left out! We'll go ahead and react to one of those three songs you've requested. It'll be up on our channel within a few months.
You have to appreciate the talent of these 2 ladies. Don't have to be a fan of classical, just have to admire great music. Would this go on my playlist - no. Does this make my ears feel good and mind relax - yes.
You're right. They're both very talented. I guess it's difficult for us to relax too much when we're reacting to something. We're too busy racking our brains trying to formulate our opinions.
@@BackstreetGents Btw, this performance is more of a showcase of Simone's and Floor's vocal abilities. Since it was the 10th anniversary concert of Epica (called Retrospect) and they already had a full orchestra on stage, they wanted to make a good use of it. It's a shame that so many people today can't appreciate the beauty of operatic soprano. It's a step-up from the usual pop-rock vocals which you can hear literally everywhere. It requires a rigorous training. Yes, belting can be impressive too, bud damn, these two ladies can not only belt but also use operatic vocals. Wonderful! In combination with orchestral instruments and some heavy metal music, it's pure epicness :) That's symphonic metal. Speaking about music periods, Stabat Mater is a Baroque piece, not Classical. If you wanna hear something from the same concert (with live orchestra), you can try "Unleashed" (official live) or "Chasing the Dragon" (Live Retrospect).
We've had a lot of comments requesting Sancta Terra. We look forward to reacting to it very soon. Thanks for the interesting information about them both being sopranos. We'll make a note of that when we react to it.
Been to a concert (exams of Floor for the rock academy)of Revamp. There was some classical singing. All the metalheads (me included)went nuts. I'm a metal fan and had classical singing lessons for years, so that's not so strange. A lot of metal music and prog rock is based on classical music.
its a demonstration from vocals domination ....they are perfect
Their singing is very impressive. No question about that.

Good point. We were just judging it purely on the classical piece.

They certainly did show their skills. Floor will be showing off more of her skills in our next reaction video next Tuesday.
@@BackstreetGents pls do also more Epica. This band is from a total other dimension!
@@fritsyt2090 We've got a few Epica songs on our 'to do list'. Feel free to request a particular song.
Sancta Terra from the same Retrospect live show is a metal duet with Simone & Floor. Definitely worth a view 🤘
Sancta Terra with Simone & Floor reaction will be coming to our channel very soon.

Also at the show they also combined for a more symphonic metal song called Sancta Terra and Floor and Simone killed it.
We've had a lot of requests for Sancta Terra. We can't wait to react to it!
Good reaction Bro ✌💥🙋♂️
Big up
You will hear the Epica band with Floor in the other song Sancta Terra. And note that Floor is taking the lower part although they are both sopranos.

God forbid we open our ears and minds to anything other than metal music.
Sorry if it came across that way.
Don't know if you have heard Epica - kingdom of heaven pt3 (omega alive). If not, that one should get your attention. A masterpiece in my opinion 😁.
We haven't heard it but we'll be happy to react to it. Keep an eye out for it on our channel in the coming months.

Interesting about the link between metal music and classical music.
This was a kind of interlude part way through a 3 hour concert, a well deserved break for the band
this is breakdown
That makes perfect sense then. We were just judging it purely on the classical piece without taking anything else into consideration.
Can you react to kollegah zeitgeist ? Second part is in english
Yep! Coming soon!
