Thanks for watching the video Epica Stabat Mater Dolorosa feat Floor Jansen LIVE - First Listen/Reaction - Hudba
Please note - you have NOT yet listened to the true spirt of Epica. They are a (heavy) symphonic metal band. This three hour concert was to celebrate their 10th anniversary - hence the expense of a full orchestra & choir. This beautiful performance by two wonderfull ladies comprises just a few minutes of calm - to see the real Epica - watch another track from the event
Image that at a Metal concert lol but there it is. I could imagine sipping some fine Vino Wine looking at the sunset listening to this. Simone Simons Is in Ayreon songs along with Floor and many others. There's a lot with Epica Metal progressive or Symphonic with growls clean vocals plus much more great band.
Simone Simon was in Aeryon The day the world breaks down
You don’t see Epica in this one. It’s only the singer. This song is amazing, but without the band. This is from a 3 hours concert with orchestra and choir. My 2 favorite female singers. Beautiful. Epica is a (Symphonic) Metal band. A good one is “The Skeleton Key” live from their live-stream concert “Omega Alive”. Simone Simons sings also sometimes for “Ayreon” Thank you for this reaction.
Tears in my eyes Tod. Really BEAUTIFUL what these 2 NIGHTINGALES sing.
What a gift 💖 There are many good singers / singers but Our FLOOR can really sing many genres, not many can do that. Thank you and have a nice day. Greetings from the Netherlands ❤🤍💙🇳🇱🙋🏼♀️
Floor AND Simone. Simone is out of this world... in songs like "Cry For the Moon" and many others. Pure beauty.
I love Floor but only Simone and Tarja can bring tears to my eyes.
Simone Simons is a great singer. You watched her in Ayreon . Next ‘ Sancta Terra’ , same concert, again Floor and Simone. Epic. Greetings from The Netherlands
Hi Piet, i 200% agree, Todd has to listen to that miraculous piece as well and share it with us! Then he will understand what the core dynamic of Epica is all about. Greetings from Hengelo NL. Stay safe!
Thank you Piet, see I thought I recognized her.

@@MusicWithToddLedbetter I'm so glad you haven't reacted to Sancta Terra yet :D
"Unchain Utopia" and "Universal Death Squad" are much better representation of Epica. I'm glad you just reacted to them.
Sancta Terra is only recommended by Floor fans, not because they really like the song, but only because Floor is in it.
Anyway, I hope you're going to do much more Epica. This band is incredible. There's a beautiful journey ahead of you ;)
Floor and Simone also do along with the band Epica Sancta Terra which is more Symphonic Metal with Orchestra and Choir added
Simone and Floor singing a beautiful piece by Pergolesi, accompanied by a full live orchestra. Simone also sung Ombra Mai Fu by Haendel in the live CD The Classical Conspiracy. Gorgeous.
Although I wouldn't say this is really Epica, more like the band appreciating classical music and giving their audience a bit of a taste of where they took their inspiration from, if you will.
Floor jansen , O Mio Babbino Caro , this is her sing opera.
Yes you saw Epica' s leadsinger in a Ayreon reaction, the song Isis and Osiris live. She was there during that show doing more songs.
Epica is a dutch band and has a much harder edge in their sound including grunts on a lot of songs. But they have also beautiful ballads and everything in between. Simone Simons has the brightest soprano voice.
That was three in a row, happy day's, Nightwish, Floor with Henk Poort, Epica, ( that was for today) Ayreon, Wintersun,, My list is slowly growing but Nightwish!! My first favourite band in my life, after 62 years!!!!!,
Within Temptation, Sharon & Anneke "Somewhere" czcams.com/video/ScjEJRIZGvg/video.html
Within Temptation, Sharon & Tarja " Paradise" czcams.com/video/8vsKQTfxf80/video.html
Tarja Turunen & Floor Jansen " Over the hills" czcams.com/video/57WsNYItbSU/video.html
After Forever - Beyond Me - czcams.com/video/ZjtzvMEdnN8/video.html - for both Floor & Sharon
If it's Harmony you like O'G3ne is a must hear the 3 Dutch sisters are so Harmoneous together very awesome.
Thank you for doing this. You still haven't experienced the full force of Epica, and it's really worth it. But this is actually one of my favorite tracks from them. It is the first movement of a longer suite, the “Stabat Mater”, composed in 1736 by Giovanni Pergolesi. It is based on a 13th century hymn about Mary mourning her crucified son. Pergolesi was suffering from tuberculosis, and died the day he completed the suite. He was only 26 years old. “Stabat Mater” is written for soprano and contralto, though the contralto line is often performed by a counter-tenor. In the Epica version, Floor Jansen does the contralto line, which is just mind-blowing in itself given that she normally performs in the soprano register. While they sing, the arena full of metalheads are reduced to stunned silence.
The Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, composed in 1735, a masterpiece on its own, sung during a more than two hour long metal concert by Simone and Floor.
Not exactly the harmony you mentioned but If you like to see Floor in a more operatic style you could react to "Phantom of the Opera" with Henk Poort, who is a famous Dutch baritone and was the Dutch Phantom and according to A.L. Webber, the best. It's from the Dutch tv- series Beste Zangers (Best Singers) 2019 and "Vilja Lied" (from the Merry Widow). In the series several famous Dutch singers come together and sing songs from each other or to each other. Every episode one of them is the "star" and the others sing songs to her/him which have a special meaning that singer. The last episode of every series is a duet one. Floor sang "Vilja Lied" to Henk. When Floor asked Henk, whom she admired from a very young age, to sing the Phantom he said yes on one condition....that he could sing this on stage with NW when they were to play two concerts in Amsterdam in 2020. And of course Floor said yes! Unfortunatily due to the pandamic those concerts have not happened yet.
Sancta Terra, live with Floor.
Both singers performed on several Ayreon albums and in the live concerts.
Sancta Tera from the same concert is also great. It features Floor, too, as well as the rest of the members of Epica, who sat this one out. The singer for Epica is Simone Simons…and yes, you saw her in an Ayreon live video. It just occurred to me that there is another song/video you would probably enjoy…Floor and Marko doing Ave Maria at a Christmas concert. Really lovely.
Fantastic reaction, Epica great band Simone and Floor are close friends, you can see when they perform thanks
A classical piece in an metal concert. Only these two can pull that off!
Sublime...Floor and Simone...beautiful
Epica “unleashed “ check it out!
Epica is another but different symphonic band as they also use a growling vocalist. Lead singer is a friend of Floor's called Simone Simons and another member of the band, Mark Jansen was in one of Floor's previous bands, After Forever.
Yes, you have seen the ginger singer before in some Ayreon songs. Simone Simmons is a recurrent Arjen Lucassen collaborator, as Floor is.
BTW, this is an Epica ten anniversary show, and it is a powerful metal concert. What a great respect for the music that crow has! 👏👏👏
@Todd: Now you have a first idea of the 2nd unbelievable Symphonic Metal Band EPICA and Simone Simons, the siren of Metal. NOW you should really do an EPICA song :D Best and most epic one - "Kingdom of Heaven Part 3" (Omega Alive) czcams.com/video/BdBCVMD8TiM/video.html - THIS is Epica!!! The Stabat mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi is a setting of the medieval poem of the same name for alto, soprano, strings and basso continuo. This is the Italian composer's best-known sacred work and was written in 1736, a few weeks before his death.
Queued up.
Epica is number 1
You should react to them doing Sanct Terra. Simone was in Aeryon The day the world breaks down. I also like Floor singing O Mio Bambino Caro at a Revamp concert. Shoemaker on the new album Floor sings an operactic part at the end. It's about Eugene Shoemaker and she also does a part in Ad Astra
Yes, this WAS from an Epica concert, and the redhead (Simone Simons) IS the lead singer of Epica, but this is a very unusual example in that the band itself was taking a break. This was an operetta-like piece the girls wanted to sing with the orchestra. Stabat Mater Dolorosa is Latin (obviously) for "The Sorrowful Mother Was Standing" referring to Mary at the foot of the cross. It is a 13th Century Christian hymn first set to music in the mid 1400's, although the exact composership is disputed. Epica, itself, is a symphonic metal band that is, on the overall average, quite a bit heavier than Nightwish with more male growling vocals. Simone is a sweet-voiced mezzo-soprano on a par with Floor. And obviously they are good friends in private life.
i would suggest song from their latest album EPICA - KINGDOM OF HEAVEN PT 3 - (ΩMEGA ALIVE) (OFFICIAL VIDEO), that would give you better introduction to Epica. In this video was just Simone Simons and Floor with orchestra
Great performance - as always. Maybe you could do next: Nightwish „Stargazers“ (live from Tampere)
Dallas Green.... A good Canadian talent. I like City and Colour - Mostly heard Fragile Bird and a few others on the radio.
I will check out your Reaction video.
I love all his albums
🙏🙏🙏🌀🌀🌀🔥🔥🔥
You saw two weeks ago Simone SImon in Ayreons The Day That The World Breaks Down, as the Counselor. The music of Epica is generally a bit louder than this medieval piece :-)
This one is beautiful. Love it, but if you really want to be blown away by Simone and Floor with the band, orchestra and choir, check out Sancta Terra!
Stabat Mater Dolorosa ( pronounced "Stahbot Mahtear Dolorosa" ) = "Stood the Mother, full of grief" ---- the hymn describing the Virgin Mary's sorrow at Jesus's crucifixion........Pergolesi knew he was dying ( at age 26 ) as he completed the piece.......originally composed for 1 soprano voice, 1 alto voice and a 4 piece chamber accompaniment.....and, of course, sung in Latin.....well known in the classical repetoire.......
nice that you're doing this song with floor great song but then you haven't seen or heard epica yet, to start easy I'd choose this one EPICA - Unleashed (OFFICIAL LIVE) same concert as this video they play with orchestra and choir, be warned this band also has growling vocals by mark jansen in some songs and heavy music that you have to get used to but the contrast between her beautiful oparatic voice and his growls is really good! makes many songs really black and white, but if you don't like it after a few songs just move on, a good song with some growls Epica - The Essence Of Silence (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO)
Floor gets to show her excellent lower register in her voice.
and now the same one with " sancta terra "
“Sancta Terra” from the same concert then you get Epica and Floor, this is just the Orchestra with Simone Simmons and Floor.
One of the takeaways from this performance is that genre boundaries are bulls**t. As Henk Poort said during an episode of Beste Zangers, "good music is good music." The fact that this crowd of metalheads quiets down to appreciate this performance is testimony to that. BTW, watch "Sancta Terra" from this same concert to get more Floor and Simone in Epica's usual style.
This was 3h show, 26 songs, most of them way better than santa terror. Cnt understand the hype of it.
Chasing the Dragon, Serenade of Self Destruction, Unleashed, Twin Flames aso, those were the gems from Retrospect
