i enjoyed DA 2 emensly, i dont care what people say about it :)
It was a massive piece of shit, but good characters carried it really well
I actually enjoyed DA2 in terms of story more than I did DA1. DA1 had a larger scope, yes, but it was ultimately you vs the grandest of evils and saving the world, blah blah blah, same story we've heard a hundred times over. DA2 story was more subtle, with more interesting characters and a conflict where neither side was good and right. It presented me with far more difficult moral decisions and had me more gripped overall. Sure, in terms of gameplay mechanics, DA1 stands above DA2 head and shoulders, but that wasn't the point of the game for me. I didn't mind he rehashed enviroments as long as it told a great story, which it did.
A lot of people complain about it because it is a step backwards on some aspects compared to origins, yet that doesn't mean it is a bad game.
Same here! And now that DAI is out, all the DA2 haters are kicking themselves because w/o DA2, DAI wouldn't have happened.

The story for the game was solid, but the level design could have been less recycled.
I agree. Weakest part of this game had to be level design.
I think the plot could have used some fixing up and more personal dialogue with companions, but yeah.
I think the biggest problem people had was just the recycling of dungeons and the fact that Hawke wasn't like he Inquisitor or the Warden. Not a "hero."
+Rowan Buchanan I think Hawke being a person as opposed to a chosen one was good. It was more like mass effect, in that you don't really play you. In inquisition and origins your character can be you, but Hawke is a character in his own right. His tragedy is a really great story. Think about it. His father is dead. His sibling may as well be (or is, I got lucky and brought Anders). His mother is killed, Gamlen is a dick, and he ends up dead in inquisition anyway, leaving his romance parter alone.
Wouldn't have been if EA didn't make them rush.

I remember watching an episode of Teen Wolf with Gideon Emery, when he started talking I almost jumped out of my chair in surprise. For the rest of the episodes I called him Fenris, because I had a hard time remembering his name ( Ducalion I think?)

(Honestly, though, I actually think he could be too OP to put in a balanced party)

I'm hella impressed with Meredith's voice actress. She brings in a lot of emotion, and that makes her more than just a crazy tyrant.
What do you mean? She’s a mustache twirl and a Dr. Evil laugh away from a Saturday morning cartoon villain! It’s indicative of the poor writing in 2: rather than honestly depict the conflict between the mages and the Templars, all the mages are innocent little victims with no agency and all the Templars are cruel, vindictive, and bloodthirsty...not to mention morons for keeping hold of the red lyrium.

Gideon Emery is amazing. I remember him on Grimm playing phoenix-type Wesen, doing the voice of the suave and sarcastic Sky Pirate Balthier on Final Fantasy XII, and a few other things. He is an amazing voice actor in this game as well.
Jean gilpin as Meredith was by far one of my favourite voice actors in dragon age 2. Odd that she is so under appreciated by da fans. She did a tremendous job. There were times that she swayed me to believe that she was the only sane person in Kirkwall and everyone else was crazy! I replayed da2 and this city of Kirkwall was the zaniest place ever!! Oddly humorous and oddly frightening. Meredith I secretly believe was driven insane not by red lyrium but by the blissfully happy decent of the population of that city into madness and chaos. The lyrium only helped ease the pain. As Anders once wrote Meredith is a loonie. But a magnificent loonie at the end.
The best part of this game is voice acting, I will never forget femHawke’s anxious voice when she found out her mother dead..

I didn't realize how different Cullen's voice was in Inquisition until now. Its deeper, with more thought to control his tone.

What I find amazing about dragon age 2 is that a game that takes place in a small area sounds rather boring, but the story kept it very interesting. Even with all the recycled dungeons, I still couldn't get enough. That's great storytelling. Tho I will say, as a huge dragon age fan, DA2 is ranked the lowest.

I’d played DA2 a few times when I was younger but never finished it, I always ended up replaying DA:O but recently I decided to play 1 story through all 3 games to refresh for the next game, I honestly enjoyed DA2 so much and got to finally complete the story, for the Mage Rebellion!

Mark Meer is very good in voice acting: vorcha, dark spawns in awakening, elf from DAO and I could never tell that this is the voice of Shepard, they all sound differently

Only reason why I played this disgustingly simple game 4 times was the excellent characters and magnificent storylines that they had!
DA:I is even more amazing as a game but it just lacks the personal depth with it's stories, than what DA2 had.

I wonder anyone will sent Fenris back to be slave of Danarius when Fenris says "I need you, Hawke" in the most heartbreaking voice. And Fenris is hardest character to romance in Dragon Age series especially when I play as a mage but it's so WORTH it when he says "I'm yours", it's more than I love you.

I love the voice talent in these games. It’s so nice to hear such classical British voice acting in a game.
I must have played DA2 at least four times. Definitely my favourite playthrough of the story so far. I always romance Fenris, it takes more effort so it seems more realistic. Love his voice though.

This was my favorite game of the series. The banter between characters was always entertaining. I hope they bring fenris and varric back in the next game (4). I had hoped they would have included fenris in the inquision but sadly not. Also why do they not allow varric to be a love interest in the storyline?

Really late to the party, but I just realised that Flemeth is voiced by Red from Orange is the New Black!! Amazing discovery, now I like the character even more
I love that BioWare pretty much chooses from the same pool of voice actors for every game they do lol. Not a shade to them or anything, because the voice actors they have are incredibly talented.
I'm replaying DA2 6 years later and it's SO MUCH BETTER than I remembered. I did like it on release but was disappointed at the same time, and looking back on it I realize that it was because of my expectations post Origins. Also replaying made me realize how good the writing is across three games.
Bioware are really onto something. Their newest games have shown they've improved so much at level design and environments, however they've diminished the cinematic feel and added open worlds that are absolutely beautiful, but a bit too vast and empty. They just need to strike the perfect balance.
