On the Clayface front, my wife and I have a lovely prediction that Clayface wants to have a bomb in his head, so he can have a dramatic death scene... and then just reform after the explosion. It would be very on brand for the 'over actor' version of the character.
That’s a great idea…
I assumed they’d have some explanation of how the bomb stayed within his clay form from a chemical perspective… but I like that even an explanation would be pointless because of his ability to reform, ala a Liquid Metal terminator taking grenades centermass
Extra Clayface is best Clayface . Other than Stephanie, of course.
I suspect he or Peacemaker are Amanda's moles. One because it was impossible to put a bomb on Clayface and second due to Peacemaker in movie kill Rick Flag.
He did a Terminator thumbs up reference while "melting" in his trailer.
Harley and the princess have the same character design , so her interest with her is to eventually swap places with her.
Prince and the pauper shenanigans incoming
I feel that's going to last exactly as long as it takes for Harley to realize there's no TV or what the music is like.
How much money do I need to give Viola Davis to recreate the Waller dance?
She'll mess around and do for Halloween on her own
THIS!!! This was my exact thought the first time I saw the outro. The world NEEDS this
I think social media requests would be enough.
5 Dollah
the deadshot x ratcatcher backstory bit was the funniest shit and my favorite part of the series so far, beating out the joker car that's apparently operated by playing piano.
Lol I love the piano car!
I was like wtf does he do if he needs to make an unexpected turn and apparently he just presses all the keys lol
back shot catcher dead rat story would be a lot worse.
But they could cast Richard Gere.
The piano car is extremely macross seven, and I'm here for i t.
JOKER MOBILE!
He gotta out wierd Batman somehow.
"happens to be one of my very few good homies" is an incredible line, I will absolutely using this next time I introduce a friend to someone.
It’d be racist if it was an American cartoon…
But as an anime it’s *insert fassbender meme
@chriswest7873 is that racist even?
And then when they ask you where you got that from they’ll no longer want to be friends
@@chriswest7873
Because this is a Japanese production.
We have to Razor the situation and blame it more on Well-intentioned ignorance.
Smooth Criminal Clayface is so funny to me lol
Lol I'm still not over it
@@CasuallyComicsI’m loving it as the Japanese VA for Clayface is the same VA as Muzan from Demon Slayer who is also a renowned Michael Jackson impersonator
@@Notthebloodgod812 nah dude not the same Japanese VA
Hee hee
The way I think the clayface bomb would work is its basically a freeze bomb, seeing you can't really kill them, but you can immobilize them
And you could lampshade it with some sort of explanation that it's setup in a way that if he tries to move it too much it goes off. Maybe there's two components that if they get too far apart from each other it triggers the bomb... or whatever. "Because comics" and "because anime" are two reasons that easily work together
As someone who is a big fan of both western comics and anime, although i am enjoying the series i do feel there is a bit of a tonal clash in the show. The characters are pulled from western comics and while their personality traits from prior iterations are present, there are times when the show itself makes them talk like generic anime characters. Including the high fantasy element from the isekai portion of the show that plagues too many other anime and it feels like the show so far is somewhat of a jack of all trades and a master of none.
The way Joker and Harley talk about each other was the weird thing to me. Reminds me of people that saw them in the movie and kept calling it "goals."
Calling it now: Harley and the Princess are gonna switch places at some point for plot reasons. The princess probably realized that she and Harley look similiar.
And the bombs have a timer now? Why? Shouldn't they be remote controlled?`
I'm genuinly interested now in what japanese audiences, if they actually watch it, think about this.
I immediately clocked their resemblance too I think a princess swap could be fun
It is remote controlled but there is also a timer that is reset every few days (only if the bombs are close enough to get the signal that resets it) in case they manage to escape, but is more there to stop them from trying to escape in the first place. Unfortunately they lose contact with the original world so their goal is to get back so the timer can be reset
If nothing else, this along with those official DC Manga should show DC to take chances. And time for us to put our money where our mouths are. I've always seen rumblings of "The comic industry should be doing what the manga and anime industry are doing. That'll boost sales, etc., etc." Well, let's see how it works out.
Personally, I'm starved for animated DC shows, so I went at this thing like a caged rat seeing its first piece of cheese in months.
Amen
i want to give you my like but... the number
I don't imagine this is what people had in mind when they say a statement like that.
We mean business practices and some editorial approaches, not just aping manga/anime outright. X-Men '97 is what we're talking about contentwise.
Ending dance is amazing, and Calli's song is legit great. The show itself- it's cotton candy. Fun and light and nothing more. Clayface is best boy though.
Her watch party was fun, I was happy for her!
Feeling Some Kind Of Way? Amanda Waller dance in the ending sold me. This series already does a better job in capturing the tone Suicide Squad is. Silly & goofy with a touch of being a complete disjointed mess of a team. But when it counts, are seriously deadly in terms of getting the job done.
Obviously feelings will change as the series goes on, but as is by itself, is fine.
I mean, technically that’s a new thing for Suicide Squad, same with how the GotG are only recently goofy.
But it still works, so it’s fine.
James Gunn did an awesome take too. Not a lot of people watched his SS movie because it came out during the "coof"
I've been a die hard Suicide Squad fan for almost 20 years now (I'm only 26) and I very much enjoy the show, I was gonna watch it anyway but I'm glad they are having fun with it and it looks great imo
Ever since 2013 New 52 suicide squad, I've been devouring anything task force X
I’m liking it so far. I’m curious where it goes, and the ending is a pop who would’ve thought Waller could move it.
So I couldn't switch the show over to English, it just wasn't in my audio options (I probably had to go find it instead of clicking the recommend shows one that oped up as I do then to watch sub), and in the Japanese audio Peacemaker is literally counting down the seconds in his head so whenever someone asks how long he counts down a bit out loud and tells the the exact time remaining instead of just saying "we have exactly 30 hours right this moment." I think I like the Japanese version a bit more, feels like he is doing more to know that timing.
My hope of high member of the opposing side would be Poison Ivy, and that is why Waller chose Harley as a foil.
@@DuskyPredator the look of the character and the green magic imply enchantress, but could work with ivy honestly except I’m pretty sure the emperor/lead villian is the one they tortured to open the portal which is more inline with enchantress
8:05 Oswald Cobblepot.
Emperor Penguin.
For the pun alone I hope you're right
Your outfit is str8 fire
Right? High class
I fall squarely in that third camp - someone marginally familiar with Suicide Squad and Isekai anime - and for me it does work well. It's fun and silly, experimenting more with the "what-if" of mashing up the two genres rather than trying to dig too deep on either, which I like. After years of both DC media and Anime being packed full of so much angst and pathos it's nice to be able to just watch something and enjoy it for it's own entertainment's sake.
I can understand the iskei burnout because, at least in the anime circles, you get like three generic versions of them per season the last handful of years and they are all starting to blend together.
Combine that with the suicide squad overdosing and i can see folks getting tired real quick.
Even the Isekei titles are getting more outlandish and poking fun at the tropes of their own genre
ok but there's ONE important question to be had here... does Katana have my back?
My one only real gripe is how they got an explosive device into clay face without him just phasing it out of him or how would a small explosion even kill him. Maybe his are nanites that heat him up from the inside out
Either that or Clayface doesn’t care and just wants a dramatic death scene
As a non-watcher of the show, I can say the SS character that has most entertained me in the clips is King Shark. Not only is he constantly eating people whole, but his costume choice of suspenders amuses me.
He also takes lots of naps
Waller: Let me break it down for you all Task Force X....
(Waller Fortnite Dances)
Two things that I check out every time, but know it's overplayed by big companies, Suicide Squad and Isekai Anime.
(Also, your top is like Zatanna meets Ashley from The Boys)
The people who are upset about the Amanda Waller dance are the same people who praised the Peacemaker dance.
No one praised the Peacemaker dance, they're all equally cringe
I praised the Peacemaker dance and I'm horrified of Amanda Waller Dancing. Like I know she's normally supposed to strike fear into people but seeing her dance is horrifying.
I doubt that. Seems more like a "muh canon" crowd kind of thing.
really? i thought its more the opposite. people who like the peacemaker dance also like the waller dance since they both embrace fun and quirkiness
I think the more accurate comparison would be they are the same people who praised the joker stair dance
Waller was truly busting it down
To me, Is the perfect 8/10 sometimes in a same episode, the cuality Is a 7 o 7.5 AND others Is a 8.5, i really enjoyed overall. AND that ending Is glorius. PS: english Is not my native language
Are You On Board The SS:Isekai?
No. The prison episode was so boring and i haven't been a big fan of the voice cast or clayface being on the sqaud for no reason. There's just a lot of issues i'm having with the writing
Feels really generic, and the Isekai genre is already done to death
Yep! I love it
Yes.
...much better than Batman Ninja.
nope :p
Came for the follow up of the previous video, stayed cause I like the outfit you had on; the fashion part of my brain doesn’t want to be ignored for some reason!
I get the feeling they might use Clayface more as a character that would appear in Gintama, which is a high target to shoot for but great if they can pull it off. I find it interesting how other cultures interpret parts of another country's culture- sometimes it can make you really look at things completely differently. Just a nitpick though Sasha- the audio sounded a bit tinny, almost like a submerged/subdued sound (although this could just be something on my end).
Probably to allow clips being played without getting flagged for copyright.
I'll check this out. Thanks for letting me know about it.
I think it was a missed opportunity to have the Isekai would be either Warwrold or Kamandi's possible future Earth. The whole gimmick of the genre is to play on a regular human going to a fantasy land and learning the ropes. But by this point it has become just generic fantasy RPG land.
Would have been cool since you get to play with the unfamiliar nature of either of these option both for the character's being transported and the audience too. Be it Americans or Japanese as the primary audience, both would get to experience similarly this show.
I also think that it's not a coincidence that the princess looks a lot like Harley. I'm getting vibes they would do a prince and pauper angle later
As a regular viewer of this channel, I’m amused that one of my favorite v-tubers, Calliope Mori, is the music artist behind Go-Getters, the ending song Amanda is dancing to.
The Amanda Waller dance is so good! One of my favorite parts of the show so far. Suicide Squad stories are at their best when they don’t take themselves too seriously.
Thank you for the run down!
Sounds like it is certainly a thing and the points you were dropping (self aware Isekai commentary while it is STILL following Isekai tropes, Harley Quinn being front and center, etc) lets me know its probably not my cup o' tea.
I imagine Clayface could be faking having a bomb for one reason or another, like being a traitor, or just wanting his opportunity to be a main character like he so *obviously* deserves. Though real talk: couldn't there be a way they could implant something to pose a threat to him? Say, if destabilizing the bomb were to release something that would prevent him from using his powers and THEN blow him up, or a compound that could kill him since that'd still count as a bomb? I'm not as well-versed in his history as I maybe should be, but I know there have been instances where he's been frozen or otherwise rendered immobile in comics and cartoons using various chemicals and such, so I could see it going that way, too.
Him doing it just out of a narcissistic need for a moment in the spotlight is much funnier, though.
EDIT: Love the top, btw!
Maybe I've been enjoying it more because I watched subbed, so Deadshot's very enthusiastic "Oi, Ratto" landed well.
Your outfit is amazing!!!
Oh man I didn’t know this came out as I’ve been waiting for it. I have so much on my watchlist and I’m just finishing up Crisis on Infinite Earths part 2.
Yeah they just dropped the first 3 episodes.
Rick Flag using prison lingo was the third funniest thing I've seen all year
This sounds similar to Saiyuki, a violent retelling of a classic story. In this case: the classic story is the Task Force X comic line, but instead of toppling rogue governments, they're tackling another rogue world.
I'm sorry I know I should watch the whole video before commenting but is that Amanda Waller doing the JoJo torture dance?
Like Batman: Ninja before it, my first thought is, Why?
My second thought is, this is a series? I thought it was movie? Poor marketing DC/WB.
I think the reason behind the connection between the princess and Harley is because they look alike. Like, if you remove the makeup from Harley’s face or put the same makeup on the princess, they’re basically identical. So either they’re multiverse doppelgängers of each other, or it’s gonna feed into some kinda self love or self help metaphor, or a bit of both, I dunno
Something with regards to fanbases is that on the DC side there is talk of Harley Quinn oversaturation. It is very interesting to me that she and the squad got integrated into an anime genre that is also experiencing fatigue. I'm all for taking the leap and seeing what comes out. I'm not super into this series but with more episodes that can change.
I think My Adventures with Superman demonstrates that DC can go anime without having to lock themselves into fad genres. As much as this will seem like a charged statement, until more episodes prove otherwise, this feels like a show that will be largely forgotten after August 1st. I hope I'm wrong.
Honestly, if DC and WIT want to make an Isekai anime, then they could have done Amethyst Gem World or Book of Magic.
But they aren't mainstream compared to Suicide Squad.
I really wish they gave Harley her own movie/show. Not a suicide squad movie, not a birds of prey movie, not a batman movie, and definitely not a joker movie. She has so much potential as a character and if writers could just get past the shallow “she’s the hot crazy blond girl” facade and gave her the Joaquin Phoenix treatment they could really make a masterpiece.
I mean she pretty much already has one I mean she's kind of everywhere not only a main character In both suicide squads, but she had her own movie in birds of prey (which yes birds of prey was in the title but it was pretty much her movie as the main character) the birds of prey were secondary, she also has her own show where she's heavily featured, and she's going to be in the new joquine Phoenix joker 2 as the second main character I honestly think they need to slow down on her character a bit at least showcase other characters more with her in the background
Sasha! Your fit is fierce! Love your breakdowns!!!
I'm obsessed with your shirt. 😂 Sorry, that sounds weird. But it's really nice!
Congrat at 200 subs .
Also, I now want a Rebirth Young Justice that talks about how it's an Isaki.
I don't wanna watch the actual series, but I do enjoy listening to you talk about the series! Please keep reviewing the episodes.
This breakdown was perfect 👍🏿
Huh, as someone who watched the episodes one by one I didn't think the flashback and clayface scene lasted on so long. Kinda perfect amount for me hehe
I don't really read comics (still love your videos), but I watch all the animated DC movies, and dabble in anime. Gotta say, IMO these 3 episodes were the best hour of content to come out of HBO Max for a couple of years. I was laughing consistently, and that outro had me dying.
Clayface so far has been an amazing addition - though I'm not sure it comes through to folks watching the English Dub. He's voiced as the classic haughty narcissist, and so his "exposition of isekai"/ "main character persona"/ "hand waving convenient plot points" is actually the writer poking fun at all the stupid isekai tropes. You see this kind of snide attitude towards the tropes throughout the show, such as with the Rick Flag language barrier interaction. Does it still follow those tropes while trying to use comedy to distract the viewer? I think it's too early to tell.
With this interpretation of clayface having such a love for the dramatic i can easily see him just going along with the bomb thing for kicks
Maybe I'm just saying this because of all the Batman Brave And The Bold, but it might've been funny if all the fantasy characters and monsters were made up of old charcaters and concepts from Silver Age comics, like when Batman goes back in time, or from when Superman goes to some kooky planet. Maybe use some charcaters from DC's old Swords and Sorcery genure comics
I can't say much about either the Suicide Squad or the isekai anime genre, but i do know learning about "portal fiction" in my college course on fantasy lit back in the day. From Oz to Wonderland to Narnia and beyond. So yeah, western audiences aren't entirely ignorant of the concept behind isekai.
I’m totally in for the light “where is this gonna go?” entertainment. I like the humor so far. Flagg being taught the language by orcs was fantastic. I have a feeling Katana is working for the other side because they will turn out to be good. No… Katana is working for the prince and both current leaders are bad.
A Teen Titans isekai would be appreciated 👍🏿
Those little inconsistencies i have always ALWAYS thought of any projects separate from movies, shows, comics and video games. Y’all this DC we can’t be surprised at how much inconsistencies
This show has Bad Dub Syndrome so so hard. Deadshot does recognize Harley by reputation. Peacemaker is way funnier. The Ratcatcher scene works a million times better.
Dub dropped the ball HARD.
I found it odd that Clayface and Harley don't know about each other. You think operating in the same city and having to deal with Batman they would have heard of each other.
I could see it before he turned into his monster form, I thought she would have recognized that, at least, lol. I like the idea that he's not as famous as he thinks he is in his actor form.
If you're a character and your opposite Wallerr, and then she starts dancing? That's actually despair-inducing.
Since it means she's letting you see something people think is out of character for someone like her.
Which means she has no intention of letting you live. And she knows you thinknyou have a chance of getting away from her alive. Which you don't. And it's setting in that you don't.
Sonthe only thing left is deslair.
I feel like people would be less burned out or more interested in the show if it wasn't for a... certain game, that released a couple months ago
love your outfit, i hope dc makes more anime
Ugh I can't wait to get home and watch this!
The deadshot rat catcher bit had me dying 😂
2:00 you bring up a great question. If you read Batman White Knight, and if they follow those rules for this Clayface too, its totally possible he has a bomb in place and can be ended.
I've only watched the episodes in Japanese (time of writing). I like the vocal performances so far, but the language barrier scenes don't really play well when they're all speaking the same language and have subtitles. I'm curious how different the English dub will feel.
I haven't watched the show yet but I'm seriously curious.
Ps you look nice in that outfit
I haven't read or watched many of these. But the fact that the transit between worlds is intentional, repeatable, and reversible ran counter to my expectations. The government sending pawns on a dangerous mission to explore and eventually exploit the magical other world felt less isekai and more evoked roadside picnic/annihilation/remnant for me.
I couldn’t find the English dub for suicide squad isakai.
Same and I wanna seee it dubbed lol
@@koudelkaslayer agreed 👍
While I do think Harley has been overused recently, I am enjoying seeing a more classic joker-obsessed depiction of her again.
not only could Clayface not have a bomb in his neck, but King Shark couldn't have one, either.
Eh, You can make the shark one work.
Did the guy behind the Nerima Daikon Brothers anime work on this? because that scene from the start of your video feels like his style.
Every time you make a new SS:I video, I'm going to ask about Batman Ninja.
Lol fair
I just wish the guys danced more in the ending song mhm
I thought of this similar to Justice League meets RWBY. Characters I know from DC in a different situation. Would love for them to just drop the entire series at once so we can binge them.
I haven't seen any of the other Suicide Squad stuff, I didn't know Rick was a established character lol I thought he was made for the show.
Also, im a big Clayface fan now. I've always like Basil more than the other Clayfaces, but idk he's very endearing this go aound.
The suicide squad is generally not my thing, I fall in with the group of people that thinks Harley is over exposed, so I didn't think this would be my thing. But your video on the first episode made me curious so I binged all three episodes and I had a surprisingly good time. Clayface being a genre savy weirdo with protagonist syndrome has honestly made this my favorite verion of his character.
I absolutely love the genre-savvy actor Clayface, it's just delightful to see him getting derailed every time.
I'm trying to figure out if you are wearing a detached shirt collar or if you're wearing a shirt that happens to match your skin tone. The shadows suggest detached collar. Either way it's messing with my head.
Wait where are you getting dubbed clips, I’ve only seen subs everywhere
I'm enjoying the show. It feels like the creators had fun making it and that's infectious. The Waller dance was great. Would love to see other characters dancing too though, clayface has to have some moves
Anyone knows what region/country has a English dub of the show for vpn users ?
Hot take . This show should take place in gem world
Why are people acting like they are use the word isikai it's a whole new thing in America it's the same as Alice in wonderland, page master etc.
I love this anime so far. I have always liked SS and isekai anime, and while it’s very simple and but the ones working on it have worked on some of the best ones.
It looks awesome 😊
I laughed when you mentioned wearing the "Zatanna outfit" at the end, because that is exactly what I thought. "What does Zatanna have to do with this?" Then I thought that maybe you recorded a discussion of the latest Zatanna series that just came out this past week on another video and forgot to change outfits?
I like this outfit. Made me say "wow"
I am pretty sure that Amanda Waller just told Clayface that playing the role of someone with a bomb in his head would be a good one, so he is acting. I am pretty it 100% tracks with some versions.
Off topic but what about a video with Batman and the 'Spook' those were good Bronze age tales.
Look! It's the Dungeons & Dragons ride!
(We knew how to reach other dimensions in cartoons in the olden days. I was there.)
I somehow tuned out on this even though I got through Justice League x Rwby months ago, and I suppose didn't quite get what it was about until searching 'isekai' a few minutes ago. I thought it was jut a crossover. I really should have done that (searched the meaning of the title) when watching the Squad. This may be worth another spin, the art was gorgeous.
However, with all respect to everyone's cultural underpinnings and media preferences, (I've watched anime since Vampire Hunter D) exotifying the multiverse concept to international audiences may be a bit alienating without necessity. I'm curious to explore isekai more so I can appreciate the nuanced elements that make it unique. I just kind of walked into it backward the way this was arranged. Knowledge is power.
I have never been a fan of the isekai genre, nor the Suicide Squad, nor even Harley Quinn really, but the absurd combination with the gorgeous WIT animation is what gets my attention in the end. I can already see the trope formations, the attempt to lean towards original characters instead of providing more substance for the real protagonists, but I'm invested enough to see it through anyway. If nothing else, the ending sequence is hilarious and I could watch it all day.
"Joker's only love" girl the whole point is he don't give a shit about her, what are you yapping-
It depends on the adaptation. If you watched the first episode, you'd know that in this version, he actually does care about her to some extent.
@@musicwalls And there could always be a difference between how the world (or Harley) perceives their relationship versus the reality of the relationship
Different continuity
What about Batman?
It all really depends. He's been portrayed as both as a user and abusive AND genuinely caring for her... in the same story. Not anymore these days, they're gong all in on the abuser angle, but one upon a time, it wasn't like that.... until it was retconned.
As with all things that suck, I blame Flashpoint.
I kinda like the design of the animefication of the characters, story seems abit mix so far but ill watch and see
That amanda Waller dance was the most out of pocket thing with her character I've seen since the Lex Luthor kiss. Also Joker is just Majima in make-up and I love him for it. I'm in for this insanity, let's goooooo
