I’m here because my Braun immersion blender just died after 30 years of loyal service… not surprised that the winner is a Braun!
I have had my original Braun model 4169 immersion blender for 30 years, and it is still going strong. Braun makes some excellent products.
Mine is a piece of junk.
Immersion blenders been around for 30 years?
@@ernestjackson5812 Bamix was the first and they have been around at least that long..
Bamix still makes them in Sweden as well..

Have you tested the Vitamix immersion blender?? I'd like to hear your views on that one. The deluxe set.
I'm so appreciative for this show, always lets me go forward with confidence when I'm buying somthing new.
how do you know they aren't just being paid to say one or the other is the best? they dont even test multiple brands. im just curious what else you know that makes you so confident
I have the Cuisinart smart stick and the Breville one (it's part of the all-in-one). They both work fine and are sturdy. The Breville one has the control at the top to set the speed for food processing, not really for blending.
I've been using a $20 Hamilton Beach stick for a few years. It has the standard blender attachment, a whisk attachment that can make small amounts of whipped cream in under two minutes, and a small food processor attachment (fully enclosed) for making pesto, bread crumbs, salsa, etc. All three attachments were included in the $20 model. It has two speed buttons, and you hold one of them down to operate it. I've never had trouble taking it apart, and it's never come apart during operation.
That’s the one that I just bought tonight. But it did not come with the food processor attachment
I bought my Hamilton Beach almost 20 years ago, and it's still going strong (and trust me I abuse the heck out of it !!! )
that sounds like a deal that is really hard to beat. almost suspiciously too cheap, but, hamilton beach is a trusted brand, and i've heard good things about them. i wish i was in the US to get one for that price.
@@teklife I only have one little nitpick about it. The whisk whisks. The immersion blender blends. But the mini food processor is a little disappointing on hard cheeses in the particular model I have.
You can certainly grate hard cheeses instead, but I find that tiny spheres often give a better aesthetic than fast-melting rasped cheese. The spheres are typically made in a blender or food processor. But for some reason (the sharpness of the blade and/or the speed) it's just really hard to get nice small spheres. They tend to come out at about 1/16", whereas 1/32" would be ideal.
I think the blade is the culprit. On a typical food processor, you have to be really careful handling and cleaning the blade, because it's usually scary sharp. Even if you bring your pay-attention level up to a 6 or 7, you might still cut yourself. On mine, I've never been cut, and frankly I'm at a 4 or 5 in the carefulness.
For the home kitchen that all you need. I just bought one last week it just came with the whisk. I didn't need anything fancy for the house.
I've come to trust you more than Consumer's reports! I just order your top rated one based on your testing. Thank you and keep the humor and fun!
I bought the Braun MQ5025. I have owned a Braun Vario immersion blender for years & absolutely love it. We’re downsizing next year, & it will just be my husband & me, so I’ve sold my big Vitamix 7500 that served me well for years, & am choosing to buy smaller appliances.
How about Smeg immersion blender? Since it comes with all the other things to make it multipurpose (food processor attachment, whisk attachment, etc)
If you are going to go to the trouble of testing so many of these lenders you might give us two or three options price versus versus functionality etc. Also which ones to avoid. Thank you
how about tell us which ones were eliminated right away so we don't buy those?
Just buy the one he suggested. Or go with the Hamilton I just bought one last week it was about 30 dollars with tax at Wal-Mart.
They can't, they get paid to say one is better over the others..Braun probably paid them on this review..

So they buy everything with their own money, as well.
Trying to pass off your ignorance as fact, just because it sounds good to you (so must be true, right?), Just shows how ignorant you truly are.....
I bought a Braun with all the bells and whistles a couple of years ago. It detaches in the middle and plugs into a chopper, food processor, whisk, slices and grated cheese and vegetables. I love it. Glad you do too.
May I ask which Braun?
That Vitamix is a game changer,
I have had its for a year its great.
Yeesss!! I’m in the market for a new immersion blender before the holidays! Perfect timing !!
How about reviewing cordless immersion blenders? What's the best among the cordless?
I am surprised they did not mention the Vitamix immersion blender.
Me too. With the gard on the blender, sure seems like a good choice.
would love to hear about which one won't scratch your pots and pans, and if it can handle hot soups...some blenders have plastic bottoms that can't handle the heat
Can I change your life on that? I hate scratching pans. I bought a 50-pack of 1/8" ID High Temp Silicone Rubber End Caps on Amazon for like 7 bucks. They fit PERFECTLY over the nubs of my Bamix blender without getting in the way of the blades.
If they start to stain or accumulate odors, I just soak overnight in a bleach solution and rinse. Plus there are 50 of them, so it’ll be decades before I run out, should they ever tear (doubt).
They tested these on potato soup.
@@dirtyketchup Would you post the link please?
Exactly. I have an old cuisinart immersion blender that works fine except it tends to suction onto the bottom of my pots. Worried about it scratching my Le Creuset Dutch oven. I will probably go with the Vitamix or much cheaper Kitchenaid, both of which have plastic/silicone guards.
@@dirtyketchup could you add the link for the end caps on Amazon please?
My favorite use of the stick blender is for making homemade soap. The stir time with a spoon can go up to an hour. With a stick blender it's 5 to 10 minutes 😍
do you have the stainless steel one cause Injust purchased a Phillips 600W one but the immersion part is made of plastic
@ja da I have never noticed, but I use an older bowl.
I have followed many equipment recommendations from America’s Test Kitchen, from fruit to nuts. They have yet to taut an inferior product. I will follow their suggestions until proven wrong. Thanks ladies and the testers!
I think Thanksgiving is the perfect time to show gratitude that you can afford every product they tout. Hopefully that will be me someday. 😁
I have the Braun MQ505 that they recommend. It really is nice. My old immersion blender was also a Braun and I loved it. It lasted at least 18 years before the stick blender started to slip and make a nasty racket. The old one came with a little cup chopper that I still occasionally use to make chive oil. That said, this new one is WAY nicer to use, especially when blending smaller amounts of sauce or soup. The old one would splatter unless you had enough sauce to fully submerge the bell. The new one blends smaller amounts without the mess. They definitely improved from the older model.
HanGonnaSec Huey just speaking fro experience.....Not sure where you are coming from but it is what it is.
@@coralinealgae Is Braun able to crush ice cubes or frozen strawberries? Never used an immersion blender of any sorts, but my Breville 68oz blender jar is too much to clean in a small kitchen sink
@@igorborovkov7011 I wouldn't use an immersion blender to crush ice or anything hard frozen. If that's something you do regularly, a Ninja style blender would be better. Immersion blenders are designed to blend cooked chunky food, or emulsify homemade mayo or salad dressings. You can make a chunky tomato sauce partially or fully creamy. Same with soups or beans. Some models have small chopper attachments, but those are better used to chop stuff like fresh onions, or to make a little pesto.
I took the recommendation and glad I did.... works great and use it often.
I prefer the Bamix Pro-1 M150 gets the job done faster than the others and gives a better consistency . The build quality over the others is much better hands down. People will disagree but to each their own.
I use the Cuisinart 200 watt with many attachments and the washable blade part is removable.
I bought a Braun Series 9 stick blender last year and it is one of the best kitchen gadgets I have ever used. It's better than the winner here.
How do you it's better? Have you used both?
Which one handles frozen foods and ice the best? Which ones let you run the longer than 15 secs before you have to rest it? Which ones have other attachments that are useful? I know it's not viable to ask which ones konk out after 10 uses since none of them were used long term. (A common complaint with some of the lower end ones was that they died young.) Also some complaints were that some blenders didn't have enough power to make mayo.
Having spent so much money buying all these blenders to test, it would have been cool to get a review that covered more bases instead of just "this one is light, fits well, and you don't need all those other speeds". I would have liked for you to have picked out the top 3 and then talked about the pros and cons, what they did well, what they didn't do well compared to each other, etc.
Burned out motors is not an uncommon problem. As the final test, it would have been nice to run these continuously under load till they die to see how well there are built.
@@jackb1803 yea, maybe that's what the potato test was though? sorta? but i agree, would be good to see what they can take until they break.
This
I agree. One thing that surprises me is I am hearing reviews that say all of the immersion blenders are only meant to be used for very short periods of time. What?! Why?
Wonderful! Thank you.😊 Love America's Test Kitchen!
So much work put into testing, and you tell us about like two different factors that I myself don't care about. Some blenders come with attachments for whipping and food processing, their own jugs, guards, some are dishwasher safe. It would be great if you guys commented on more factors.
I have a white Braun from the early 90’s it still works flawlessly
she was listening attentively and seemingly objectively, but when she spoke fluently about the winner product at the end, the flawlessness of the delivery sounded just like a scripted commercial !! with
I wish they would've gone into more detail regarding all the immersion blenders they tested. I also wish they would've given the specs of each immersion blender.
Can you please test the newer ones? Including vitamix and some wireless ones like allclad?
Nothing like seeing a video from 2019, saying "Only $59.99" and that means $100+ now.

With all the cordless ones on the market, you guys REALLY need to revisit this one.
The Breville is actually really nice and comes with really handy accessories (e.g., food processor, whisk). The speed adjustment knob on the top is not a real issue and the trigger location is actually a great spot.
Thanks for the review.
I got the 3 speed KitchenAid. It's pretty awesome. For years I've used it for making milkshakes, which is very hard on am immersion blender. And it handle it like a champ. The 5 speed was too expensive
Same, it does a protein shake no problem and cleans up super easy with the detachable blades. Plus, got mine with the little food processor attachment, great for mincing up a little garlic or onion for a small job without making a mess. I would say it feels a little underpowered, but then it's held up for years at this point, so I guess it's doing very well.
Thanks. Great, honest service.
You guys should rate the top 3 or 4, and even the worst of the worst. Not enough info. here.
@Lyle Gorch - That information is available behind the subscription paywall.
Yep and worth the money honestly.
Would be nice if you showed how easy or difficult it is to detach the wand from the motor end. On the Breville for example it's quite difficult.
Is there any brand with a blender head attachment that is smaller than 2 inches or 5cm? I'm trying o fit one of these into a standard wide mouthed nalgene bottle?
Does the Braun come with a chopper bowl attachment?
Love you guys and love my Braun immersion !,
You could never talk me out of my Bamix blender. I was surprised that Bamix wasn't in the line up. Enjoy you guys often.
I think they ding the bamix for not being able to detach the wand... but I dont think most people would mind for a superior product!
panzerkiller13 isn't that funny because three wand stays put. One simply attaches/detaches the blades. How difficult can that be?
@@chutybutyful Right? I'm looking into getting my first immersion blender now and I constantly keep seeing bellyaching about not being able to remove the shaft for cleaning on the Bamix... ITS A SOLID SHAFT. WIPE THE THING OFF AND CARRY ON! I have noticed that ATK and others tend to overemphasize things as bad OR good on certain tools or equipment that really aren't worth mentioning. This isn't the only industry that does it though, I regularly run into the same useless hubbub on technology and every type of tool you'd put in your workshop!
panzerkiller13 Check out Gordon Ramsey using the bamix. He gives the perfect camera angles on how this beauty works. It’s not popular in america but who cares? It’s the best habds down. I do a lot of research and i’m picky. I’m in my 60’s and most everything i buy now i purchase with it being the last one i’ll ever need to buy before moving on into the next life. So Bamix definately fit the bill. The only gripe I have with it is that it isnt cordless and some, not all of the attachments are a la carte. Still worth it. You wont be disappointed. Let me know what you do wind up with. Just curious now. 😊
@@chutybutyful Lol I feel like we'd be great friends if we lived down the street from each other, I can't buy something without researching and comparing options no matter what it is! Are there any attachments that you feel are very much worth or, or any that aren't worth it at all? I'm kinda leaning toward getting the Gastro 2 for the extra 50W of power, and it looks like for an extra $100 I can get the food processor, the meat blade and a powder blade, that slicer, and some containers. Would you recommend that, or should I just stay basic and get the unit with the 3 normal blades?
Apparently, after a cursory search, it looks like there is a multiquick 7 and a 9. Is the 5 still the best rated?
Measuring RPM in open air (aka no load) can definitely be misleading; it can have little relation to motor speed in actual use.
love all your videos
Wonderful, Thank you!!
I love my GE immersion blender! Hi/low speed. Great quality
What a great discussion about immersion blenders.
Appreciate this video! My cuisinart just died, and I wasn't interested in rebuying that brand, so I was in search of a better alternative. Product ordered with your affiliate link! Thank you so much for making my replacement purchase a snap!
There needs to be a ranking choice. Just not the winner. But the runner up list.
The Breville All-in-one gets unfairly dunked in this review on IMO, as it is very well built and comes with a fantastic kit if you want to save space. It comes with a 6 Cup Food Processor attachment (with chopper, slicer, and grater blades) that can take the place of your food processor for the same countertop footprint. That's why its variable speed dial is important. But I'd also have to disagree with the review in that I find variable speed very useful and use it all the time. When puree'ing small amounts of food, or thick pastes, for example, using too high a speed will just expel the food out of the blade well. Using a lower speed helps break down the food without displacing it.
It's also useful for doing the initial break down of large chunks when you're trying to cream soups or make cashew cream, as lower speeds not only create less risk of splashing when it's still in a watery + chunky state, but they also don't create such a strong vacuum force that pulls the blender towards the bottom, allowing you to "stir" the blender around and to homogenously break down all the chunks and then you can move up to higher speeds when "stirring" with the blender is no longer necessary and you're just going to keep the blender in one place so the vacuum effect isn't as much of an issue.
Do I have to keep my fingers on the "on" button to use the thing? I am unable to do that because of arthritis. I have a new model "other brand" immersion blender that has to have the on button pushed in while using it. I tried it once and threw it in the drawer. Way to difficult.
Which ones with best attachments ?
Getting a good grip on it is definitely on the top of my needs too....

However, not all of us live in New England where we have a summer "cottage" and loads of cash to spend. I miss the part where you show a runner up that's a little cheaper. That's what I always buy. $60 isn't couch change at my house, sadly.
@Lydia Smith Jones - KitchenAid 3-Speed Hand Blender, $30.
It's probably not available anymore, but if you have an Aldi's or lidl(both German discount grocery stores) I purchased a stick blender from them that was 15 USD few years ago that came with three attachments to the motor. The processor even handled pork skins! Though I tossed the processor because it trapped water inside, the other two attachments aren't flawed and work great. I think you can find something that's definitely good enough for cheap. :) Just buy from stores that let you return easily should it not work out. Speaking of return policies and deals, Kohl's return policy is unprecedented and if you wait for a really good sale ($10 off $50 plus $10 Kohl's cash for every $50 + 30% off) housewares suddenly become affordable 😂

with all of those models it's a shame they didn't do a runner up or best value or best budget one too
But for many, there may be a first evaluation of heavy duty vs small quick light available for the home kitchen (that's what Test Kitchen has chosen here).
So you need to know what you want that tool to do.
I'm replacing some blenders because the manufacturer has compromised heavy duty, strength, longevity for the lighter, quieter plastic-nylon gears.
That first heavy blender may be heavy because it has stronger, heavy duty metal gears and superior internal copper wire windings in the motor.
I have been using one that I paid a while $15.00. It's over 30 years old. I'm ready to retire it and more up to one that has added attachments. Now which one should I get?
