  • If your birthday party is at risk of becoming boring, start a discussion on audiophile cables. That will surely stir-up things. Let me tell you my take on it.

    For a man who’s first language is evidently not English, you express yourself articulately and eloquently and dare I say, more clearly than some, to whom English is their native tongue. Your explanations help us lesser informed navigate our way around this industry, with no overtones of patronisation. Your approach is, refreshingly direct and most welcome. Keep up the good work.

    Hans, you are so great. You really are a treasure of information for if any of us want to get into better electronics audio equipment and even if we never quite get into full audiophile equipment status you give us good advice on what matters and what is important. Keep up your good work!

    Best video on youtube for cable. Finally a very well made explanation with good suggestions. To me cables do matter. I replaced my own Audioquest entry level cable with a Ortofon spk red and I heard the difference immediately on the mid and lower range. Sound stage opened too. I was skeptical at the beginning, but now I do believe cables can make a difference.

    Hi. You mentioned toward the end of your video about cable burn-in. Are there any convincing reasons why cables need to burn-in?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před rokem

      I have heard several reasons why cable burn in should work. But all of them were beyond my knowledge to judge. But I have heard the effect of burn-in and the effect of reversing the cable and on a well installed quality system they are convincing.

    Does it matter if the wire in transformers is just standard quality copper?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 5 lety +1

      All materials always seem to matter. For transformers the quality of the material used for the windings is only one factor that determines quality. But, indeed, that does have influence.

      A dealer I know wound silver wire trans for his customer. Customer liked it. So there is a difference when using better or different material.

  • @philspencelayh5464
    @philspencelayh5464 Před 5 lety

    You are correct about the power but the point I was trying to make is that the current (especially transient peaks) can be much higher at the output and speaker cable has a much bigger influence. Think about damping factor. The output impedance of my Quad 405 is .035 ohms , speakers nominally 6 ohms. If the speaker cable is changed from 1 ohm to 2 ohms that makes a big difference. If you take into account the capacitance that you get on the typically much longer speaker cables and so on. I rest my case.

    Is silver plated copper (spc) a poor choice. I hear people say they are susceptible to oxidation and will lose their sound quality really fast and start to sound harsh.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 5 lety +4

      It all depends on the quality, not on a simple buzz word. Good cables are expensive since they are hard to make (but not all expensive cables are good).

    Funnily enough I thought a similar tyre analogy the other day only I was thinking about my mountain bike, yeah just pottering along a manicured cycle lane I might not notice a huge difference but if I'm pushing the limits of my skills on a proper red or black graded mountain bike trail I'm not going to have much faith in the wrong tyres to grip and save my butt.

    Hello, Hans... Would different optical cables also affect the signal to the same degree, or given that it is "just light" not make as much difference? Thanks!

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Před 5 lety +3

      The main problem with TOSlink optical cables is the optical connector that is in the audio device. Therefore may manufacturers don't support higher sampling rates than 96 kHz.

    There is a difference. The hardest bit is working out if the difference is an improvement. I came to the conclusion that "silver" plays a positive role for better sound.

    Cables need to burn in !? This is new to me, why ?

  • @tw9668
    @tw9668 Před 4 lety +2

    Hans, I think we need to separate the discussion between signal cables (which carries very little current/power, which is more susceptible to interference) and speaker cables (carries massive amount of power and the main job is to carry current, not voltage). Furthermore, signal cables are often shielded, and speakers wires are unshielded.
    Thanks.

      Absolutely! I changed my speaker cable from Analysis Plus Oval 12vs to the 9s and there was an obvious improvement in sound. It actually sounds like an entirely different system. Wider deeper clearer and by far more natural sounding than before. This guy’s talking nonsense.

  • @philspencelayh5464
    @philspencelayh5464 Před 5 lety +4

    Interesting views. I wish I didn't hear differences, I would have saved a fortune. I totally disagree with the order of cables to upgrade/change . I always notice a difference with any change in speaker cables, I think its the cheapest upgrade you can do to a system (speaker cables carry more current than power cables. power is V x I and as mains voltage is much higher than amp output voltage the current is much smaller) Interconnects come next and power cables last. I have not tried the mega expensive iec cables that are available but can not say I have ever heard any difference with cable changes.

  • @geir8849
    @geir8849 Před 4 lety +1

    The only way to make your system sound the best is to test a lot of cables to find out what sounds the best. This will be very different dependent on components, acoustics, and taste.
    I really wish cables did not matter, because I would spend less money on my system. Unfortunatly really good cables is quite exspensive. For example I have 5000$ speakers and 2500$ speaker cables. When you hear the incredible sound you can achive with the right cables, the investments will give a much better quality to the sound, and more enjoyment listening to music. Its not about buying expensive cables, but the right cables. I use Argento, Tarfala, Organic, Isotek, In-Akustik.

      The Hans Beekhuyzen Channel I've since upgraded my speaker cables and could not beleive my ears how big of a difference that made. I find it hard to understand how there is even a debate around this. Changed RCAs, opticals and network cables after that, also improved sound but less markedly. It all adds up. Havent gotten into power yet.

      @@kidsfriends8269 Same, I can hear a difference with a different power cable, logically I cant explain it and I wouldnt reccomend it because of that. But still I hear an improvement.

    You are too nice to not include "tone deaf" in the reasons people can't listen to differences. I understand you don't want to offend anyone but you know those people have no shame bullying others in forums and CZcams calling them names etc. It is a very rude thing to tell other people that they are basically imagining the differences they hear.

      I understand. In my personal experience it is possible that 2 different quality cables can sound more similar than different. After all the material and geometries available are kinda limited. I experienced silver cables that sounded smooth but for some reason they always fell short in deep bass reproduction, even the silver plated copper ones. I always considered this weird since silver is indeed the best conducting material.

    • @JohnDoe-np3zk
      @JohnDoe-np3zk Před 5 lety +1

      Silver probably helps more on the top end but as to why the bass is less is not clear.
