    A couple of months ago I got to looking at the circuit board of my DAC and saw 2 cheap blue film capacitors looking back at me. They were .05 cent 1uF metallized Chinese film caps, so I replaced them with $2.00 10x bigger in size 1uF polypropylene film caps and the difference was incredible and amazing to me. I had 80's music on and the synthesizer sounds came through with warmth and sweet goodness. I still can't believe the difference. Companies don't use them because they are expensive and big so..

    Hans, 👍
    I'm not sure of how many of your genuinely informative & well delivered vids I've view since your start-up years ago but, until late last year, it's had to be 90% of your total offerings. Note, I simply took a "break" last December roughly from digital audio & HPs & DAC/Amps to revitalize & expand my 20 yr vinyl love & collection.
    Both great adventures!!
    I've updated my ROON subscription and.....yes, back in the wonderful world of HPs, DACs, streaming DAPs, etc.
    I say all the above to frame the following complement; your instructional vids re: digital/analogue audio are a requirement for all enthusiasts regardless of experience. 👍
    Re-watching some of your older vids along with your newer 2020 catalog over the last few weeks, quickly generated the enthusiasm we had for all-things-digital-audio before the hiatus. Well done. 💪

      Interesting. I think I can sometimes hear jitter but am never sure. Smear, eroded transients, overall muddle - 'digital fog', is that it? I'd like to hear a few A-B comparisons that show no-jitter against jitter - that would be really instructive.

    Hello, what a great video. Thanks, I've subscribed to the channel.
    I found this video while I was doing some DAC listening today. I have a full RME setup: 2xADI 8 ds, 1xADI 8 pro and a DIgiface USB interface that I also use as mater clock (ADAT connections - 44.1 khz). I was making a shootout between the Digiface phones dac and the ADI 8 Pro dac.
    The Digiface is about 20 years newer than the ADI 8 pro so I thought it would sound better but is usb powered and the outputs are 2 unbalanced ts jacks, the Adi 8 pro is properly powered and has balanced trs outputs, so I have no idea about which could be better.
    By a listening test I feel the Digiface sounds sharper on the transients and the highs and more compressed in general, the Adi 8 pro seems more dynamic and with an extended low end.
    What do you think about it?

    Excellent video. Your English is flawless, including use of colloquial phrases. Impressive. One question on your video. You mention that the power supply is "perhaps the most part of a DAC". This makes perfect sense to me, and is reflected in the many well reviewed DACs, with larger power supplies and consequently larger housings, such as PS-Audio Directstream, Shiit Ygdrassil, Denafrips Terminator, Audio-dg R7 etc. However one thing peplexes me is that the range of DACs by Chord are all very small, and yet highly regarded. Even the Dave is relatively small. I cannot work out how Chord manage to compete successfully with these small power supplies. Could it be that clever engineering and FPGA coding can eliminate power distortions, or is it perhaps that reviewers add in a good quality external power supply. Is this something you have ever considered?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Před 4 lety +1

      I still have Chordette and that one sounds clearly better using an sBooster power supply. The Hugo and Hugo II I reviewed used batteries and then the power supply is only used to charge the battery. The Dave I have not reviewed (I have heard it though and like it very much). For as far as I know it can't be used with an external power supply. I presume that they use a very voor switch mode power supply. When done properly it has the advantage of being able to deliver instant current.

    When auditioning/testing a dac and or streamer, would you consider listening to a streamer that has analog outputs and digital outputs from both outputs. That is to say, listen to tidal on the streamer for example via its analog out then listen via your dac of choice in setup 1,2,3. I think there may be streamers with great features but their analog out not very nice. Example I love the Sonos connect but I do not like its analog output quality. What if the SC
    Was auditioned using its output into a Mytek dac for example.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Před 4 lety +2

      I can assure you that the digital output of the Sonos Connect is as bad as the analog outputs. It has a very poor clock so the jitter will kill the music.
