- It's time to look at exactly what Link thinks of Mipha in Zelda Breath of the Wild.
We very quickly learn that Mipha loves Link and keeps him close in her heart. But... what about Link? What does he truly think of his childhood friend? Thanks to the discovery of Link's diary in Breath of the Wild, we can now explore his relationship with Mipha more in-depth than ever before.
We also look at some of the other secrets hidden within the Japanese version of Breath of the Wild, that reveals some immensely fascinating things about Mipha, including her dying wish. There's so much to look at, I've been super excited to share this one with you all.
In this video, we look at Link's secret diary, the differences between the Japanese and English text for Link's responses, and the disparities between the Japanese and English version of the cutscenes and more. With all this, we can now discover as much as possible about Mipha.
I also want to point out that the translations I've produced for this video have all been completed by me. As in the nature of translation with any language, it's entirely possible that another person may choose to translate differently.
Apologies for my mistake in calling Sidon Mipha's descendent when he's her brother!
lets be honest here, if mipha hadnt died and was able to offer the zora armor to link, he would most definitely say yes
Link did grew up close to her so even if he didn't romantically love her, he probably thought of her as a very special childhood friend or maybe like family.
Something else to note, this memory is set apart from all the others and is particularly special, because in every memory he recovered except this one, he had to physically go to the same location the memory took place. For this one, all he needed was a statue built in her likeness. I think this suggests that his memory of her has a higher sentimental value hence why it took less effort to remember

Mipha just gets more and more tragic. It's so sad and bittersweet.
The English version made Mipha sound like a lovesick child, just doing things to get Links attention whereas the Japanese version made her a hero, doing things because she wants to and knows its the right thing to do. 😪 so frustrating that they changed it so much.
i found interesting that in english it’s “grace”. i bought my botw in spanish and the word used is “plegaria” which is a prayer special where you’re asking for something in return of being so devote. i feel like that definition fits mipha better
I’ve always liked Mipha and hated that seemingly everyone around me thinks shes a shallow love interest for Link. Knowing the translation is so helpful and makes so much more sense. The English version always felt like it was missing something or off.
I love Mipha so much. She’s my favorite champion. Out of Link’s love in this game I’d always wondered how he’d felt about Mipha & Zelda. These women obviously love him, and I believe that’s how Zelda accessed her power; but I want to know his perspective.
In English the closest word to that we have IS Grace. Grace can also mean a prayer and sometimes instead of “saying a prayer” we “say grace”. Grace is also something that is given in kindness or goodwill. So I think other good translations besides “Mipha’s Grace” would be “Mipha’s Kindness”, “Mipha’s Goodwill”, or “Mipha’s Prayer” (which I think was mentioned).
After Mipha said water blight killed her, it was personal.
I've been writing a lot with Mipha lately and I feel SO VALIDATED learning that she actually was more bold about actively wanting to protect him, and Link reciprocating feelings the way that he does, even if it's understated, it matches the personality vibes I was getting.
Link looks prettier than zelda honestly...
To this day, I do not understand why they took Link’s diary away from the English version, or why some of the translations are so skewed. I so love that Mipha says she and Ruta will offer protection rather than support. It’s a nuanced difference, but I feel it fits much better.
Mipha: I'm so glad I can protect you, Link!
The Age of calamity lore shows that this different-from-botw timeline was saved, and no-one (important) died. Mipha already prepared the Zora Armor before the calamity, so I'd guess in the Age of calamity timeline Mipha would propose to link shortly after the events. Which is a really cute idea by the way.
I want to see what Link thinks of Revali😆😂
Sidon isn't a descendant, he's her brother.
After seeing some videos like this talk about the Japanese translations of Zelda games I'm starting to think that they should be taken as the cannon of the series since it's the original language the games are made for and they are quite a bit more in depth when it comes to story and lore.
