What Exactly Is Ganondorf's Motivation in Tears of the Kingdom?
Explore the intricate lore of Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom, unravelling the complexities of his character and motivations that go beyond mere conquest.
This video analyses Tears of the Kingdom's original Japanese narrative to expose the profound depths of Ganondorf' character and some secrets of the Secret Stones that play a pivotal role in his transformation into the Demon King.
All translations of the Japanese text within this video have been completed by me. Please remember that language is extremely complex and no one single translation should be considered final. I endeavour to explain the nuances of important Japanese words when necessary in the video to facilitate a better understanding of the story that the writers had intended to tell.
It also goes without saying that culture plays an extremely important role here too, the depth of which goes way beyond of what I discuss in the video.
Some of the sources I've used for this video can be found below. They are in Japanese.

    What is that thing at 20:16 , and where can I find it? Also, is that TOTK or BOTW?

  • @sulaimanbehbehani8054

    Totk link is insanely powerful. He took down ganon amped by the secret stone while 7 sages couldn’t do it while they each had a secret stone. Link only had 2 royal spears fused together (that’s canon).

    I can understand why many see Majora as a demon. And even though the manga called Majora a dragonic creature isn’t canon I understand that too. But I always saw Majora as an evil god created from the wickedness accumulated from the use of it’s powers. And if the Mask is only a tool to massive the inner darkness if the user into power it could be that darkness joined with the mask and is sentient because of the emotions within it. But the reason I see Majora as a god and not demon is because of his scale of power. It created the realm of Termina just from the skull kids memories and wished. Only gods in Zelda have been seen to have the power to “create” worlds. The Golden Goddeses and the Wind Fish. Even Ganondorf could only twist and corrupt Hyrule he couldn’t erase it and make a new one.

    Yes I think there was deeper thing with moon children majora and fierce diety. So there are holes in Zelda where we could get lots more lore. Let's talk about how demons are a thing but you don't see much of em depending on game. This is not just Japanese influence as every culture has their demons. However Majora's mask pulls from diff cultures I want to say maybe mostly Japanese so yea the oni tag thing is a big deal and yes what do demons do after demise is gone? We see majora as a villain but fierce diety is in no way just pure good. Then you got the moon children possible inter loper thing. Maybe I've played too much FF too many other vid games, too much mythology and while I should not inject all that into Zelda what if, what if Zelda was going for some of it this time. What if it's possible certain beings in Zelda are so much an archetype they really can't understand certain stuff. I mean this in regards to moon children. The thing I'm getting at is like you all say so much is gone in diff translations well I'm not so sure it is. Cuz when I first played I was like there is more to tag thing, you do got full psychology thing and fact was Majora's mask not first game since a certain lore order to have a demon main boss that was independent of Gannon. Plus lots of symbolism in masks. Anyway short version is I think fierce diety was only good because of link

    From what I've heard in other videos, Zelda saying Ganon gave up on reincarnation was a translation error and is basically the opposite of what she actually says.

  • @midgetydeath
    @midgetydeath Před 13 dny

    I think it would be really cool if Skyward Sword is set at the very end of the timeline and that Demise is actually the final embodiment of power achieved by Ganondorf. And in Tears of the Kingdom, Ganondorf stole the Secret Stone of _Time_ and corrupted it. Yet, despite becoming the "Secret Stone of Darkness" because of him, it didn't actually change its color, glow, and appearance other than getting bigger. Darkness is not an element in The Legend of Zelda's setting. It's unnatural and a violation of the natural order. So, a Secret Stone logically cannot change to that attribute. So, perhaps that is why it's appearance did not change: maybe it is _still_ the Secret Stone of Time and it grew because he added Darkness into it. He also takes on a Demise-like appearance (including the scales) when using it. This would fit well as the first step to the thing about Demise having conquered time.

    I wonder, is Zelda part of this cycle, this curse? Or does "blood of the goddess _and_ spirit of the hero" only apply to Link? Or rather, specifically, the descendants of him and Zelda who have the "spirit of the hero" as they'd obviously have the blood of the goddess by default.

  • @midgetydeath
    @midgetydeath Před 19 dny

    Some fans (fanboys, really) and Nintendo claim that Link is not reincarnated. I think expecting us to believe all this over and over is just coincidence is asking waaaay too much. It's like if Rowling came out and said Harry is blonde. Nope, pretty sure he's not. Nintendo, basically: "They're not reincarnations, they're just the same person...in spirit!" Sooo...reincarnation.

    • @MajorasWrath1
      @MajorasWrath1 Před 18 dny

      Every Link is a separate person with his own personality and individual characteristics that is influenced by the soul of the hero that moves from vessel to vessel. Japanese mythology is not the same as western/christian mythology including he concept of a soul/spirits. My best interpretation is that the soul of the hero is perhaps the soul of the first hero and every vessel it inhabits rubs off on it, changing just a little. Thus with every new Link, he gains some experience/knowledge/whatever from the soul of the hero which contains such from the previous heroes, but the new/current Link still remains his own person and not just a medley of the previous.

    Ganondorf before obtaining the secret stone was pretty much a mortal man, powerful and magical but still mortal. After obtaining the secret stone he's true power was released. He pretty much became the original demon king Demise, hence his ridiculous power.

    Absolutely amazing work, deserves an absurd amount of more views, a true explanation and definitive Zelda theory that is on par with or surpasses those theories of the largest Zelda youtubers. It's as if Ganondorf is this "new author" of pure destruction, endless chaos and true darkness - more than Demise it seems. Perhaps Ganondorf is this new Demise, or at least this continuity is separate from previous Zelda lore. It's so satisfying to finally understand how TOTK enhances the Zelda lore and universe of the series. Truly outstanding and remarkable work!

    I continue to be more and more convinced that the past sections of TotK are set before OoT. The Ganondorf there is the original Ganondorf, but once he is sealed his hatred allows him to be reincarnated again in OoT. As he continues to be reincarnated over and over again he becomes less and less human and more bestial until he becomes the form of Calamity Ganon. He can take physical form, but lacks his mind and intelligence. That form eventually becomes Dark Beast Ganon and it is destroyed meaning Calamity Ganon is now no more. With the original Ganondorf's death in TotK, the cycle is effectively broken. Demise's hatred and curse still ensures there will always be evil in the world, but Ganondorf is no longer bound to that curse.
