      Funky Pirate They aren’t exact, but some recordings of both the 208 and 207 exist, they both sported three shine whistles. The 208’s whistle was slightly different to the rest, most likely due to being reshaped by the GM at some point.

      TrainMan 555 The Gainesville Midland became very well known for continuing to run their big Decapods, some ex SAL into the 1950s. Some had stokers as well. Eventually though the engines were retired when the line was bought out by S Steam in the south died early (1950s, ACL, SCL, & SOU were some of the first to go entirely diesel, along with NYC, Erie, and northern lines), mostly by 1950-55, so Gainesville Midland by 1959 was a well known railfan spot.

    Great video... except the route. If you're going to have GM locos, they ought to at least be on a route that looks a LITTLE like the actual Midland. That piece of railroad goes up and down so much, you could have slack action with a light engine! I had started building a route in Trainz 12 (it was actually going to be the Gainesville & Northwestern, not the GM itself -- but would have included most of Gainesville including the terminal and yard), but my computer died about a year ago and I haven't been able to work on it since. Naturally I hadn't backed up the files.

    • @mattc286
      @mattc286 Před 4 lety

      @@RailsofMichigan GM had way more than four decapods -- ten, in fact: nos. 21 and 201-209. Of these, 201, 202, 204, 205, and 206 were Russian Decapods while the rest were "ordinary." GM also had a bunch of 4-8-0s and several 4-4-0s, Ten-Wheelers, and Consolidations, as well as at least one 2-6-0 IIRC. One of the Consols, the 116, is displayed not far from the GM tracks in Jefferson, GA. Sadly, the 209 in downtown Gainesville is now landlocked by a considerable distance. I believe the 2-8-0 in Freedom Park in Charlotte is also ex-GM, but I don't remember the number. 203 is preserved at SERM, 206 is preserved as SAL 544 (its identity before it went to the GM) at Spencer, and 208 is in Winder, GA.
