    I've owned both a RK and a Heritage, and if all you are doing is stright highway distance the RK has the edge, but not by much. Overall the Heritage is the better handling bike for most riders. I found the top heaviness of my RK to be an annoyance. It took more effort to make it handle compared to the Heritage. Both are great bikes, but for me the winner is the Heritage, and it is a myth that a Heritage is not a solid touring bike. If you are 6'2" and under advantage Heritage. If you are over 6'2' and/or a heavy, big guy then that is where the RK wins. But even as a big guy, with the correct shock settings the Heritage will be just fine, and because of its power to weight advantage actually does a better job at carrying a larger rider.

    The touring frame which includes the Road King was updated in 2014. It’s a huge increase in stiffness and performance over the 09 update.

    I did a stage 2, rineharts, legend shocks on the rear, heated grips and heated mustang seat tour pack. If ur a bigger guy get the rk.
    The heritage is for a smaller guy or someone who rides solo mostly. They are both excellent choices though...

    The old model heritage for me. The floor boards are lower and further forward on them than RK. RK had my knees up in the air and I felt cramped up which suprised me. I’m 6’3 and everyone says RK best for big guys. Nope not for me. Way more relaxed and comfy on the 2016 heritage I have. I guess the higher floorboards explains the better lean angle of the RK 😂. I think the new heritages have higher floorboards too since they also have a better lean angle than the old heritages. But I sat on a road king today after riding my heritage and it was immediately obvious I was way more comfy on my heritage
    I’m all about comfort. That’s important to me. The lower floorboards and being further out makes a big difference for me.

    I agree with most of your assessment. I just bought a new RK too. Personally, I think the Heritage is a much better handling bike. I don't know what they're talking about with the forks, but at low speeds, the Heritage can just be woven thru anything with ease. The RK definitely takes a lot of clutch and braking to overcome its top heaviness. At higher speeds, both do what they're asked with little drama.
    I do think you get more for your money (except for power to weight) with the RK. And it's the better bike for 2 up, which is how mine will often be used. I find I really like the off idle fueling of the King. Some of the Softies both 107 & 114s can get pretty jerky if you get the least bit sloppy with your throttle hand.

      Coming from an iron 883 to an fxbb ive noticed that sonetines in decelerating when i let off the throttle it jerks a lot. Good yo know i thought it was just my bike.

    • @saddle8bag
      @saddle8bag Před 4 lety +1

      @@MrFunnyman1130 It's scarier if you're just cruising down the road one handed and hit a bump. That causes you to roll on the throttle a tad. The bike jumps, pulls your bottom causing you to twist the throttle even more and so on.
      That'll get your attention quick!

    One other difference is you sit on a roadking where as you sit in a softail. Its the way the frames are.

      Yeah? the new Heritage is just as comfortable , lighter, and more nimble and faster. Slight edge to the Road King for long rides, and more space in the luggage area. It all boils down to preference. Unless you are a Nimrod.

      I am a Road king fan. That being said, the Heritage has a bag advantage over the Road king. The Heritage looks good without bags as well! Making it a little more versatile. Not a big game changer. A road king looks a mess without bags.

      @mikew.197 Před 5 lety +3

      I do agree that the RK bags are better, but I love the fact that I can take the screen and bags off my Heritage and just go cruise around town. Both of them are great!

    Don't they all have a trail for their front forks? The FLHRXS Road King Special has the longest with it being 6.9" followed by the FLHR Road King at 6.7" and the FLHC Heritage at 5.5"?

      He's talking about at the neck. The forks sit behind the neck at the top of the forks, on the touring frame. The forks sit in front of the neck on the other frames.

    You didn't mention that you can strip down the Heritage to make it more of a cruiser then a light tourer. It's like you get 2 bikes in one. You can't do that on a road king. It just wouldn't look right.

    lol.. they look "so Familiar"?? Really, there might not be anything (including huge differences in tires) similar in looks other than maybe the transmission.. You didn't mention the Rubber mounted engine vs Solid mount either.. The Fatter tires on the Heritage will hurt your HP and fuel mileage by a small amount too. I'm on the shorter and lighter side of most all riders and I still chose the Road King over the Heritage. Seems to me the Heritage is way over priced,
