  • A lot of subscribers have asked me lately why I picked the Heritage Classic over the Road King, which they thought I was going to buy. So I explain my thoughts on this on a beautiful Memorial Day ride in North Georgia. Hope you enjoy!

    One other point with these machines , this is my favorite , as they look like the 40's , and 1950 era of Harley-Davidson's , where style , and class was established , at that time period , those were the top of the line motorcycles , the Heritage is , and always has been the modern retro bike , the go to classic , a timeless machine , oozing with nostalgia , yet offering modern engineering , and refinements , in a classy , yet classic package . Ride safe to all .

    I'm a 5'5", 65 year old woman and absolutely love my 2020 Road King. In town. On the road. Takes me in style and comfort. I get tickled when folks call the 107 engine "small". The road king is a beast when compared to previous bikes I've owned. And that is why they make chocolate and vanilla
    😊 Enjoy your Heritage!

      Road King is a great motorcycle along with the Heritage. Took me a long time to make up my mind. The 107 Milwaukee 8 is plenty of motor for anyone for sure. I got the 114 Heritage because of the blacked out look but a 107 would have been just fine too. Enjoy your Road King! Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hello George, I love watching your videos keep up the good work. I currently ride a 2015 Honda shadow Aero used to be my back up bike until I hit a deer and totaled my 2015 Yamaha V-Star 950. I broke my wrists and several fingers on each hand. I was going 50 miles per hour when the deer came out of nowhere. It was the morning of October 20 2021 on my 50 mile ride to work. It’s 2 1/2 years to retirement .
    I’m looking forward to riding once the snow melts here in Buffalo New York probably gonna be around mid April. If your ever in the Western New York area look me up would love to ride with you. I noticed a young man in the beginning of the video reminded me of my granddaughter Chickoya she has CP. Keep up the good work I enjoy the videos.
    By the way the heritage classic is the bike I was actually going to buy with the insurance money from my accident and sale of my 2015 Honda. I almost bought a later model heritage classic. However the wife is not happy with my motorcycling to begin with and the accident hasn’t helped so in order to keep her happy I decided to use the money to pay off our summer park model trailer.
    But one of these days I will be riding a Heritage classic. I really enjoyed the review thank you

    I faced the same dilemma as you looking at the Road King versus Heritage. I Like the color matched hard bags and also as you mentioned the way they open. Motor size wasn’t an issue. I ended up with a 2018 Heritage Classic with the 107, that I picked up in January. I am not mad at the 107 at all. I have never and don’t think I will ever go man I just wish I had more power. The weight difference really wasn’t an issue, although very noticeable. At the end of the day, it all came down to the fact that I just felt more comfortable sitting on the Heritage. Glad I found your channel. Look forward to exploring more of your videos.

    • @GARamblinMan
      @GARamblinMan  Před 3 lety

      You and I share pretty much the same thoughts on the two motorcycles. I agree the 107 is plenty of power and the reason I chose the 114 was primarily the blacked out color scheme instead of chrome. Thanks for watching and ride safe.

    Both the Heritage and the RK have that Iconic Harley look. Beautiful Bikes. I really like the larger led readout (if that's what it's called... I'm old) on the speedo of the Heritage. A guy can't go wrong with either and you just have to take your own riding into consideration. Nice ride!

      Like I said in my video I could have easily walked into the dealer that day and bought a Road King if they would have had one in a nice color that I liked. I would probably been just as happy with the RK as I am with the Heritage. Both great motorcycles. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe. I enjoyed your video riding through Victoria. I'm with you 100% on the simplicity of the Heritage. I really do like the RK special as it too has a very open front area. I do not require the fancy fairing with all the distractions that they present to you when riding. Congrats on the new bike and I hope you enjoy many great miles of riding. Thank you. You've provided me some information to think about. I just demo'd the RK Special. It is a heavy machine. And I found the stock handle bar to be a bit too wide for my liking, and particularly in turning. I like the blacked out look, and it was the engine that impressed (114). So maybe the Heritage is the better pick after all, not to mention less expensive. As an ADV rider generally, it will take some adjustments to riding these more cruising type bikes.

    The Heritage Softail has a lower-slung chassis compared to the Road King.
    The Road King is heavier and longer than the Heritage Softail.
    The Road King has better suspension and ground clearance compared to the Heritage Softail.
    The Heritage Softail is more user friendly and comfortable.
    The Road King’s engine is mounted using the rubber mount methodology while the Heritage Softail is mounted with the newer counterbalance method.
    The Heritage Softail is much more agile and maneuverable. This makes it suitable for everyday commuting also so you would get more use out of it.
    Better wind protection on the Road King.
    It is up to the person on which they would want over the other, both are good motorcycles, and different aspects may appeal to one person than another.

I rode nearly 400 miles over the weekend, and 715 with @NCStoney last weekend. Great choice with the Heritage, Stoney loves his and for what you want in a bike, it’s probably the best one. I have a question about the Heritage. How does it handle in corners. I was watching some videos at other bikes I’m interested in for example the Indian Scout. Some people say it doesn’t feel good in corners. What’s your take on the Heritage in corners? Thanks for sharing keep posting videos.

    • @GARamblinMan
      @GARamblinMan  Před 3 lety

      The Loganville Memorial Day ride sounds awesome. I like the way the Heritage handles in all situations including corners. It’s smaller and lighter weight than the big tourers so it’s easier for me especially at lower speeds. At higher speeds it leans very easily into the turns and I’ve yet to scrape the floor boards. That being said it’s probably not as nimble as a smaller Indian Scout or Harley Sportster or Street Bob. But given the comfort of the ride on the Heritage I think it’s a winner. Thanks for watching and the nice comments. Ride safe.

    The Heritage is a great bike. Had a 2018 with the 114 for 3+ years, putting 18K on her. She was light and nimble, being a good all around bike. Even did Daytona Bike Week from Key West a couple of times with my son who has a 2018 Road King, but he had to carry some of my stuff on the King because of the limited cargo capacity in the Heritage’s bags. Having just moved up to the mainland, Stuart, Florida, and planning some long trips, I just traded her for a new Street Glide Special. But I will miss the Heritage for quick runs and Keys hopping.

    Similar to the decision I made. I looked at the electraglide , road king and heritage the pros for the RK and EG : hard bags, no spokes, faring , dual front discs and tour suspension.
    I went with the heritage for the blackout look, lighter , bars that fit me better , engine and the ability to take off the bags and wind screen.
    The problem I have with fairings is they are great in the winter. In the summer they decrease air flow a lot. It’s gets awfully hot here in Texas and I want that wind to cool me off.
    There is nothing wrong with metric cruisers. I had a Honda VTX in 2004 and it was a fine bike. A thing that’s not mentioned is metrics lose their value very fast. Harleys don’t.

    In so far as the saddlebags are concerned, I'm pretty sure that the only thing to be leather is the thin strip to which the rectangular studs are attached. This strip adorns the sides of the bags and wraps around to the rear and is what allows Harley Davidson to make the deceptive claim that the bags are wrapped in studded leather. Oh, and I just bought a (new) 2021 with the 114 and am very anxious for spring to arrive (I live in Canada so it's not here yet).

    I agree with you about not riding with fairings. If you have a full Fairing with GPS and Radios etc, you might as well buy a sports car or a Tricycle. Soft tail Heritage Classic has the old style that I like and unless you are 6’6” and weigh 250lbs, Heritage Classic is a better bike cuz its lighter, faster and nimble. The engine on the Heritage is also bigger for a lighter bike so it handles like a fighter. Heritage is a sports car like new Corvette versus Road King is a Chevy Camaro.

      I do get the wind coming up from under the windshield and around the tank on my new Heritage. Pretty much just like the Boulevard. I think some lower wind deflectors would help but that’s a low priority for me. I actually don’t mind some wind on me so long as it’s not beating at my mid section and chest. The windshield keeps that from being a problem. I love the mini ape handlebars on the Heritage. Very comfortable riding position. Thanks for watching and commenting. Ride safe!

      Good point on the lean angle. The old models of the Heritage (2017 and earlier) were terrible for leaning and the floorboards were always scraping. The newer models are better.
