So here's a little correction for the Sanrio crossover in the Animal Crossing series, the first debut of the series was in Animal Crossing: New Leaf's "Welcome amiibo" update.
But Sanrio wasn't the first crossover with Animal Crossing. *Way* before the update, both 7-Eleven and Kokuyo Camlin teamed up with Nintendo to release various furniture related to their respective brands, one of the items from 7-Eleven's promotional items was an ABD/Bellpoint which was handy for storing excess Bells when you didn't want to walk to the post office... for some reason. After the Welcome amiibo update a special villager related to 77-Eleven named Filly could be invited into the RV campground but couldn't move into your town. Her first appearance was from November 4th, 2016 to January 5th, 2017 with her second appearance being from March 2nd, 2018 to May 6, same year.
Filly wasn't the only special crossover villager with ties to a real-world brand though. A Japanese glue brand named Fueki also collaborated with Nintendo and released three *real-world glue pots* of their glue with the pots themselves being modeled after Digby, Isabelle and K.K. Slider and then later from February 1st, 2017 to May 1st, same year released a special villager named Holden (who was modeled after their mascot named Fueki-kun) who just like Filly, could be invited to the RV Campgrounds but couldn't move into your town.

    • @newageBoundhippie
      @newageBoundhippie Před 3 měsíci +5

plus the Welcome amiibo update also included a Monster Hunter crossover with a villager & items unlocked via any Monster Hunter Stories amiibo ( sadly those never got a western release...though I was lucky enough to import 1 before the prices reached typical insane scalper bs levels )

It funny because many of these brands are of course American, and while many American brands are sold worldwide, some aren't, so as a European the product placement itself sometimes flies completely over my head where I think it's something they just made up for the game. Like the Olive Garden thing at the end of the first Sonic movie. I had never heard of it so I thought it was a made-up restaurant/café or whatever.

Pokémon Sword/Shield also collaborated with Uniqlo, with their own UT Grand Prix, where people submit designs, and some would be released as shirts you could buy at Uniqlo. The winning design was meant to be in-game permanantly, however, the design had broken rules stating that the design could not have been published in fan-made merch prior to the contest, which it did. So instead, we have no Uniqlo shirt in Pokémon.

The enthusiasm and passion you put into making this are clearly visible. Also, the DKR segment totally caught me off guard. I know it's much easier said than done, but please don't get discouraged by a "low" view count. It does not take away from the quality of the video, and there are many of us here who truly appreciate the work and effort you put into your videos.

Just a note about the babymetal collab, you mentioned that the costumes featured the band members su, moa and momo. But that is not really true, those are the current babymetal members, back when this costume was released momoko wasn’t a member of babymetal yet, and instead it was the original member Yui metal. Not really anything important but as a babymetal fan just wanted to mention that since yui used to be my favorite member

This is a great idea (and execution) for an overlooked niche in Nintendo history. Makes me want a similar video of Nintendo referencing its own history and consoles in its games, like Virtual Boy in Tomodachi Life, the NES emulators in Animal Crossing, the consoles in your homes in Pokemon, the Game Boy Horror, the Tingle Tuner or the Sheikah Slate... I'm sure there's lots more.

Something else worth noting about Splatoon is their collab with Tower Records. In real life, Tower Records sells/sold the OST releases for Splatoon, and in the games, there’s not only a Tower Records ad written in the Inkling language, but also a Grizzco outfit called the Record Shop Look EP, which has an apron with the Tower Records logo on it.
There’s also gear for CoroCoro Comic, a Famitsu brand, The King of Games as both a brand and gear in the game, the Squidfin Hook Cans are an official HORI product, and though less blatant than the others, 7-Eleven stores in Japan offered exclusive gear for Splatoon 2.
EDIT: Also COMPLETELY forgot to mention the various Nintendo systems found in the Pokemon games, like how in Scarlet and Violet the player owns a Nintendo Switch.

    Some extra ones!
Wave Race: Blue Storm also had some light product placement! I distinctly remember seeing a Mcdonalds logo on some character's jetski, and I think the other jetskis may have had ads as well.
And Splatoon 2 also got some brand deal gear in Japan! By buying products form certain brands, you could get exclusive gear in the game. I don't think any of it directly advertised the brands, so it's not *really* product placement in the game's sense, but yeah. Japan still got product-based the rest of the world didn't. You couldn't even order it from Murch, making it truly Japan exclusive.. #gearforall !

24:47 I didn’t realize it at first either (because they for some reason avoided mentioning it in‐game this time), but the “potato chip flavours” splatfest is considered to be an official tie‐in with the Calbee brand. Materials like the Nintendō website made it clear that it’s a collab with Calbee. The company sold squid‐ink chips with the Splatoon 3 logo around that time (I bought some for my archive). Maybe it doesn’t count for the video since it wasn’t embedded in the game data.
I thought this video was going to be a US‐focused one because you didn’t bring up the regional differences of Pikmin 2 at all (No Duracell in Japan), so I was a bit surprised later.

Also I'll admit, I didn't like Splatoon all that much (wasn't bad or anything, but, eh...), but if it wasn't for Splatoon I would've never got into Squid Girl. lol

I cannot abide by this Mc Nuggie slander Daniel. Especially when copared to the greesy, flacid, soft mess that is a McDonald's fry.

I can't believe you didn't talk about the 7/11 Animal Crossing horse. Basically: In the Welcome Amiibo update, you could go to a 7/11 in Japan at certain times to invite Filly the horse to your campsite, but you couldn't get her in your town. She'd sell you 7/11 items, though! Including a uniform...
There was another product placed character, for a glue/stationary company. Holden. (Thankfully not a horse, but a bright. yellow. hamster.) I dunno, I think it's funny as fuck.
Speaking of Weird Animal Crossing Crossovers, there's the cat and dog who seem tamagochi-like but are actually based on animal translation devices. Meow and Bow.

Nothing gets language communities more excited than seeing their language in a worldwide release. I was pretty excited seeing Vitamalz in Pimin 2 on Wii, but Finnish people must have been ecstatic if their snack wasn't in a dogshit game.
