2008 Song was made by the nr 1 (best known and the oldest) comedy group in Estonia to basicly laught on most of the songs (since it has been a joke, only political and no good songs let to local finale to choose the song that will represent the country) cos songs/performances 2004 and on

Just for context, the mid 2000's were abysmal for us, often being unqualified for finals when other much worse songs got voted in, to which, Estonians nearly gave up and sent the 2008 parody song, because everyone was almost like, "who cares, we won't get in anyway". It just felt all political and not fair at all. Then ESC changed their voting system etc and we started qualifying again, with much less issues.

    • @coglygp

Felt it when nechayeva got low ratings.. and this was recently

    • @SideKickStudios
      @SideKickStudios Před rokem +4

@@coglygp Very true. I think there's always an element of "vote for your neighbour" present in Eurovision, but we've seen this reduce somewhat. And i do agree, Nechayeva was a force of its own and did feel undervoted, but i guess it's just up to how people feel, what clicks and what's the competition like.
In many cases, the song selection of any given year also affects, which songs stand out and which ones are either uninteresting ore get lost in other similar songs. It's a bit of a lottery, and while individual songs can be great, in the mix, they just aren't appreciated the same.
Politics also plays a role, and how people feel at that time. In no mean sense, last year, i personally didn't think Ukranian song to be the strongest, but i still voted for it in solidarity and support, because that's how i felt.

For the song in 2004. Estonia has some dialects, coming from areas of the country. I think the song and the artist name is all in a dialect, called 'Võru dialect'. It's not Estonian national language. 'Tii' in the dialect, is translated into 'road' (Can be seen on the screen below the song name). Most of the words in the dialect aren't much different from the Estonian language, a bit different.

Thanks for your reaction video and greetings from Estonia! It's a shame that most of the time I didn't hear what you said😕Mike level too low and music track too loud. Maybe you could improve in the future?🙂
Few insights - this 2001 song, as far as I know It isn't featured in any movies. Anyway, it's great you recognized it. Since it was a winning song, many EV related compilations contain it. Maybe that's why it's familiar to you?
And the dress from 2018 song - rental of this very special projection equipment cost Estonian broadcaster over 60 000 € 😁 But it was GREAT to watch it on EV stage and, imo, well worth the expense.
And yes, it would be great to have your reaction to next years Estonian national selection songs🤩They are easily found on YT under Eesti Laul 2023

For anyone who is absolutely confused about the 2008 song Leto Svet: it was a troll entry. I recommend watching the whole thing because it's astonishing to see the entire crowd completely silent, that never happens in EV. Some other things about the song:
The lyrics were nonsense (the first line means "Who am I? Check please!") and incorrect Serbian, to mock the meaningless English lyrics brought to the contest each year (looking at you, Belarus). They also waved around the flag of the host country.
They had to have the half-naked girls to get attention. The dancing was terrible and overly simplistic on purpose because of all the terrible dancing found in Eurovision.
They sang off-key on purpose to mock the amateurs (probably intended for Jemini).
The yellow guy's haircut was supposed to parody Dave Benton.
They sang in three different languages to show how people got massive votes from other countries (and it worked for them; they got 7 points from Finland for being their neighbor and for singing in Finnish).
And finally, the piano humping symbolized what the amateurs do to music in Eurovision.
