The Formovie V10 could BREAK the home projector market.

- After seeing the Formovie V10 at CES 2023 I immediately ordered the Chinese version to see if it could possibly be as good as they claim. Turns out it probably isn't, but still might be the best value 4K projector on the market.

has the V10 released in the US yet?
@@animal579 nope, Formovie decided to release the X5 instead. X5 is great though.
Crazy thing is I don’t even want a projector, your videos are just really fun and educational
Thanks Dani!
Knowledge is power. Projectors with false lumen claims also carries into the flashlight industry.
What an amazing review! I really loved how you tested the claims by the manufacturer. It was unbiased, to the point, and entertaining - simply perfect !
I hate that they lie even when the product they have is impressive. Makes me not want to trust the build quality if they are willing to lie though.
3:43 the explanation you go on to give is why i subbed .. thats some extensive work and its awesome your efforts protect the consumer!
Love your in depth, no nonsense review style!
My go to guy for honest unbiased, straight to the fact projector reviewer when checking out new projectors to buy. Amazing work you do sir!
Thanks Philip!
@@TheHookUp Thinking of picking up the Dangbei Mars Pro, after watching your breakdown list. Have you had the chance to test it's claimed 120hz mode? What did you think of it?
did he cover the projection angle? i didn't see it
these cheap chinese projectors are rubbish for a number of reasons... from unrealistic claims to lack of features, whats the point of a projector if it needs to be propped up on a tripod in the middle of your lounge room to get a decent picture?
go with a reputable brand where they don't cut such fundamental corners, they are the same price, for example you can get a benq px728-4k or px747-4k for a similar price, the lamp is serviceable and the quality of the product, image and it's features will crap over these cheaply made "cheap" over hyped projectors
if the reviewer didn't cover this then your comment doesn't appear to be accurate
So let me get this straight. You come in here saying my review is garbage because I didn’t cover “projection angle”, by which I assume you mean v/h offset since “projection angle” isn’t a thing. Then you go on to recommend two bulb projectors from “BENQ” (those are actually viewsonic models) that don’t have h or v lens shift, so you end up with the exact same issue you are complaining about?
@@TheHookUp you're right i meant viewsonic, great projectors, i upgraded from a w1070 so had benq on my mind
not lens shift, i am talking about the angle of projection, is it offset or does it project straight like all the other crappy brand projectors where 50% of the image is below the height of the projector and the other 50% is above
reputable brands project the image from where the projector is installed, so the bottom of the image is parallel to the projectors height
this makes it ideal for either installation behind the lounge or on the ceiling, without this you need a tripod in the center of your lounge room to position the projector for optimal viewing, why didn't you cover this?
what is just ignorance on your part or is it because it would outline an obvious flaw with the projector that the company would approve of?
at any rate i don't see how this projector can rival the viewsonic model i mentioned which is available at the same price, actually half price if the current 50% deal on aliexpress is legit, ridiculous!
There is a trick to get proper HDMI 2.1 features is to switch to 1.4 first let it load then jump back to 2.1 this unlocks all the goodies for me. I have to do it every single time which is not my definition of fun but I can see the difference in responsiveness.
What website did you buy it from ? How is it in gaming
This is going to be my first projector! Thank you!
Never knew about this channel before then BOOM, some serious testing here. Nicely done!
Very nice and finally 4k small projectors hit the market. Thank you for wonderful reciew, valid 👍😃
Great review. Thanks for the testing and analysis
Hey, just wanted to say high from Argentina. Thanks for your great videos and dedication
impressively thurough testing from a channel i have never even heard of. Subscribed!
Amazing review as always, thanks!
Hey, as usual, great work and love the video. Your channel has singlehandedly sparked in me the interest of buying a projector instead of a TV due to its practicality and other great aspects like portability in some cases. Thanks a lot for making such detailed unbiased videos.
I am looking for an overall good projector to buy for home use considering all factors like cost, brightness, power consumption, etc. Could you make a video combining price categories with projector features as well? Like best projector under 500, 1000, etc? That would be great help in making the right choice. I have seen that in some of your videos you also have the link to excel files comparing everything, and you also have an overall rating somewhere too but I couldn't find it. I would appreciate the help. Thanks
Thanks for this detailed video . Can you also review Xgimi Elfin?
I was so excited that you were getting one in after your Expo video - great review as always. This is a nice little unit for above average specs on a budget. My only quibble would be as I associate a projector with a true movie experience (despite being more or less inferior to TV screens) I'm paying for integrated audio components that I will never use in my surround sound set up so would like to see a stripped down version with no speakers. I suppose that's nice thing about UST's and their ability to be used potentially as a centre.
You have to experience the sound to believe it, it really is incredible. I’d say you would need to spend $500+ on a soundbar that could come close to the v10 integrated speakers.
@@TheHookUp I don't disagree that the sound is great as it looks very capable, I'm just saying the projector is going to sit behind me where I have 2 rears already and as such I won't be using it's speakers to confuse a 5.1/7.1 setup. (That is unless it doesn't muddy the water as a rear L+R+centre+sub lol)
Awesome review as always, well done! Just a question, when is the European / US version expected to be released?
Great review with some substantial data and measurements! Can you include some sharpness tests/photos in the future videos?
A lot of thanks for share with us your experience
Great insight, as always!
Thanks for explaining the ANSI lumens measurement protocol in this video haha
great, honest review... as usual.
Proud to be a patron! As usual great work.
Thanks David!
Another good video....As usual.
Great review! When will we have the review of the JMGO N1 Ultra Triple Laser 4K projector? It seems this projector will be released globally
Interesting review. Have you planed to test Formovie S5 ? He looks amazing and i'm hesitating between him and The Freestyle 😇
Chart at 2:00, Anker 4k Laser is 2400 ISO Lumens not ANSI Lumens. Both are close but slightly different.
Thanks!
I’d love to see an updated Ubiquiti / Home Assistant / MQTT series of videos for 2023. Your older videos were the best of the best, but they are starting to show their age with all of the updates out there :)
I'd like this too. I finally got around to setting up Home Assistant on a pi and I am now starting to figure out the rest.
Good job man! bought the Nexigo PJ40 as soon as your video came out! I use it almost every day and it sits right above my bed and allows me to have a 110 inch youtube/gaming/movie watching setup in my bed!
I'm planning on upgrading to a higher end projector but not over 1000 dollars, do you have any suggestions?
great review! I just order one, what software version does yours come with?
thank you so much for all the time and hard work you put into your videos. Wanted to know if you can compare the formovie v10 and the epson ef12 mini. I think that would be a great comparison.
This will not be the last time we see the V10 on my channel. Hopefully I'll have the US version though.
@@TheHookUp sounds like a plan to me.
Could you review the Mecool kp1? It seems to be a great challenger for the Nexigo PJ40.
Got my V10 about 2 months ago (the Chinese version as I don't care about the smart features), coupled with a capable PC and the right cable it just flies. Never going back to monitors/TVs, I am eying it's little sibling the S5 now which looks impressive for the form factor as it's even more portable than the V10.
Hi, did you get the s5? Witch one do you recommend more?
I heard about the S5 and it's not on Amazon where did you get it?
I can't decide what to get:
Xgimi Mogo pro 2
Formovie V10
Or the S5
@@mararuiz-vs6dj
I personally recommend the V10 which is by far the best of these 2 options (true 1080p, 4K with extrapolation of pixels, true 120Hz...). But the V10 consumes 220W at peak against 65W for the S5 and costs about twice as much.
@@maliknexus
Depends on your needs
If you are looking for the best picture out there the V10 hands down
If you are looking for portability and efficiency you can choose between the Mogo 2 Pro or the S5 depending on your budget.
Watching this on my V10, this my 1st projector experience ever (outside the corpo world) and I am really impressed for the price, I wanted something I could get with me if I had to move and don't worry about how bulky and impractical it is, thanks for the review.
Is it worth buying how is it on series X
What website did you buy it from
Can you do a test Epson ef12. I would like to see how he compare with others on a market. Great movie !
OMFG i was waiting for this video
Thanks so much for the fantastic review. Could you review this JMGO N1 kickstarter projector soon please? JMGO N1 Ultra 4K
The problem with reviewing early units is that those units are hand picked for reviewers, so there's no guarantee that the hardware I am testing is the same as the hardware you will receive. Also, when testing pre-production units they often come with the caveat of "this feature will be available via firmware update at a later date", which I believe is the case right now with 3D support on the N1 Ultra.
I'm happy to do a full round of testing and comparison once production units start shipping, but I don't feel comfortable putting my name/brand on a review if I can't be sure that people watching the video will have the same experience.
Great info. Subbed
that little sub built into the bottom is so cute
I’m looking for a projector to be put in my bedroom for movies/tv shows. The distance the project will be from the screen will be 12 feet away because of the layout of the bedroom. There will be zero light in the bedroom while watching. Portability, speakers, and os do not matter since I’ll be using surround sound and a Roku ultra. What is your recommended projector with this specific use and layout. I was looking at the horizon pro, Mars pro, and the v10 but was not sure if that was total overkill for the reason listed above.
I thought about getting the pj40 but the projector will be about 3 feet over my head and the sound you listed I thought would be a bit to distracting. Still torn between a 70in tv or your recommended projectors.
Would you prefer this over the GS50? I was thinking about the GS50 because of its claimed amazing sound
Great review! I was almost certain on getting the Xgimi Horizon Pro until I came across this review. Checking Amazon, the V10 is now at $999. Very tempting.
One question and not sure if you had tested is the keystone capability on the V10. The Xigimi allows very flexible placement with +/- 40 degree vertical and horizontal off-set. So, I can place the projector off to the side on the coffee table.
Can V10 do that?
Hey, i was wondering will you ever do a video on how to calibrate a projector image?
No one tests input lag, as scientifically as u do,n just for that u have a loyal subscriber
Could you do a recommendation on cheapest 3d projector? I'd like to buy one, but no one has reviews. I'm currently using a moto mod projector lol.
I am starting to become a mural artist and was wondering what you would suggest? I've seen some artist use a projector called the LG Cinebeam. Do you have any advice about that one?
Your videos have been the most helpful by Far! I appreciate your time and energy.
what is the warranty process for projectors like this? lets say you buy from amazon, but have an issue 6 months from now. do you normally have to ship it back to china?
Great review. Thank you! Does this have short-throw capability or must it be used like a traditional projector, placed away from the wall?
The V10 is standard throw (1.27:1).
Hey, I own v10 Chinese version for over 2 months. I have bought it for 950$. I love it. Definitely it doesn’t feels as a TV but I would never get such a big TV Screen. I use Xiaomi 4K TV Stick to get a “normal” OS and sometimes if I have movies on USB stick, I play them directly. It worth its money!
Can you change the language to English in the settings?
@@maliknexus yes English is present in settings. But some apps are still in Chinese, but I don't use them.
i was never interested into projectors due to price
but this one is a great value for features
tbh i will def get the gen 2 of this one (better chip, and lumens)
I have a BenQ 4K projector and it sits on my coffee table. I stopped using my large screen TV and pretty much only use the projector. the reflected light off the screen seems to be a lot less fatiguing over time than the light that is emitted from the TV screen, FWIW. I wish this would have been available when I shopped projectors. The lack of fan noise is a huge plus in its favor.
There are bulb projectors with similar features. The ViewSonic PX701-4K has 4k pixel shift, 3200 Lumens, 240Hz refresh rate @ 1080p, and 4.2ms response time with a MRSP of $900. The form factor is very different though. This looks like a great projector if you want the ability to move it from room to room.
hdmi 2.1?
hdmi 2.1 means nothing in the asbence of high refresh rate 4k or 60hz 8K display capabilities. Whether either projector has hdmi 2.1 is completely meaningless
@@bishcashani2426 Exactly
@@bishcashani2426 the question can it do 4k120
It’s a bulb. Way shorter life span and it’s without speaker or OS. Not really a comparison
I really appreciate your thoroughly researched, transparent and very well presented reviews!!
Are you planning on reviewing more of those recently released lifestyle (laser) beamers such as the JMGO N1 Ultra or the Fengmi (Formovie) X5 4K Laser?
Yes, that video will be out next week
@@TheHookUp now that was a quick response! Thank you for delivering!!
Gonna review the Vidda C1 or the Jmgo N1 Ultra, anytime soon? Both sub $1500 tri-laser 4K projectors.
Between EPSON CO-FH02, BenQ TH575 and Optoma HD28i what would you choose? (epson is 3lcd and the other are dlp)
I’m about to buy the Benq ht2060 as it looks to me that is the best under $1000 all round projector, do you think there’s anything better on the market right now?
Awesome video
I’m surprised they’re still pixel shifting. Are there any true 4K ones in this price range with decent brightness and low enough response time?
Can you do a Comparison between dangbei 4k the V10 And the Formovie S5 ?
Hongtop s30 vs thundealtd90 which one is best ? On AliExpress in cheap
I trust you and you havent led me wrong
I would love to see a lineup of gaming projectors (short lag time) maybe 18ms or less with best contrast / black levels.
This is most important for me when it comes to gaming as input lag is important for obvious reason and great black levels being important for a lot of games that can get dark in certain scenes where you need to look around and see and find things.
Also would like to know which ones have an optical audio out as a lot of us gamers hook their gaming consoles next to the projector at the back of the room and run our single fiber optic audio cable back to the front of the room for our home theater receiver or sound bar. Unfortunately a lot of the gaming consoles such as the PS5 are loosing the optical output so to have it available on a projector is almost a must now.
Thanks!
Hi you have probably got this request a couple of times but is it possible to do an in depth review of the everything smart home sensor, it’s a bit expensive (£60) but you could try and ask him for a review sample but from your videos you don’t do paid sponsorships so idk. It would be appreciated. Thanks
@TheHookUp would you still recommend this now? Aliexpress is sending it at 900 euros to europe. Thank you in advance for your response. If you don´t recommend it.. are the alternatives the same?
I’d recommend the formovie x5 over the v10.
@@TheHookUp Thank you for still answering old video!!! 1300 euros (aliexpress) vs 900 euros, but i checked and the specs are definitely different too! Thank you so much. Will consider it :)
Thank you! Interesting for sure. Just why did you not talk about some practical aspects of it? Like, does it have zoom? If not, what picture size can I throw at which distance? And if you have a home cinema with screen and fixed position, fittings, cables etc. for the projector this projector is not usable without zoom.
Only digital zoom, this type of projector is less suited for proper home theater use.
@@TheHookUp Thanks. This is not obvious to me, as someone who buys a new projector once in 5-10 years.
Hello, thanks.. please, Are there with 110 Voltios?
Isn't the leobodnar tester like the timesleuth? If so then you should get different time readings between top and bottom. So the input latency at the top of the frame is perhaps those 12ms.
Yes, I tested all 3 blocks.
@@TheHookUp ok, that is unfortunate. Still good value, but if it's mainly for gaming I'd look elsewhere.
Thanks for the video 😊
How is auto or manual keystone compared to the xgimi? I have to place my projector at an angle, so this feature is important to me. Also seem like it has a big subwoofer with good bass, so does the image vibrate if a really high bass video is played?
It was very accurate
TVs are getting cheaper, as screens get bigger, but projectors as the components get cheaper hike up their prices year on. Influencers need to stop promoting projectors until the price drops significantly
Do you have any experience with the viewsonic px701-4k? Seems to be similar in specs and price, but I can’t find a solid review. Appreciate any info you might have!
Never used it. It’s a lamp projector though so only 3000ish hours on full brightness. The 20,000 hour number they list is only on super eco (about 1/3 brightness)
Hey! How are u? Do you know when it will be released in the US?
No official release date yet.
Any word or update on the us version release date?
This would make a great portable/outdoor screen projector for parties..etc...I have (2) projectors ceiling mounted..Panasonic pt ae 8000 for 3d and optoma uhd 65 4k pixel shifter that is great on my 150" dalite screen..I cant wait for the benq ht 4550i led 4k pixel shiffter to be sold in april/may this year...it got a best in class at this yr's 2023 CES award...
Yeah, the BENQ is going to be amazing.
Hello. What do you say about the comparison between your Panasonic and the Optoma? Is the difference in image quality big? I have the AE7000 and I'm thinking of getting another one but I don't know if it's worth buying a simpler one.
How about contrast and black levels compared to Horizon Pro? Did Formovie gave you an estimate season/month for releasing it? Thank you!
Contrast levels are listed in the graphic at the end, the Formovie is slightly lower contrast than the horizon pro.
Do you have to have this projector in the center, or can you put it on a side and still get straight picture using auto keystone? Like I mean putting it on a nightstand, etc.? I don't really want to drill holes in my bedroom and put it above my head.
You can have it off center and use auto keystone, but it’s digital keystone so picture quality will not be as good as if you had it mounted in the center and focus uniformity will not be as good.
Pleaaaaasee more videos like this with newer models
I love my projector. This one would be fine for me. I attach a low latency Bluetooth transmitter to the headphone out and a low latency BT receiver at my stereo hifi, and the you get at least good stereo sound from the picture side of the room...
did you now something about the new actualization launch?
How was the HDR performance? Is it too dark or as good as a laser projector?
Can you do a review on the NOMVDIC X300
Hey buddy, I love your reviews but.... why I keep seeing a lot of blue from the images fired by most of the projectors you review? The bit from Star Wars was just blue light everywhere.
Are there any budget/value home theater component systems that can be upgraded periodically like the old school stereo cabinet systems were back in the day that you can recommend?
Not sure I fully understand your question. Are you asking if home theater AVRs still exist? Yes.
Hi dr.. please review Jmgo n1 ultra
I wonder if they can fix the lag with an update.
I don't know why they claim so "high" and deliver max. a third of that 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Gaming is the main thing, i would be interested in with this one 🙄
For movies, the formovie is awesome for the price!
I’ve looked through your other videos and I don’t see a short throw projector called AWOL review… have you done one? I’m interested if the specks also live up to the hype. Both the 3500/2500
czcams.com/video/od1W43Oua4w/video.html I haven't tested the 2500, but this one has the 3500 and 8 other USTs.
Hi bro did you try Byntek r17 pro . It is 4k 750 Ansi 3d projector. It is now on sale for 450 USD is it worth?
Formovie Dice was released the same way which I own - the International variant has different specs and processors - I would wait until the American version is released
hey love your videos. what about rainbow effect on these? i don't know if i should go with one of these or an epson e12 or ls300
I've found that triple laser and triple LED projectors tend to have less RBE than single laser or single LED light sources, and those have less RBE than traditional bulbs.
What is Max throw distance of this sort of projectors? Great explanation.
200”
What about Epson tw-6250 or tw-7000 ?
Please review the JMGO N1 Ultra I only trust your thorough reviews. Especially ANSI for a claimed 4000
I plan on reviewing the N1 Ultra, probably around the same time as the US release of the US Formovie V10 and the Hisense C1.
Any chance you are planning to review the JMGO N1 Ultra soon?
Once it is available as a production unit, yes. I don't review kickstarter products because the early units that get sent to reviewers often have different hardware than the final production units.
if the imput lag goes up with refresh rate then it most likey scaling down the frame rate and is not true 120+
Can you do a new video where you compare some projectors around the sub 500 bucks range? Or do you have any specs that should def be included in that price range or some special projectors that fit the price and are pretty decent?
That's a pretty tough price range. Your best bet is going to be a lightly used projector on eBay. You should look for a name brand (Epson, Benq, Optoma, Viewsonic) 1080p native bulb projector with at least 2500 lumens.
I'm so jealous of the $2000 msrp you guys have for the BenQ x3000i! Here in Europe they bumped it up to €2400 somewhere last year and I'm not buying it at that price for sure!
2000 MSRP is without tax (VAT)
They definitely need to make them cheaper. Projectors do not need to cost that much.
Would you review the best 5 projectors for under $1000 please?
Do you will try hisense vidda c1s?
Could you test JMGO N1 Ultra?
