I absolutely love Sara Mearns, she's not full of herself she's so calm and down to earth. I relate to a lot of things that she says. She's beautiful inside and out, and one of my absolute favorite dancers.

You are absolutely correct on all counts. She dances with such emotion -- fearless. One day we'll all go back to the theater.

Sara always dances 200% Last year a back injury kept her fro dancing for eight months. She is very sweet and thoughtful and very down to earth. Check out her Facebook page, Instagram and her blog on the Huffington Post.

Watching Miss Mearns reminds me of a lioness- such an incredible, palatable presence. She is fiercely feminine. She appears to me as equal parts earthy and ethereal. It is oh so intriguing and appealing and imho is what sets her apart and perhaps above many of her peers.

Sara Mearns strikes me as someone who is as lovely a human being off stage as she is a dancer on stage.

She is. After Hurricane Sandy, she brought food and clothing to those in need on Staten Island. Several months later invited them to a performance at the Koch Theater. All done without the press there

You are the only person (other than me who noticed that.) I saw her do that when I shot the ballet and cut that frame out as a screen saver for my Ipad. Swan Lake was the season opener for the NYCB earlier this month and Sara danced. There were bows between parts and when she bowed as Odette she looked as though she was suducing the audiance, Odile was totally different sad and vulneralble. She is quite the dancer!

Gorgeous figure, actually looks like a woman and not a 12 year old boy dancing a woman's role in a tutu which equals beauty and sexy allure. Ironically, men like a figure, go "figure". I dance and my better half comments on the "skinny" girls, says they look horrible, yet can appreciate their talent. He cringes when I show him top videos. THIS he commented on the other way with a "finally" a pretty woman! Fun and powerful to watch, athletic mixed with fragile vulnerability = artistry. We know she wont break or faint off stage and can rest easy knowing she probably takes amazing care of herself. Stunning work girl, good for you.

How about you don't insult one body type to compliment another? Some people are naturally extremely thin, some are not. Sara Mearns is very thin, but she has a wider frame so she doesn't appear waif-like. Someone who is naturally very narrow-framed and thin/not curvy is no less a woman and it's super damaging to constantly hear people say that you are not a real woman. All ballet dancers are thin, the reason some appear wider is just bone structure. Most dancers aren't terribly curvy because dancing for 8+ hours every day is going to do that to you.

    • @christar9527

Michelle Coutois Some dancers are just naturally extremely skinny. I was even though I ate everything in sight! You can be very thin and athletic too.

*****. Sorry but refering to a ballerina as a"stout", seems pretty rude to me.
Stout...meaning fat, heavy, corpulent, plump...none of thses fit Miss. Mearns at all. She has a square-ish torso. And her limbs and neck, while elongated, they do not reach the extremes of the typical Mariinsky girl. And she certainly isn't like a Royal ballet girl either, though truthfully they are the only company I've heard of that value the look of frailty and fragility in ballerinas. Indeed these days I would say the look is more slim and athletic or slim and very feminine than anything else.
Its pretty clear that she's not "heavy" by any stretch of the imagination.

Just read Don't Think Dear. One of the dancers going to SAB was told she should quit because her neck would be too short, and another because her shins would be too long. Glad to see that nobody told Sara any nonsense like that. I love watching her because she looks like me, shorter, muscular, like a female athlete, not a preteen.

Although this was shot many years ago, Sara continues to amaze. For some, ballet is about perfection of the line, or technique, but Sara brings a purity of emotion to her dance. Sitting in the audience, it is that emotion that resonates with the viewer.

Thank you for this comment. Sara brings an emotional quality to her dancing that is unmatched . I don’t know much about body types, but to watch he dance is to be amazed. She is fearless.

Arms just not good - stiff & unflowing. Shoulders hunched. Feet not good. Fouettes awful and weak and completely unpointed foot. She's a lovely person and beautiful. And though some areas are strong - like her arabesque and line, but her ballet technique in different areas is simply strained and sub-standard.
