I pray wholeheartedly for healing and harmony among the artists of the Bolshoi. And healing especially for the director. This is a sorrowful thing. To represent such a beautiful tradition there needs also to be peace and collegiality and most of all, love. May it be so.
🎉❤😊 We Love You Twyla Tharp 🎉 Thank you for Playing ❤
Ирина Александровна Колпакова -выдающаяся советская балерина, идеальное телосложение! Маленькая аккуратная голова, пропорции -самые гармоничные! У американских артистов балета руки...недостаточно внимания они уделяют положению и движению рук.
Is that Michaela Prince at 0:35? She has a phenomenal story. Whoever that dancer is, she is fantastic to watch. Kudos to Arthur Mitchell for his work in starting the Dance Theatre of Harlem. They are the other globetrotters of Harlem. Those talented folk have been invited to dance all over the world--except Greenland. One of their former dancers told me they were part of the festivities surrounding the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. I wish Diana had pirouetted her way onto the plane with them; she might have been happier.

Yes, that is Michaela. Her backstory was a little too painful to go into depth. She left Dance Theater of Harlem to go to. I believe it was the Dutch National Ballet. For a while she was doing a video blog while she was on tour. You might be able to find that on CZcams but I'm very happy that you enjoyed the story.
@@CaptainVideo13 Hello. Thank you for your response. I did enjoy the story and watched the graceful dancers troupe multiple times. They were beautifully gratifying to watch! Whenever Arthur Mitchell or DTH was on tv, that was "Everybody sit down, be quiet and look at these proud people" time.
Just read Don't Think Dear. One of the dancers going to SAB was told she should quit because her neck would be too short, and another because her shins would be too long. Glad to see that nobody told Sara any nonsense like that. I love watching her because she looks like me, shorter, muscular, like a female athlete, not a preteen.
Although this was shot many years ago, Sara continues to amaze. For some, ballet is about perfection of the line, or technique, but Sara brings a purity of emotion to her dance. Sitting in the audience, it is that emotion that resonates with the viewer.
Thank you for this comment. Sara brings an emotional quality to her dancing that is unmatched . I don’t know much about body types, but to watch he dance is to be amazed. She is fearless.
Thanks for sharing it.
Bob, great video. Wondering if you would allow Longhouse to use some of this footage for our website? If so, let me know how to connect.
yes, you can

I saw this Company in the late 1990s when they were touring Arizona. They were so amazing. Earlier one of the traditional white ballet companies came through and the dancers all look so thin and emaciated. These dancers all looked like track stars.. So athletic! Such energy!
Hey, Bob. I just found your channel, while I was looking for Sara Mearns video on CZcams. We used to work together at WNET in "the old days". I'm living in California, now. Hope you and Sondra are well. Franc Martarella
This is so educational.
I haven’t watched this in a while, but what I remember is Alexei is universally loved. He can get a dancer to do things they never thought they could do. Glad you liked the piece.
@@CaptainVideo13 I came here straight from watching this dance bit with Sara Mearns. His choreography is mesmerizing. czcams.com/video/imiFrArZwvg/video.html
Dear Virginia. You are and always will be The United States of America precious jewel. Thanks dear
Wendy, please work. Yes, Wendy. You are an explorer. Inspirational. Innocent. Inspiring. Find work. Please. Find. Work. Work.Find Wendy. Thanks.
what is this piece called? its incredible!
It is a rehersal for Twyla Tharp's Duece Coupe -- See the Twyla segment also on this feef
I absolutely love Sara Mearns, she's not full of herself she's so calm and down to earth. I relate to a lot of things that she says. She's beautiful inside and out, and one of my absolute favorite dancers.
You are absolutely correct on all counts. She dances with such emotion -- fearless. One day we'll all go back to the theater.
Ciaoo Virginia, I'm excited to hear you talk . Un abbraccio
One of my favorite seen in person many many times......🕊🇺🇲💕
I love her attitude! :)
It is not just her attitude as soon as you meet her you fall in love. This is not just my experience, it what everyone says.
Mrs. Kolpakova is the legend!! Not just upper or lower body use ( Misty Copeland is so primitive and so non intelligent, it's embarrassing !) but because of god's gift and PERFECT training. But also because of natural musicality, natural intuition and taste plus extreme inhuman work abilities. Irina is perfect sample of classical ballet ...beyond times, borders, nations or races... Misty should stand on her knees everyday to pray and thank , that she was so fortunate to even stand with such professional in the same room.
My goodness you sound so bitter. It is much more mature, more honorable, and much classier to praise Ms Kolpakova for her fantastic qualities, experience, teaching style, dedication, and so on without so much negativity about Ms. Copeland. Ms Copeland is an exceptional dancer, too. "Primitive" and "non intelligent" sounds like your opinion is rooted in racism. That's a horrible thing.
LOVE THIS!!!!!
It’s funny that so many people have watched this since it was only meant for me to screen my partner’s camera. If you liked this you should check out the edited version that can be found here as well. Or Search Twyla Tharp ABT
She is right ! Dance-choreography brings the greatest joy to the mover/creator! Nothing else can give us that joy!!!
Now Calvin and Skylar are moved up to principals!!!🩰🩰🩰
They are both wonderful people. I am sad for all the dancers who are not performing now. Sad for me too because I can't see them.
love Irina!!!!

I was here. In the second ring. Paying homage.
Dance Theater of Harlem and the Alvin Ailey Company were two of the most exciting companies around when I was growing up in the 60' and 70's. Arthur Mitchell's inspiration and energy made his dream a reality and opened the doors for black dancers and paved the way for the dancer's we see now.
Arms just not good - stiff & unflowing. Shoulders hunched. Feet not good. Fouettes awful and weak and completely unpointed foot. She's a lovely person and beautiful. And though some areas are strong - like her arabesque and line, but her ballet technique in different areas is simply strained and sub-standard.
Oh shut the fuck up brenda!
@@dancer2189 hahaha took the words right off my mouth. Who the hell is this brenda to say THE Sara Mearns is a sloppy dancer
I noticed those things as well. There’s definitely room for improvement. But that’s true of NYCB overall.
Finally the comment of a ballet connoisseur over here that noticed those things.

Personally, can't stand Sergei. His interview was so obnoxious, downplaying all the other styles of ballet when Russian ballet was birthed from different techniques coming together.
If you are director of a company of such artistic class as the Bolshoi Ballet, you certainly can be proud of it! Also, almost all good professional dancers from all over the world are profiting of the Vaganova system directly or indirectly, which simply produced so much more top dancers than any other system!
2020 ABT is the best ! NEW YORK CITY BALLET has fallen from grace and great dancers!
Kevin McKenzie is the ultimate Artistic Director!
♥️💃♥️🕺🏾♥️
She is perfection in pointe shoes. She flows like silk across the stage. Her movements are the epitome of grace, strength, and stamina. I loved Restless Creature, and I cried when she left the NYCB. It will never be the same!
Still amazes me..there is absolutely no fat
My master painter/drawing expert, friend, and best ever art teacher went to this League. He graciously taught me from the beginnings of drawing to where I did do a painting. My sincere thanks. Check Matthew Puskar Goldman . Facebook or just Google his name.
Thank you everyone very much.
My sister was the skeleton. She was killed. She was Jewish. So the blood libels are doubly false here.
13:25 what’s this ballet called?
Der Rosenkavalier
I grew up attending Dance Theatre of Harlem tour concerts and Afro-centric Broadway musicals with my family, these institutions were always a crucial part of our cultural identity and artistic asthetic as black Americans. It pains me to see that in contemporary times, when we speak of African American "dancers" in American pop culture, it most always refers to sex workers. It leaves me entirely confused as to how we've not been able to sustain our presence in fine arts...but then, to hear Ms. Johnson speak of the somewhat forced absence of our most prized dance influences and cultural institutions over time...if we cannot see ourselves elevated in sublime form in the arts, how should our children know the art, power, and beauty that they are capable of bringing forth in their creativity? I had the honor of seeing Ms. Johnson perform during her tenure within this company, and her performances have inspired me my whole life through. Dancers can indeed change and save the world, one child at a time.
Very good profile of Kolpakova. it would have been nice to see more clips of her instead of listening to Misty Copeland's extended musings.

Wow. Someone is bitter they’re not Misty ⬆️
6:16 wow and that derogatory tone... "I'm not putting on a dress" like that's the first ballet a man wears a skirt, tutu, dress etc. I can't stand that toxic "I'M A MANLY MAN DAMNIT" attitude some male dancers have, likely stemming from insecurity. They are employed in an art form of expression, don't like it- there's the door.
Many men would feel uncomfortable in a dress...it's really not bad like you make it sound.
Perhaps you should have listened properly to what Mr Hallberg said before writing such a dismissive comment. This ABT principal then went on to perform in Mr Ratmansky’s ‘The Bright Stream’ to great critical acclaim. You are also referring to a dancer where the doors of every major international company were wide open to him, until he very recently accepted the Artistic Directorship of the Australian Ballet. I am also trying very hard to think of another ballet where a male lead is asked to wear a tutu, dress or skirt and only the kilt worn by James in La Sylphide comes to mind, as I wouldn’t count the ugly sisters in Ashton’s ‘Cinderella’ because there were conceived as a parody of pantomime dames.
Hallberg is gay and was frequently bullied growing up as a result. I think wearing a dress has a really different meaning for him than it does for others as a result. It probably reminds him of when he was bullied.
What's the first song in the clip?
It sucks knowing you can get too old to dance ballet and then ... you’re nothing :(
You make me laugh bobette
Danielle Mo how are you Studio Danielle ? How’s Arthur going ?
Why are there green apples lined up for that principle dancer
I'm not sure and idk why apples but when I saw it I thought maybe it was to mark where the end of the stage would be ? strange tho lol
Like I say In the Machine Love you Pops
Yes girl.
I like that. "Hydration".
how far away from basic humanity do you have to be to do what israel has done? the only way back from things like this is total admission and commitment to breaking the cycle by not participating in it. this man sets the example. czcams.com/video/JxHE4KrLvj0/video.html I can't listen to this, I don't know how you people can even talk about what you have done. This has nothing to do with Irina Kolpakova. Why do you not post it where it's relevant?
I wanna dance for them.
