Oh but it is selling! First half sales data show about 69,500 Tacomas have been sold and it led the mid sized truck segment. Now they will have the Trailhunter and Pro plus the hybrids selling.

My wife was dead set on a new 4Runner and luckily, the dealership had a 2019 TRD that caught her eye.

Toyota lost my business after 26 years owning Toyota trucks and cars
Most of NorCal dealership added mark ups on all Toyota cars and trucks
I got my first Honda suv with no mark up under 30k out the door
    Go Honda

I bought a 2023 Gladiator Willys when they had the big end of year sale and rebates... $17k off MSRP made it cheaper than the cheapest Tacomas. VERY happy with it.

Back in 2021 (April) I was restricted to the mid-size "serious 4x4/Top Dog/off-road-focused" truck segment (needed the towing the same "specs" in SUV form like a Jeep Wrangler couldn't provide (3500lbs was next to useless for my needs). Ended up getting a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon ($50,263), which was ~$4500 under MSRP as optioned. No Stealership ADMs or "Market Adjustment" price-gouging back then.
Nothing Toyota/Ford/Nissan/GMC was on my Short List, only the Chevy Colorado ZR2 (unavailable then due to the chip-shortage) and the Gladiator Rubicon -- PLENTY available om Jeep dealer lots whereas Chevy lots were pretty bare of almsot any size-segment trucks.
Happy with my choice then and still am.
If I were buying TODAY, I'd still be restricted to the mid-size "serious 4x4" truck segment (a gas V6 is fine, don't need/want a turbo 4 or V8), and would go Gladiator (Rubicon) again. However, given the still-insane auto market nowadays (pricing mainly!) I'll probably be keeping my 2021 for quite some time. ;-)

Price and interest rates are the killer. Bought a used, well equipped (leather, large screen, premium radio, off-road and towing package etc.) full size truck with a V8 and 35,000 miles on it late last year for right at $40k. The value just isn't there to buy a Tacoma for more money.

    Missing the V6 already?
I'm sure the Tundra owners are missing their V8!
Hell I missed the 4 liter V6 from the older Tacomas. At least it stayed around in the 5 Gen 4Runners until 2024.
Toyota Failed us with their drive train changes! IMHO

Pfffh they will still sell. Trucks are the new sedan, and autmakers are making their margins off of these vehicles.
