I took my speed switch from my Dremel 300 apart, cleaned it, adjusted the contacts & put it back together.

This video did not show the procedure of locating the fault. How can a person order expensive speed controller before making sure, exactly only the controller is defective? Mostly the potentiometer variable controller can be worn out, sticky, or may be interconnecting wires are loose. Step by step for finding is needed. Also it is essential to show individual components- field welding, armature, 3 wired - red, black blue wires coming out of the speed controller, on/off switch & power wire testing precedure. Also when these components test fails, how to easily clean, adjust and restore the component, please make another video with these details.

Decent video but you might want to at least SPECIFY that this is for the 4000 model of Dremel rotary tool. There are many different models of Dremel rotary tools.

Before ordering any parts open up your unit and look inside. Like St8kout said below, mine had black wire disconnected from the harness. With that my unit was running at full speed without ability to adjust it, but also the torque was noticeably below normal so I could easily stop the spindle with my fingers. My unit was 7 years old at the time with light crafts usage. That wire probably loosened up and fell out of the harness due to vibration.

MIne stopped working and after opening, the Black field wire simple detached from the coil. I guess they didn't seat it in firmly at the factory for it to simply fall out. It had stopped working a year ago and I realized there's probably a youtube repair video.

I’m looking at my Dremel 4000 and had it apart all connections are good no broken wires. I had no pre warning signs like smoke, sounds or vibrations, nor anything else. Some sites say the most common problem is the carbon brushes and number 2 the electronic speed switch. Help what should I do.

Hi Carlos. The carbon brushes could certainly be the issue. If you notice that your brushes are worn down, they might need to be replaced. They are one of the most commonly replaced multi-tool parts.

There's a fault in your video when you first start to separate the halfs, the blue shaft-lock button and spring will pop out if you don't prevent it from flying across the room. Also there is no need to remove the collet and nut.

This tiny part is half the damn price of the actual machine and probably costs pennies to make. But above all, why is this such a common issue with Dremels? What a bloody joke of a product; will just buy an alternative brand instead.

I dislike how these videos say repair, but all the repairs are simply replacing parts. More diagnosis of the failed parts and/or attempts to repair these parts instead of replacing them would be of interest if you ever get the chance.....
