- I recently installed a pulley system to raise and lower my trolling motor on my Ascend 128T fishing kayak and I LOVE it!!! I think you will too when you see how easy it is to install. This is by far one of the most useful mods that I've installed on my kayak. Check it out!!

Love the lift lock release setup. Clever!
Thanks for your video it helped me out a lot. I was working on trying to figure out how I could raise my trolling motor on my kayak and the video was a big help. Thanks again
ahoy mate. attaching the cable to the bottom of the motor and having that pulley right at the top was a game changer!!! its so easy to pull up it motor now. before I had the cable attached right at the top of the motor and was pulling down to a pulley on the boat. it was so hard to lift!! thanks for that idea!!! drinks are on you!!!
Absolute life saver.... last part of my mod i was struggling with TY!!!
Thanks. Works, itâs simple and cheap.
Thanks for the helpful info. A fairly simple and inexpensive fix to a complicated problem.
Thank you for taking the time to show others how its done. I for one really appreciate it.
Hey Kelly⊠Thanks for the kind words brother, and thank you for watching!
DUDE, this cheat really helped me! I was frustrated on this part of my build out and your advice was a game changer. THANK YOU!
Not sure how I missed your comment but thanks so much for the kind words. Iâm really glad the content was helpful. I really appreciate you taking the time to watchđ€đ»
My buddy and I just started upgrading our Yaks. So glad I found your channel! Going to do something very similar. BTW great videos with those cats!
Good luck with your kayaks⊠Iâm glad you found my channel 2, thanks for watching!
Ah you just helped me!! You leave it unlocked then lock it with the chord. Working on the wife's trolling motor.
Good idea Brian, you done great job, thanks for sharing
Thanks Bobby appreciate you watching bro!
Pretty darn genius! Great video mr Brian!
Thx Robbyđđ»
That's a pretty slick set up. Great job.
Thanks brother! i appreciate that. A lot of trial and error!!!
Ingenius method!!!!! Going to copy you Bro. Thanks for the share. Liked and subbed
Impressive ingenuity!
I appreciate that man⊠And I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
This is a great video! Thank you! I also just subscribed. I just got a Bonifide SS 127. I plan on doing exactly this. đđ»đŁđŁ
Great Job! Thank You!
Thank you!!! Very smart!!
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing
My pleasure!
Subbed. Thanks for the idea.
Iâm doing the same only thing is Iâm putting a 1 x4 in. Aluminum plate inside the plastic parts on each side where the locking notching holes are. Then do the same thing youâve done. With my bungee or springs. I like your thinking
Nice, Happy Fishing !!!!
Thanks man! And thank you for taking the time to watch!
Great video thank you
Plain and simple, good deal
Thanks again!
da Vinci would be proud !!!
awesome stuff bro !!!
Thanks Tim!
This is so cool đ bro right on
Very cool kayak mod! I enjoyed watching your live stream today. đ„ have a great weekend! *Lacy
Thx Lacy!!! Thanks for taking the time to watch!!!!
Great idea đĄ
Thanks man it sure has made my life easier⊠I appreciate you watching brother!
You single handily solved my issue with wanting to use reverse but that little lever stays shut so it moves freely I will definitely be adding that curved bracket and ties to mine so I can finally use reverse!
Nice video. I came up with a simple way that doesn't require any modifications to the locking mechanism. Just had to drill a hole through the lever and used a pulley I had purchased from home depot :)
Great idea man! I thought of the same thing I was trying to avoid drilling it, but I think thatâs gonna be the best way to go in the long run because there is so much tension when using the bungee that I donât think the glue is going to hold overtime. Itâs worked so far, but I think your idea would be a better long-term solution. Thanks!
Any chance you have a photo of what you did?
Iâm actually working on a video right now that makes a way for you to raise and lower it without using the release tab. I wish I had thought of it earlier but I really didnât have to alter much at all and it works like a champ. Iâve been using this for six months now and itâs amazing!!
@@justinmayer9973 I have a video up on my page. Check it out and see if it'll work for you.
Hey! Your videos helped me to get on the Catawba! Iâm going catfishing tomorrow 1/29! Iâm gonna try to hit some 50 pounders.
Cool!!! Are you kayak fishing or bank fishing? Thx for watching!!!!
I was bank fishing, but im going to kayak fish next time, and bring more bait!
Your day job must be an engineer. Thatâs pretty cool.
Thx Jobuck!!! It gets the job done... Iâm actually an audio engineer by day but I love tinkering..đThanks for watching!!!
I also had to add a bushing to get it away from what locks it, the thumb screw
Great video. My kayak is setup to pull the motor straight up with a rope behind the seat. Maybe a weight lifter would make that work but the weight of is way too much for me. So I want to redo it using your idea, but do you transport your kayak with the motor on it? Removing it for transport doesnât look like an option.
Love this set up. I need help doing this with the Watersnake t24. If you look at it, it has a straight push pin for the tilt lock. Give me ideas on how to keep it unlocked. Thanks in advance. I dont know how to take that pin out.
I used a bungee cord for locking the shaft of the motor in place too, instead of tying it I used heavy duty zip ties. I started loose and worked my way up to the right spot. Todd Ferrante on CZcams has a different way of doing this
I'm going to find a way to have that lift cable also release the stop on the pivot. So that way when I pull the cord to lift the trolling motor, I also release the lock tab at the same time. There's got to be a way to do it.
Now we can make a video of us setting my yak up lol đ
Maybe! Let me know when youâre ready so we can plan your buildđđ»
Great content! 2 questions, is it better to keep the motor unlocked instead of locked in case you bump something? That way nothing is damaged or thereâs less damage then if it is locked down. Also do you have to register/title the boat now that itâs no longer paddle/man powered? I have a motor on mine and have been trying to figure out the regulations. Canât wait to see you out there and take a closer look at your yak!
Great questions. For your first question, yes keep it unlocked most of the time. I only lock mine when I am floating down a river and trying to slow myself down to fish certain parts of the river. For your second question yes you do have to register the boat if you put a trolling motor on it, not the Motor, just the boat. In South Carolina itâs only like $20. I called DNR in my state to confirm the regulations. I would encourage you to do the same just to be sure. I have a lot of fishing videos with me using Trolling Motor and itâs awesome, take some time to check them out. Thank you for watching!
Niceđ
Tq for this video..đđđâ
Hey thanks man⊠Stay tuned because I have an improved version of this that is much easier and efficient! Iâll be dropping a video in a couple weeks on itđ€đ»
@@FlintHillCatfishing thank youđđâ
Heardđ«Ą Thank you very much Bro đ€đ€
Do you have inside hull access where the cam cleat is installed? If not, how did you install the cam cleat? Trying to put one on mine but having trouble as I do not have inside hull access at the place it needs to go. Thinking of trying toggle bolts.
great idea, but isn't there an electric winch to raise the trolling motor and lower it and lock it down?
Hey flint. I swear I found a video of yours where you added foam, to your kayak. But I can't find it now. Just wondering how your still liking it? How's it holding up? I hear bad things about it. I'm thinking it can't be that bad. I think it be great. Anyway any/all info on the foam would be awesome. Got a link to that video also?
Hello⊠how you wired the trolling motor.
If you keep your tm unlocked, wont it kick up when in reverse hi?
Pretty cool idea, though I don't have a kayak, it never hurts to learn things before you need them rather than wishing you had learned something.
Thatâs the truth Georgia! Thanks for taking the time to watch brotherđ€đ»
Where in the Flinthills are you at? I am in southeast area. Good video. Thanks
Rock hill brotherđđ»
Hey I can't find your speed control connection...great idea to fix that problem for emergency pull up
Hey Dan thanks so much for watching brother⊠I have another video that talks about the trolling motor install in detail and you can find a link in the description that will take you to my speed controlđđ» let me know if you have any problems or canât find it.
Thanks for your Nice step by step instructional video. I have a question how do you manage the weed when you on the water, because now the motor is out of your reach. iâll appreciate your reply.
Not sure I understand your questions LOL⊠Always hid my weed when I was youngerđ.
lol
So, you donât get any weed/grass in your motor ?
@@RachiOrion I got you now⊠Fortunately I donât have to deal with a lot of grass/weeds where Iâm at so I havenât had to deal with that problem. That is a good question though but I donât really have an answer. Sorry I couldnât be more help on that one. However, Iâm coming out with a new video on a new and improved way to raise the motor. It is very similar to what Iâm doing now but it raises the motor straight up and down rather than swinging it out and swinging it back down if that makes sense Iâll have it out soon
@@FlintHillCatfishing thanks for your honest answer. I didn't tested my one yet. It was in my mind that's why iâd asked you because your video helped me a lot to put my motor on. Iâd install an 8â actuator to lift it.
So I have my trolling motor on the side of my yak would you recommend cutting off the top and doing this??? How long does it take to put this stuff together
With the way that I fish, having the trolling motor beside me really gets in my way. Itâs not a super quick job, but it is well worth the time invested in my opinion. If you havenât seen the video on my channel of my trolling motor install, go check it out and It will answer a lot of questions for you. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. This is the best mod Iâve ever done to my kayak, it opened up so many different ways to fish that I havenât been able to do previously simply by paddling. Also, I have it set up with a foot pedal steering system so that I am hands-free. Hereâs the link to the videoâŠ
czcams.com/video/SjlvGDHUs6A/video.html
Raise your steering cables and youâll be able to lift the motor with just your feet. Or, combine the unlocking cable and the lifting cable into one.
What about the motor speed
Ok I suck at explaining my 1 x 4 in x 3/16 plate is on the part that holds the shaft
Ralph⊠You had me cracking up reading all of your repliesđđđI like your idea for the locking mechanism⊠We do think alike a bitđđ» I really appreciate you watchingđđ»
Kayak on steroids!! Thats one bad to the bone Kayak!
Thx David!!
How much would it cost to get the bracket? I need one.
Iâm not really sure Matthew⊠It was a piece of stainless steel that One of my friends had in their shop so we fabricated it to work. I would say stepping out on a limb⊠That if you went to a machine shop and had them fabricate it it would probably cost $50-$100 stainless steel
đđđ
Never mind I spoke to soon
Nice bubba
Gorilla glue didn't work for me. But, mine was clear, so I may have used the wrong kind
Dang Steve⊠I shouldâve said this in the video but I didnât think about it.... when I use the gorilla glue tape, I take a heat gun on low heat and just heat The object up just a tad that I am putting on the kayak, but I do it while The object is still in my hand. The heat causes the tape to get a little softer and the tape get softer so adheres really well but is still removable. I also heat the surface of the Kia where Iâm gonna mount it just a touch just to get warm. I hope your product works out feel free to reach out to me if you have any more questions and Iâll try to help
@@FlintHillCatfishing would the apoxy work ok too? Not sure I've seen the tape, but I'll try heating it up once I find some if my apoxy doesn't work.
@@Van50van iâm not sure what kind of epoxy youâre referring to, but I probably wouldnât use any kind of liquid glue or epoxy on the surface of my kayak. That would make it pretty ugly if it dried and had to take it back off. But I may not be understanding what you were talking about.
One other thing that I have done before that does not include the gorilla glue tape......I have used plain old duct tape to secure whatever I was positioning on the kayak and it works Just fine. I only used the gorilla tape because I had some at the house. I tried it and it works fine. I just really like to do a non-permanent dry fit to all my accessories before I drill holes and bolt them down to the kayak. Thanks for watching man!!!
Sorry a 2 in bushing
