- This Kona hardtail mountain bike came with a few serious issues, but we bought it for a steal. If we can fix the brakes and the paint issues it has tons of potential. Can we sell it? Can we make a profit? Find out today on Flip Bike.

Hey brother, you should have a way for viewer's to send you components we have removed and could contribute to your parts bin. I have like 6 shocks, breaks, rotors, seat posts, derailleurs, and other relatively high end components laying around.
great idea! We NEED to boost this up so Seth can see it.
Edit: GUYS! WE'RE DOING IT! 110 likes and growing fast!
Edit 2.0: HE SAW IT GUYS
Edit 3.0: he didn't really like the idea much. . .

Lmao âYou hear that? Neither do I.â Sethâs a legitimately funny dude.
yeah top notch comedy!!!!!
I have an idea to take this series to the next level! Instead of just doing one off flips, you should start with $500 or something and try to flip your way to buying an eBike! Each time you sell a bike, that is then your budget to get the next bike and keep reinvesting your profits until you can get the dream bike.
Great idea hope he sees it
How about zero bucks
I think this is a great idea, also if he takes the idea from another commenter of accepting spare parts donations from fans of the channel, he can maybe do a giveaway if he would prefer to give back to the community.
I like the series the way it is. It makes a better connection with his audience that actually wants to start doing this, without breaking the budget.
This is actually how I got my yeti SB66
Hey Seth, when you go over your cost breakdown at the end, can you also include the number of hours that you put in? I think your viewers would be just as interested with that information.
I second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth that...because I've got 9 lives (I'm a cat).
Not a bad idea, but - oh boy - this is where flipping bikes could easily start to appear really not so profitable, especially for folks with a less legit shop setup to streamline the work. I've "made money" flipping a few bikes, but with the time I put it's only justifiable if you enjoy the time spent (which of course I do) - basically view it as a hobby that makes some money/supports itself and you can't lose.
@@chrislukes9037 i'll guess 10 hours total, including drive time and marketing. absolutely have to be realistic here.
@@chrislukes9037 In the states I've made money after riding a bike for a year and putting nothing into it lol. in Europe people aren't making mistakes selling shit too cheap. much harder.

They actually are fun to watch. A nice breath of fresh air!
Absolutely agreed
I don't know who your friend with automotive paint background is, but they 100% saved this flip! That satin paint job looks phenomenal. The bike almost looks modern enough to be on sale today. Someone is going to love this thing!
Hey Seth! WD-40 usually works pretty well to take tar and other grime off. I used to work at a bicycle shop and that's what we used.
That stuff is great for adhesive residue and kitchen grease, too. Used it to clean the fans in a range hood once and it blazes through gunk.
Yep WD will take off
Man that Kona is a tank. You should have two criteria for your flips: no bikes with chrome fork stanchions, and has to be a niner. No 26s unless itâs a DH. I hope someday I see you fix a bike thatâs actually worth fixing.
thinner for oil and bitum based paint, or petrol clean very easy
If WD doesn't work then Gasoline will take anything off.
Seth went from "so we got these nice vitoria tires layin around" to "im going to reuse these grips" thats when you start making good profit. keep it up man !

This is your most brilliant series yet. Motivating a whole generation to tinker with bikes. Thatâs how I grew up and itâs served me well.
Love this series. I love seeing work done on bikes. It's what got me started watching Seth's bike hacks back when I was upgrading my big box mongoose and ultimately bought a frame only trek and moved all my upgraded parts and some more new parts over to it
The only issue I have with this series is that it desperately makes me wish I had a workspace that I could use to fix up my bikes but my apartment only has enough for bare minimum. Awesome series!!
Buy a stand alone bike stand for around ÂŁ50 and a very cheap table cloth for around ÂŁ5. Spend a little money on tools or just borrow some from a friend and you have a space that you can work on bikes!! I have built a custom bike in my bedroom with virtually the same stuff, and if you check out Seth's earlier videos, you will notice just how small his area for working on bikes is!
@@louisbryant2302 did you just say âlittle bit of moneyâ and âtoolsâ in the same sentence?
@@user-ln8ko7df7p yesđ a multi tool only costs like ÂŁ15 for a somewhat decent one, and a small pump costs around the same. Spoons are really tire levers in disguise! You can find a lot of tools for dirt cheap at charity or antique shops which will do the job. Or chances are if you have ever put together some furniture, you will have the Allen keys which come with it! The bare minimum will do for bikes, and tbh you dont really need all the high end tools unless you are working on bikes all day every day!
Might also check out if there are any bike co-ops around. We have some good options in Seattle that are free or super low cost and have great people there to help out.
@@louisbryant2302 my issue is painting the bike and washing it :(
I love the clip in Seth's driveway where he acted out picking up his new bike

Literally my favorite videos to watch. I love seeing something used brought back to life for someone else to enjoy. You are legit my favorite subscribe, buddy!
That bike came up really nice.
Iâve started fixing up a bike for myself and getting some great tips from your flip series.
Now Iâm going through your old videos to try and find âhow to Cables and hydrolic brakesâ .
Thanks for your entertaining and educational content, great work.
Would be interesting to see "time spent" next to the costs next time, bike looked great at the end :)
Yeah the bike looks amazing and he clearly did an awesome job especially since heâs making his real money off of the CZcams ad revenue and not the flip itself but to make the flip viable as an actual business youâd need to do 2-3 of these every day.
Let's say this took 8 hours over 2 days to get done. If you price yourself at $18/hr, which is kind of a sustainable income in most of the USA, you will have just broken even.
Time spent can be difficult to measure when you're also shooting a CZcams video
@@heathlouis4529 agree! But even an approximation would be interesting :)

love this series! Giving my great ideas on affordable upgrades for hardtail.
I seem to have subscribed to this channel totally by accident, didn't even know I'd done it until I started to get notifications about new videos đł
Glad I did. Seems like such a genuine guy with a passion for what he's doing. It's always great to find these types of channels, they're much better than the more "official" types that take themselves too seriously.
Such a good sense of humour too đ đ
When he said $450 I was genuinely shocked, with a the frame cleaned up like that and shiny parts I think he could easily have asked $600 and sold for ~$550.
That bike would've definitely sold for 600. There's no competition for a bike like this. He should seriously market these bikes as refurbished so they would gain more interest.
I flip bikes. $750 asking price all day on that bike
The used market in North Carolina has kinda off cooled off, I think your right at about the 500-550 mark any more and I think it would take a long time to get rid of it
I donât work on bikes and I can tell you he is not marking these up enough to make a profit profit. Heâs making bank off of the videos though.
Iâd buy that bike for 600 in a heartbeat ngl thatâs really cheap for the market lol
I know you live in the US, but here where I live that bike wouldâve been selling for $800+ after all those upgrades
Yep I live in the USA and would jump on any bike he sales. Very under priced even here.
I think Seth is so kind he just wants to give a sweet deal.
Is that Switzerland or Norway you're from? In most Europe a hardtail with a coil fork can cost that much only if it has old new stock XT or XTR kit
@@feedbackzaloop No I'm in Canada. But similarly bikes here seem to be expensive

Seriously one of my favorite series on YT. Period.
Great series Set! Love the "bike flipping" idea!
On the result of your work: please do make it more realistic! The casette and derailer from the last 2 videos are way above the value your list them for! If you can show me a 10s cassette, chain and derailer for 35 USD, send me couple of those please! Also, please list the hours of work you have spent on the repairs. Market value for components+ hours of work as cost estimate would make the whole series even more enjoyable!
Looking forward for the next episode! Great job again!
My guess is: he already has them laying around. So this isn't what the cost of that part is in a shop, it's about the value of that specific part for him. And he still gets to keep the old part, that might get used in a way older bike somewhere down the road?
The parts he put on are way undervalued and not even to mention the time ... good luck finding any of those parts for what he said. Heâs basically working practically for free if he didnât monetize the video.
Yeah the hours of work makes this completely pointless.
@@turkeyphant I imagine it's fun for some people. I might find it fun if I knew what I was doing.

Does anyone else get jealous of the bikes Seth makes, I really want him to work on mine!
Me too
I'm only jelouse of his knowledge.
I'm jealous of the cheap bikes he finds to fix up. Getting that bike for $200 is crazy
Need to add in the most valuable commodity to the cost calculation: Time.
If you enjoy the process he went through its practically another hobby
a pluber unclokgs someone toilet takes 1 hour of his life allmost no tools or equipment and will allways charge you more than 250 dollars if its wasnt for the youtube money this guy would pretty much make no money
@@MrRafagigapr if you watch "this guy" 's channel, you'll know that he pretty much likes messing with bikes. its a hobby, not a job. I've never met someone that said unclogging toilets is their hobby
This bike looks really good. I'm glad you kept the original colours and paint and just clearcoated it. The black pedals are also nice. It's a bike that doesn't scream "look at me". I'm sure the new owner will be quite happy. Got me thinking about a second hand Kona hardtail myself now!
Great series! The value of the used pieces should be adjusted to a ânew price on the current marketâ so all of us with out spare parts can see the real cost or upgrading our used bikes into solid rides.
Not sure though, you can wait for used parts but it could take a while. Maybe he should do two lists, one with his cots and maybe one with brand new. But it doesnât make sense to do brand new list, when your on a budget.
Ya he puts like 1000 bucks worth of parts on them
Yes, flip bike is back! I might try this myself.

Best one so far in the series, very much feels more ârealâ build.
Having done something similar back her in UK during lockdown and restrictions.
For me it was about saving many bikes from being trash, and giving people something they could jump on and ride.
Yes! I love this series so much.
Just bought myself an MTB. So video like this really exposes me on how to maintain and prepare me for future upgrades. Thx man.
Man seeing this series I realize how lucky I have been with my patience and watching Marketplace. Picked up a 2011 Giant Rapid 3 for $150 that was very well loved, my local bike shop said I stole it after the inspection it only needed a new chain and nothing else! My newest one is a Motobecane Fantom Trail DS full suspension that was $320, it needed a new front tube and rim truing, as well as a standard tune up. So right about $400 total and the bike is ready for anything this amateur can throw at it.
Thank you for all the continued content, I started riding with friends about 20 months ago and your channel is one of 3 that really got me hyped for getting back into the sport.
Love these flip bike episodes, something about watching some random dude on the internet repair a bike is so relaxing... Keep doing what you do Seth!

It's so heartwarming when Oscar watching you fixing bikes...
Seth hasn't done a trail build in a long time- I think it's time for a few more of 'em!
True but these are also gold
Seths content is just gold
He said in one of the earlier flip videos that the weather was horrible and too wet for trail building.
If you watch his Instagram there was really bad flooding in his area and he decided to postpone his berm park video
We want to trail build too! The rain has been catastrophic here in the East, but things are looking better now.
I think you definitely undervalued the parts and time you put into this bike, but regardless this was one of my favorite builds yet
time is covered by what he will make from youtube once the video is uploaded ;)
@@brapamaldi7666 parts are ridiculously undervalued, giving them away at a loss essentially

Hey Seth, absolutely love your videos man. Just got my mtb a couple months ago and hit a few trails since then. Iâm realizing the bike isnât exactly as Iâd like but I donât have the bike knowledge to know how to tune everything to my liking. I was curious if you had any videos about tuning the more tedious parts. If not, maybe you could do a video about that in the future. Again, really love the videos and I give full credit to you for my new obsession. Thanks man!
Amazing video. I love this series Seth, can't wait for the next one!!!
Kevin always being an MVP, love him
With the way this series is going, will you ever run out of spare stuff, for example rear cassetts
he's eventually gonna run out of 1x chainrings cause he's never gonna let a bike leave his place with a 3x
Oooh am I allowed to call 3x/2x 11-28/32 cassettes obsolete, at least for mtb?
If so heâs just collecting a box of junk.
Or mtb art hopefully!
Yes, this is why I think his cost are on the low end. He won't be putting a 3x on any bike so unless he sells it separately, it holds no value. So the price of the parts is actually higher
Absolutely love this series it honestly lets me learn so much more about good bikes parts to put on my own bike
The quality of these videos is definitely worth the wait.
I'd love to see "time spent" in your valuations. I know you make money on the video aspect, but the average home mechanic would not. How many hours were spent?
Me too. Just scraping tar could be hours..
I've tried this myself and flipping bikes does work good. The most money I made on 1 bike was 450 euros. After a few tries you get a pretty good eye for it and for the price. I believe Seth could've sold it for 500-600 bucks.
I really appreciate these types of videos. I used to mountain bike when I was a kid. But I got out of it. I still own my 06/07 Trek Fuel 70. Its a medium frame. I'm guessing we bought it while I was still expected to grow... turns out, my body decided 5'4 was the best height and I should be on a small frame. I'm slowly getting back into the game. Seeing 1. the prices of these new bikes, and 2. not knowing if I'm really going to go hardcore into this sport again, I appreciate the fact that you are showing the audience that you don't have to have the top of the line equipment to get rolling. Eventually, I'd like to get a bike that fits me better. But I'll ride this until I decide if upgrading is worth it. Thanks for sharing some inspiration!
I would say the time you put into the flip bike is priceless. I have never got a bicycle that is tuned up and ready to use.
It would be nice to see at the end when you go over the cost of everything if you also put how much time you invested into updating the bikes.
Great work Seth. I would appreciate a breakdown of labour hours committed to the project. So that we could see what you âhourly rateâ was while working on the project. Of course, you would ignore videography/interview time etc.
Probably the best series you have ever created good job very entertaining :)
